Update: More or Les Document Myth

| August 9, 2019

There is more to come on this story.  To recap, Les Brown’s official military records do not match his claims of retiring after 20 years as a MSG (E-8), Special Forces, Ranger, Desert Storm veteran, Master Parachutist and in federal violation of the Stolen Valor Act of 2013 – wearing a Combat Infantryman’s Badge (CIB).  At first, Les Brown claimed it was just on a vest and floated a theory that his organization had a special arrangement with itself and they can wear unearned medals and rank.  Then, several pictures were produced of Les also wearing unearned rank, a Ranger tab, Master Parachutists badge and a Combat Infantryman Badges (DIB) sewn on a camouflage uniform that he wore to parades and to speak in front of school children.

We’ve been talking to people in Elko Nevada and we’ve got it from a reliable source that Les Brown claims he has the appropriate documents to back up his claims.  Although we look forward to seeing this documentation, we would like to point out that anyone could have obtained concrete proof by now directly from the National Personnel Records Center and saw firsthand what we have been saying all along.  We have merely been pointing out what those records state – along with several refiled FOIA requests to ensure there was no mistake.

This same principle goes for the Elko Daily Free Press as well.  They promoted Les Brown as some kind of home town hero with their articles about him as an inspiration.  After Brown was exposed, they doubled down and did a softball article that allowed Les to get out his side of the story.  They could have just as easily obtained Brown’s official records and verified for themselves.  It would have only taken a day or so. Instead, they spun some kind of weird ‘us’ against ‘Les’ scenario, probably to deflect from their poor journalism and lack of research skills.  They called us, but no sooner than they got a name, they hung up – probably so they can claim “they reached out to us.”  That is not journalism.  The fine folks in Elko Nevada should see the Elko Daily Free Press for what it is, in my strong opinion – simply a social media blog printed on newspaper and passed off as journalism.

Any veteran that refuses to look at the hard evidence and defend Les Brown has turned their back on the honor that they once held dear.  Les Brown may flash you something that looks official in an effort to counter claims made against him but he does not want this documentation to be reproduced and go out beyond a tight circle. If there is a mismatch between what he is showing you and what is officially on file at the NPRC, somebody is not going to look good.

The poker game’s over Les – time to show your hand.  You can only bluff for so long.  Put up or shut up.

Can Les Brown single-handedly become “The Brown Stain” on Elko, Nevada?  He’s making good progress but he is also being helped by people willing to either look the other way or participate in the coverup.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of our remorseless ninjas has found some more interesting facts for Brown (stain) to ponder.
Found a 1980 newspaper article that announced Les’ wedding to his first wife in Placerville, CA. In the article, he was identified as an Army Soldier….and that he and his first wife were going to live in Tacoma, Washington.
Tacoma, Washington is the home of Fort Lewis, also home of the 2nd Battalion, 75th RANGER Regiment
During the early 1980s timeframe when Les was stationed there, the 2nd BN, 75th RANGER Regiment partook in OPERATION URGENT FURY (Grenada).
In the Army, when we are deployed for combat missions, on our RIGHT sleeve on our uniform we are entitled to wear a “Combat Patch” AKA the Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Wartime Service (SSI-FWS). Does not matter if you are a Ground Pounder or a Supply Guru…if one was in a Combat Theater of Operations, then one is entitled to wear the SSI of the unit he or she deployed with on their right sleeve.
Now, take a look at this picture of Les in 2012 wearing an SSI-FWS on his right sleeve-
brown scroll
Then compare it with a Silver Star Recipient who was with the 2nd BN 75th RANGERs for Grenada-
silver star Surprised Brown hasn’t claimed one or two of these as well.
I have also included the YOU TUBE Video about that Silver Star recipient as well as his synopsis from The Hall of Valor:
Les is wearing a Combat Patch insinuating that he was with the 75th RANGERS PHYSICALLY in Grenada.
Which explains why he wears the CIB. And the Parachute Badge. And the 75th RANGER on his vest as well as RANGER and SPECIAL Forces. Wonder if he was INITIALLY assigned to the 75th…but went to another unit when he picked up the Ammo Specialist MOS.
Again, there HAS TO BE a DD214 out there that is his FIRST DD214 that shows what he did from 1980-1984. The FOIA shows he was an Ammunition Specialist for 66 months, not Infantry/RANGER.
Ironically, he makes a BIG Deal about being a Desert Shield/Desert Storm Veteran, yet he wears the 2nd BN/75th RANGER Regiment Scroll as his “combat patch” on his right sleeve…but then again, he is NOT AUTHORIZED to wear his MP Unit that he was with in Germany during DS/DS since HE WAS NOT IN A COMBAT THEATER….So the plot thickens…HE WANTS TO BE A COMBAT VETERAN…
scroll
Is he using GRENADA as his way to be a member of that VFW 2350?
Trying to figure out IF he did deploy to Grenada as part of a support unit from FT Lewis…or if he WAS with the 75th…but as an Ammo Specialist and not a Grunt (which means NO CIB!!!)
Besides that, none of his records show he went to Airborne School or RANGER School, so am guessing that he EMBELLISHED his assignment at Fort Lewis…
Not ‘guessing,’ ninja. More facts for the people of Elko to ponder. Thanks for the hard research and theory. Seems laughing boy here can’t keep his campaigns straight.
Les keeps becoming MOORE.
thebesig
Les Brown is a phony war veteran, phony special forces, phony Ranger, a phony master sergeant, a phony military retiree, and a phony master parachutist. He got out as an E-4/Specialist.
If he is claiming to be one of the above, he is clearly lying. If this is consistent with the values shared by the Elko, Nevada community, the POW/MIA Elko Awareness Association, and other communities that Les Brown identifies with, they will disregard the facts presented on this website and insist that he is what he is lying to be.
If Les Brown’s lies and antics related to claiming to be above, are not consistent with their values, they will hold him accountable. Their actions will speak volumes.
Les could have ‘fessed’ up but instead crunched in the corner shivering hoping it would all pass.
Everyone either KNOWS or if have not examined everything SUSPECTS that his is lying.
This could have been over the minute it was put out there, but Les chose to cling to his lies and that’s why it became the circus it has become. He has nobody to blame but himself.
A great big and LOUD SAAAAAALLUUUUTE to the ninjas of MP and TAH for outing this piece of sh^t Lester Kent Brown (stain). Another hat tip and job well done to all of the loyal miscreant Delta Whiskies/Whiskettes who piled on the comment count, kept digging for more on Ol’ Les, banging away at the fakebook posts and ensuring his Google Fame.
Odd that his “Raising Awareness Organization” has mainly raised awareness of his sh^tbaggery. Any good work that he actually did for the POW/MIAs has been totally negated now. Is it me or does it seem lately that anyone who is in the business of “Raising Awareness” is actually raising their balance in their own pocket book?
A Terminal Lance Coolie
Oh, I’m sure this whole raising awareness thing is a scheme to make money.
All you have to do is make a crappy website, on a free webhost, maybe get some overpriced custom t-shirts in an online shop, and BAM! Idiots pay you for it! You get to claim you’re “doing something”, they get to claim they’re “doing something”, and nothing useful is actually accomplished.
One hell of a scam, if you ask me.
And, if you’re one Lester Kent Brown, you get to discover what happens when you lie about your service to promote said scam.
Charles
There is a particularly insidious form of non-profit the IRS refers to as “an incorporated hobby.” It goes something like this: Assume I really like to shoot. Pistols, rifles, shotguns. But it is an expensive hobby, what with targets, ammunition, spotting scopes, maintenance, range fees, etc. So I start up a non-profit: “Shooting for Veterans.” I describe the mission to “help veterans readapt to civilian life by structured use of firearms.” Fair enough. Then, once I have my non-profit tax exempt number, I solicit contributions, I buy guns, ammo, targets, cleaning supplies, all tax free. I get donations, maybe at a chili supper or a booth at the county fair (or hot air balloon races). Pretty soon my store room is full of weapons, ammunition, tools, spotting scopes … and I’m shooting every weekend for free. Of course, I make sure and invite another veteran along from time to time, making sure he is photographed, preferably with a big American flag in the background. We can have a big awards banquet with a steak and lobster dinner, paid for by the non-profit. We can go on road trips to other ranges, with all expenses paid for my “Shooting for Veterans” organization. Better than me paying bills for myself. I can be the registered agent, president, range master, treasurer and secretary. As long as the budget is under $50,000 my only report is a postcard once a year to the IRS. No one is looking to see if I am shooting with or for veterans, or just out having a good ‘ole time on the range with no money out of my own pocket. An incorporated, tax free hobby. Now assume my interest isn’t into shooting. Suppose I belong to a Harley Davidson motorcycle club. But those hogs are expensive, with fuel, oil, spare parts, tires, chrome, the expenses of a road trip … oh say … to Washington, DC or Pocatello, Idaho. Now I could personally pay for all that, or I could create an incorporated hobby and get most if not all of my biker expenses paid for by… Read more »
A Terminal Lance Coolie
Waitaminute…you mean to tell me I can get the gubmint and other people to subsidize my shooting habit? Damn. I’ve been doing this all wrong for the last decade or so! /s
This loophole is immense. Makes me wonder just how many of these small “awareness” outfits and hobby groups exploit this loophole to do the things they want for effectively free.
I bet the number is far higher than any of us would like.
It wouldn’t have something to do with a certain town name and awareness in the title, would it, Charles?
Morgan Blake
That is probably why he pulled his head into his shell and clammed up – it is his primary source of income.
He only makes $200/month as a bailiff. You can’t support yourself and your hobbies on that.
SGT Ted
I was in the same Bn and eventually the same unit as Les was in during my AGR career. I submitted a comment on the Elko web site. If they don’t publish it, here it is:
I served in the same Battalion as Les Brown concurrent with his service and later in the same Company, the 870th MP Co, where I had access to historical records of when Les served. I remember his name from old rosters. He was never a Master Sergeant and never served in combat in Desert Storm, much less as an infantryman. He served in Germany during Desert Storm when the 870th MP Co was activated and deployed there, which was totally honorable service. What is not honorable is his claims of rank, awards and service he never earned or performed. Les is lying to you. You need to do due diligence and request his service records from the National Archives. It will back up what I say..
sbalm
SGT Ted – thank you for coming forward. Your words carry a lot of weight. Hopefully, those still in doubt will consider what you say.
rgr769
Thanks, SGT Ted, your experience and comment here just confirms multiple comments, documents and newspaper reports that prove irrefutably that Lester Brown could never have served in the sandbox during Desert Storm, therefore his CIB claim is completely bogus. Moreover, his records from NPRC prove all his other claims are completely phony/fake/made-up.
SGT Ted
The reason his name stuck out to me is because we had two Les Browns in the unit. One was a SGT/E-5 who was a cool breeze kind of old school guy who was nick named ‘Downtown Brown”. He popped hot on a whiz quiz and got was close to ETS so he got a bar to re-enlistment. People actually liked Downtown Brown, unlike the other turd.
Thanks for the great info, SGT Ted!
Les Brown – Putting himself out there: The Documents
ninja
AW1Ed has provided an UPDATE to this post referencing Les Brown wearing the 2nd Battalion/75th RANGER Regiment Scroll as his “Combat Patch” AKA Shoulder Sleeve Insignia-Former Wartime Service(SSI-FWS) on the right side of his BDUs (see the picture that AW1Ed provided in this updated post).
Seems to me that Les could possibly be claiming to have been involved in OPERATION URGENT FURY in Grenada in 1983 since he was stationed at Fort Lewis during that timeframe.
Only Les knows the truth about his first tour on Active Duty…and so does his first and second wife.
😉🙄
Terry Sheehan
Good point, but…
The CIB should have carried over and would have been included on his later DD-214s. Nobody in their right mind would overlooked getting an award such as this.
The ex-wives should be easy enough to find and get to weigh in on this.
Also does not speak to the 20 year, retirement and MSG claims.
marinedad61
1983 Grenada Times Veteran. Honorable.
NO Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
1991 Desert Storm Times Veteran. Honorable.
NO Southwest Asia Campaign Medal,
NO Saudi Arabia Medal.
NO Kuwait Medal.
Conclusion – INELIGIBLE to join the VFW.
marinedad61
ALL US Army soldiers who went to Grenada in 1983 to participate in Operation Urgent Fury received the
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Les Brown’s 1992 US Army DD-214
for Operation Garden Plot (CONUS 9 days)
lists his 1991 Army Overseas Service Ribbon
for his service in Germany during DS/DS.
But, it does NOT list the
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal,
presumably for 1983 service in Grenada.
DD-214 FACT: Campaign and Overseas Service Medals, in fact ALL medals and ribbons, even from other military branches, are cumulatively documented on successive dated versions of Form DD-214.
(Personal Note for Comparison / Proof –
My 1991 US Army DD-214 for Desert Shield / Desert Storm includes ALL (6) of my US Air Force ribbons listed on my 1980’s US Air Force DD-214.)
Cumulative proof.
NO Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal =
NO BOOTS in or near Grenada, and
NO ELIGIBILITY to join VFW Post 2350
based on claimed Grenada service.
Mustang Major
This is a small point, but I call a preemptive BS on Les Brown if he falls back and claims that he was an ammo man in the 75th Rgr. Bn. I was an infantry battalion support platoon leader at one point in my career. (For non-infantry types, the support platoon is responsible for all rations, ammo, fuel and wheeled vehicle transport in an infantry battalion- at least when I held the position.) Ammo men in the support platoon at battalion level are 11Bs- infantry soldiers.
If Les Brown was an ammo man at Ft. Lewis, he probably assigned to a corps unit on the post. He may have been involved moving ammo out to a staging area at an airfield, but that may have been all. None of this would qualify him for a CIB or ranger combat patch.
And of course, none of this would explain his claim of 20 year’s service, Master Sergeant, Senior Parachutist or Master Parachutist.
Ret_25X
yes, ammo and other specialist supply MOS holders are never found below the Division Support level until the Army redesigned for the BCT concept.
We never had an ammo supply specialist in the infantry battalions I was in…
Or signal battalions
In fact, in almost 30 years I don’t think I ever met an ammo supply specialist….
I did meet many full of shit blowhards, though…
Claw
As an Infantry Bn/Bde S-4 NCO, I did actually meet with a couple of 55Bs, but it was at their work site, the Post ASP (Ammunitions Storage/Supply Point) prior to my outfit doing a live fire.
55B was one of those never seen, don’t know what they do MOSs, much like a Warrant Officer or the night baker in the mess hall./smile
PFM
Everything I’ve read about the 89 series MOS (other than EOD) and Warrants points to ASP and above level, not individual units. DA is apparently developing a new software package for ammo management that these guys will be using.
Mustang Major
Unrelated to Lester Brown but related to Elko Nevada and the Elko Daily News, I came across an obituary for a former Special Forces, Ranger, Sergeant First Class. Interesting.
https://elkodaily.com/lifestyles/announcements/obituaries/harvey-earl-blair/article_269427e0-d0d1-5fd1-a610-8d51a0bb3a4e.html
5th/77th FA
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems as if “fact check” for the Elko paper is right between “don’t care” and “why bother.” From the obit, “…deployed to Europe to fight in the Korean War.”
Is Elko downwind of the Nevada Nuke Test Sites?
rgr769
I think they are upwind, being in the northern half of the state, but maybe their principal water source has had lead leaching into it for many years from the nearby mines. Cuz they got some brain death going on with some of the populace.
Terry Sheehan
And the smartest ones work at the paper.
Comm Center Rat
The obituary was paid for and written by the deceased’s family member(s) so the newspaper is under no obligation to fact check. Anyone can be lauded as a military hero once the price of publication is paid.
5th/77th FA
Roger that CCR, I was just using my comment to tie into the total lack of fact checking they’ve done overall. Maybe it’s the historian in me being nit picky. One would think that a newspaper person, even in the obit section, would scratch their watch and wind their ass over a soldier fighting the Korean War from Europe.
My baby girl’s FIRST degree from the Dawg Pound in Athens GA, was in Journalism. The requirements for that BA was heavy on history classes. After a short stint of fighting against the Lame Stream Media to find decent work in the newspaper business, she went back and finished with a Masters in Education and is now a teacher. She used to bitch about co-workers who would not fact check basic historical things to make sure the story was at least half way straight.
Comm Center Rat
5/77 The obituary is preposterous and obviously written by someone without historical knowledge and a UGA education. Side note: I have a Yankee friend from NYC who earned his MPA degree at UGA in the late 1980s. I visited him and he gave me a tour of the beautiful campus capped by downing some libations in the quirky establishments of Athens.
I look forward to seeing the Dawgs teeing it up against Bama for the SEC championship.
Do love it when the Tide and the Dawgs beat the cold pea turkey out of the Cow College in ‘bama and the Klown College in SC.
Athens is a very beautiful and party hearty town. Was there every 4th Wednesday on business for almost twenty years. Kept a standing reservation at a locally owned motel. One of the few people that paid standard rates during home game times.
Mr. Blair was sent to Austria around November 1953 (after the Korean Conflict) with duty as part of USFA.
He probably was with the Headquarters Company, 4th Armored Cavalry in Austria as part of the Occupation Forces in Europe.
That unit was part of the US Constabulary that performed occupation duties in Allied-occupied Germany, West Berlin, and Austria, maintaining law and order and security.
Have personal doubts that Mr.Blair was Airborne or an Army RANGER. He could have been a Cook or an MP or Admin while stationed in Germany.
No telling what he told his family about his time in the US Army.
5th/77th FA
Thanks ninja. That’s about what I figured. And you’re correct, no telling what he told his family.
Apparently, the lie rocking is deep and strong in Elko. Maybe that’s how Ol’ Lester Kent Brown (stain) got away with his sh^tbaggery. “Hey, everybody does it, why not me?”
rgr769
Here is what Brown Stain Brown’s Personnel file docs show. This turd was stationed at Ft Lewis in 1980 where he attended a two week leadership course. That is where he was exposed to men serving in the 1st SFG (he has been photo’d wearing a 1st SFG flash on a green beret) and those serving in 2nd Bn/75th Inf. In 1981 he attended that ammo storage specialist school lasting five (5) weeks. In 1982 he was assigned to Johnston Island and spent some part of 1982 and 1983 there–likely as guess what?–his new MOS, ammo storage specialist. So how could he have been in the Grenada operation; he couldn’t. Plus, there is not a slot for an ammo storage specialist 55B in a Ranger battalion, especially one who is not airborne and can not jump with the battalion. Being a leg, this turd could never have been assigned to any SF group or any Ranger battalion. He is a valor thief, period.
26Limabeans
I spent two weeks at Ft Lewis on my way to Viet of the Nam. Had to get familiar with the M-16 because my only qual was with the M-14.
A few other crash courses I don’t remember but the one thing I do remember is that it did not
make me an Airborne Ranger. I had an NDSM when I arrived and that’s all I had when I left two weeks later. No wings, tabs, beret or other accutrements. Just a Spec 4 with an NDSM.
Nothing wrong with that and no need to embellish it.
Yeah, I graduated from “Jungle School”. Where’s my patch?
rgr769
The Jungle patch is readily available on the internet. I am surprised Lying Lester isn’t rocking one on the vest of many colors and fake patches. I was at Lewis for ROTC summer camp in 1967, I didn’t even get the NDSM and I was still just a cadet, but we learned some cool infantry stuff.
With their vests and lies, would Les and his boys be classified as “Leather Clad Rockers?” Quadrophenia
Morgan Blake
Les Brown – Which conflict were you in that earned you the CIB?
ninja
If Tom Wulf or VFW Post 2350 or Members of the POW/MIA Awareness Bike Club (Elko, NV) or Les’ Enablers are reading this, wonder if they have the guts to ask Lester Kent Brown about his Active Duty time at Fort Lewis, WA or better yet, ask him the same question Morgan Blake asked:
“Which conflict were you in that earned you the CIB?”
Other questions those folks can ask him (as others pointed out):
*What RANGER Class did you attend? Class Number? Class Date?
*When did you go to Airborne School and where and when did you make your jumps to qualify you for the Master Parachute Badge?
*How did you manage to rise up in Rank from an E4/SP4 to an E8/MSG in 8 years considering it took you 11 years to go from E1/PVT to E4/SP4? Were you a member of an unrecognized Militia from either NV, UT or ID to obtain “MSG”?
Does the Mayor of Elko, NV know about your claims? Is he supporting you?
Perhaps something not good happened to PFC Lester Kent Brown while he was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington in the early 1980s (he did not make E4 until 1989). He may be covering up something by his embellishments.
Bet his First (out of Three) Wife knows. She and Les were married in 1980. She divorced him LESS than two years later in Pierce County, Washington.
That is PUBLIC information.
For the sake of the Elko, NV POW/MIA Awareness Bike Club and your Family, it is time for you to come clean, Lester Kent Brown.
Morgan Blake
Granted, there are a bunch of questions that he could answer but won’t, so to avoid the “it’s classified” excuse or other various smokescreens, I’m thinking he should be able to answer an extremely simple question:
Les Brown – Which conflict were you in that earned you the CIB?
If people in an around Elko keep asking that, it should be telling… even if he avoids it.
I can’t think of one combat veteran that would avoid answering that question. There is no need to avoid it – not classified – and most all would readily volunteer the information with pride.
So Les, what’s the simple answer to this question?
Les Brown – Which conflict were you in that earned you the CIB?
ninja
For those who are not familiar with the US Army Combat Infantry Badge (CIB), i.e. criteria to be awarded that Badge:
Two Sources for the information. One source is from the US Army Human Resources Command (OFFICIAL)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combat_Infantryman_Badge
https://www.hrc.army.mil/content/Combat%20Infantry%20Badge%20CIB
Morgan Blake is correct. For all the bragging that Lester Kent Brown has done, he should have no problem identifying the Conflict he participated in to earn the CIB.
Additionally, those Veterans who are part of the Elko, Nevada POW/MIA Awareness Bike Club as well as the Elko Nevada newspaper should have no qualms asking Lester Kent Brown that question.
Unless they are afraid of the truth.
Do you think the CHAPLAIN of the Elko Nevada POW/MIA Awareness Bike Club is afraid of the Truth?
Inquiring minds want to know.
The Truth Is Out There.
Ret_25X
It is important to note that being an 11B and deployed to a combat zone does not automatically net you a CIB.
You must be assigned in an 11B billet in a BCT, which was, in fact, in combat with an armed enemy.
So being in 1/1 Infantry in Kuwait don’t get you a CIB even though Kuwait was part of the combat zone for years.
Being on the MNFI or USFI staff does not get you a CIB.
Being on a PRT or MTT does not get you a CIB.
Being in an infantry unit fighting as an infantryman is what gets you a CIB.
Being an MP in Germany or an ammo can stacker in Lewis get you nothing and you like it.
Everyone wants to be Infantry until its time to do Infantry stuff.
rgr769
Infantry can be fun in peace times, but not so much in those Vietnam (or other war) Times when there are bad guys out there trying to kill you.
And while you’re asking those questions of Les Brown, ask Ron “Vito” DaRonche (Les’s 2nd banana) how/where he earned the CIB that he wears.
Im not saying Vito is a phoney…but perhaps he is.
If “Vito” is not a phony and he legitimately earned the CIB, and legitimately “came home in ’71” from the only place that was handing out CIB’s at the time…how in the fuck can “Vito” tolerate Les Brown’s behavior which diminishes the value of the CIB for all those who earned it, including “Vito” (presumably).
On the other hand, maybe Ron “Vito” Daronche is a phony CIB wearing “combat veteran” as well. I don’t know.
Lester Kent Brown and His Supporters:
And WHY are you/him wearing the 2nd Battalion/75th RANGER Regiment Scroll on your/his right sleeve of your BDUs as your “Combat Patch” AKA Should Sleeve Insignia Former Wartime Service (SSI-FWS)?
For those unfamiliar with the SSI-FWS and the Criteria to include the Conflicts that qualify a Soldier to be awarded the Patch, here is the source referencing Army Regulation AR 670-1:
https://www.ar670.com/2018/12/21/shoulder-sleeve-insignia-former-wartime-service-ssi-fwts/
I believe Tom Wulf may have a SSI-FWS on his right sleeve. He should have no problem asking Lester Kent Brown that question, unless he is in denial or is afraid of the truth or losing face.
The Elko Nevada newspaper should have no problem asking Lester Kent Brown about his CIB or his Combat Patch unless they are also in denial or is afraid of the truth or losing face.
Lester Kent Brown’s situation kinda reminds me of certain members of a Political Party or News Medias who are still in denial about the Mueller Report.
I am thinking the battle of Johnston Island where he had to fight the barracks butt pirates nightly, since there was likely a shortage of females on the island back in 1982 and 1983. AW1Ed
rgr769
Your ninja needs to look at the fact that Les went to a five week school in 1981 that awarded him the 55B ammunition storage specialist MOS and was serving for over seven weeks on a remote Pacific island. And what was the principal activity at Johnston Island in 1982 and 1983? Hazardous ammunition storage, including chemical weapons. Anyone here really think the Army spent many thousands of dollars training Lester in this MOS and then sent him to the island for less than a regular PCS to that put him there for at least one or two years. Moreover, the NPRC photocopied the military education block from his Form 20. It lists 1983 as the year he completed a SCUBA course on Johnston’s Island. Some people keep ignoring the fact that one can’t be in two locations on the globe at the same time and that one cannot serve in a Ranger battalion or any airborne unit in a jump slot and not be airborne qualified.
It almost sounds like when young pregnant girls were “sent away” for a while only to return after missing a year of school.
Just so you all know:
Serenity K. Orr, the woman that wrote the first article for the Elko Daily Free Press where they published that Les Brown was a local inspiration and he retired from the Army after 20 years having achieved the rank of MSG…
… well, Serenity is the daughter of Lee “Innkeeper” Foster, the Chaplain of the POW*MIA Elko Awareness Association. Her maiden name was Serenity K Foster. As Gomer Pyle would say: “Surprise, surprise!”
Just wanted to make you all “aware” so that you have “awareness” of the connections with the Elko Daily Free Press and the POW*MIA Elko Awareness Association. Several PMs were sent to Ms. Orr about her fact-checking. She should have volunteered this information with full disclosure.
No wonder the Elko Daily Free Press’ reporting is weighted in favor of Les Brown and his Awareness Association. It also points to a plausible reason why they don’t want to get to the bottom of anything out there in Elko.
26Limabeans
Seems odd that Les never got to a combat zone with all those legit years. Probably could have if he truly wanted to. Unless (pun) he was not
wanted in that role for some reason.
Tracy Burns
It is my opinion that the criticism of the Elko Daily Free Press should go far beyond their lack of fact-checking. They should feel a responsibility to their community in light of Les Brown openly misrepresenting himself, not only around the local parades and military veteran functions but around school children.
In the Elko Daily Free Press’s rush to cover themselves due to their own inaccurate story about Brown being a local inspiration, they doubled-down and gave Les Brown an additional platform to spin his lies and cover up the truth.
Where is their responsibility to the residents of Elko, Carlin and Spring Creek? If I were parents of those children I would be livid. The newspaper is providing direct cover for a known fraud to dress up in his little clown suit and spin his wild tales of “combat” in front of unsuspecting and trusting children.
The people that work This Ain’t Hell (TAH) are trying to clean up a mess that the Elko Daily Free Press should be cleaning up themselves. After all, the newspaper people are the ones that promoted Les Brown as some kind of “hero.” In so doing, TAH is treated like some kind of vicious internet mob that is going after people for their vests. The fact is they are trying to do what the local newspaper should be doing – warning their community about a known fraud.
If the Elko Daily Free Press would take responsibility to clean up a mess of their own making as well as show some fortitude and responsibility to their own community, this would not have become the circus it has become.
The Elko Daily Free Press KNOWS that Les Brown is a shady character and lied. Why am I so sure of this? Just keep your eye on things – they will passively proclaim support but won’t dare publish anything to resurrect Les Brown’s image.
