bear cubs

By: Ryan Osborne
CASTLE PINES, Colo. – The mother bear found dead in Castle Pines this week was killed by a resident who had concerns about the bear trying to enter their home, a lawful reason for using lethal force, Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced in a news release Sunday.

Wildlife officers are still looking into the incident.

Another Castle Pines resident found the bear dead Thursday at the base of a tree , with two of her cubs waiting in the branches above her.

State law allows people to use lethal force against a bear if they feel threatened by the animal. Any killing in that situation must be reported to authorities within five days. The bear in Castle Pines was killed about 1 a.m. on Thursday, and the resident reported the death on Friday evening, officials said.

“This is an unfortunate occurrence, and you never want to hear of a sow getting killed and cubs being orphaned,” CPW Northeast Region Manager Mark Leslie said in a statement. “Review of the events in this case did not reveal any statutory violation with regards to the killing of the sow.”

Armed suspect fatally shot by Denver police after firing multiple rounds downtown
No community members, police injured in shooting

By: Stephanie Butzer
DENVER — Denver police shot an armed man after he allegedly opened fire a few blocks south of the Colorado State Capitol on Monday morning.

Around 7:10 a.m., community members called 911 to report that a person had fired multiple shots between the intersection of 8th Avenue and Lincoln Street and the intersection of 10th Avenue and Lincoln Street, said Denver Police Chief Paul Pazen.

He said police responded to the scene quickly and “resolved the situation.” The suspect died. Police confirmed he had been armed with a handgun.

No officers were injured, police said. Pazen thanked the community members who called 911.

“Any time you have an individual that is armed that is firing a weapon here in the city during rush-hour traffic, it’s a very dangerous situation,” he said.

Broward County Sheriff’s Department Loses Accreditation After Parkland Failures

by Dan Zimmerman
This is what happens when a law enforcement agency’s multiple failures to handle a situation according to well-developed, standard protocols results in the deaths of innocent students and teachers. From the AP: Florida’s largest sheriff’s office has lost its law enforcement accreditation after criticism over its handling of fatal shootings at a high school and an airport.

The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation voted 13-0 last week not to renew the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s accreditation. Commission members include law enforcement and other local officials from across Florida.

They cited the agency’s handling of last year’s Parkland shooting and a 2017 shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport as reasons for the decision.

Sheriff Gregory Tony says it’s disheartening for the agency’s 5,400 employees to lose their accreditation for the previous administration’s mistakes. BSO’s former sheriff, Scott Israel, was suspended by the governor earlier this year.

CFA Executive Director Lori Mizell says 166 agencies have the voluntary certification. An agency can keep operating without accreditation. Mizell says having accreditation means an agency meets more than 250 professional standards.

Broward County cops discredited. (Gigglesnorrrttt!)

My sympathies to with the bear family. I wasn’t there, but you would think that the homeowner coulda tried to scare the Mama Bear off instead of blowing her away and leaving the cubs orphaned. Bears dangerous to humans? More like humans are dangerous to bears. They are (bears), after all, FIRST cousins to a dog. #

Disclaimer: I have no problem with, and am a strong supporter of, hunting/harvesting all of God’s tasty critters, in season, for food.

The other CO story. No problem at all with this idiot doing his suicide by cop thing. Glad that no LEOs or innocents were harmed during his bout of stupidity. Darwin Rules!

Coward…err…Broward County SO. Again, sympathies to the majority of the fine officers who serve and protect the citizens. Wonder how many of the officers that went marching toward the sound of the guns thought about the chicken sh^t Sheriff or the chicken sh^t “School Resourse Officer” “Well we are seeing now how his policies aren’t working.” Wonder how many of the 250 standards they failed utterly on? We know of at least 2…The didn’t serve and they didn’t protect.

Ever faced a pissed off bear? It -might- run from the threat. a pissed off -mama- bear is more likely to go apeshit on you as run.

The smallest adult black bear is 100% lethal if it wants your ass.

Tragic, because the bear probably got aclimated to garbage, then smelled something better inside, and cubs gotta eat.

Just think…..if the Broward cowards had done their jobs properly at the Valentine’s Day shooting, not only would there have been less innocent lives lost, we wouldn’t be stuck with a Hogg who wants to be Boss.

And the former Sheriff has filed to run for Sheriff in 2020. I guess it is hard to give up a job where you get paid well for doing nothing.

Wow, a bunch of stuff in my backyard… Castle Pines is a rich, gated community, but it is in the woods, has lots of wildlife, including bears, mountain lions, and elk. It’s definitely possible that the bear could have presented a threat, though human stupidity is likely a factor, it being a sow with cubs.. The one factor that makes me wonder is if it happened in the middle of the night, why wait until the following evening to report it? just sounds a little suspicious..

Used to live in an area with lots of bears in NM, typically the folks who had issues with bears were also doing things like feeding them. I remember one lady who had moved there from CA, who wanted to pet a smallish 150 pounder because “he’s so CUTE”.

I really feel sorry for the poor bear, I really have my doubts that it was a danger to anyone? The idiots probably left out a big pan of dog food or some other enticement out that attracted this poor bear? I think the stupid home owner should be shot??

Mat Best has a new song I think you’ll all enjoy.

There is a tiny bit of language. I don’t think it’s bad or over the top, but it might not be fit for work.
