USAF Retired Combat Vet Harassed By Security Guard

| July 1, 2019

Justice

She’s black, she’s female, and she’s wearing a hoodie and the security guard refuses to show his ID, but wants to see hers.  I’d call the cops on HIM. The problem with security guards is that they forget that they are supposed to call the po-po re: suspicious characters. And why would this jerk not show her his ID, but demanded hers?

http://www.fox13news.com/news/local-news/security-guard-refuses-to-show-identification-as-he-follows-veteran-on-her-morning-walk

She is visibly upset by what happened, but instead of sniffling about it, she could do several things, among them:

  1. a) get a dog to accompany her on her morning promenades. I used to take my German Shepherd with me when I went out running after work at night in Chicago, 3 miles total. Did Piggy a lot of good and made me feel secure. No one is going to mess with your pooch. Having a 4-legger with you as a running mate tends to generate respect and create a distance. It also should indicate that you’re just out walkin’ the dog.
  2. b) find that old reflective PT belt or go buy one at a surplus store and wear that (or a couple of them), along with sweats/tees that say USAF/whatever Vet.
  3. c) drop the hoodie and wear something else on the head that reflects light, e.g. Military Veteran
  4. d) call 911, or offer to do so if the guy won’t leave you alone. Just do it. You have to be a bit bold without going overboard, and saying calmly, ‘Shall I call the police?’ is as good as anything else.

If I lived in Chicago now, I’d have two 4-leggers with me. As it is, if things get bad up here in my kingdom, I’m getting a dog, period. Well, maybe two, and call one of them Mai Gun and the other one Bullet. My two cats are more useless than sofa pillows.

“Combat PTSD”

I remember back to one very dark day in 2010 when the Sat TV went out AND the canteen was out of dark roast…..that was one bad Air Force day

She may have been the victim of sexual assault while deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. There are many trauma survivors who receive disability compensation for PTSD since 9/11.

MST is real unfortunately.
My focus is on the “Combat PTSD”.

Then she sure as hell should know better than to running around the streets by herself, unarmed, at 5:30 AM. No sympathy here.

Heads Up, Thumb. It looks like the mystery is solved.

Seems Turd Bolling and The Ambassador Worldwide Protection Agency (both nationally and internationally) have pulled up stakes from Memphis and moved to Gibsonton, Floriduh./smile

“If I lived in Chicago now…”

If I lived in Chitcongo/Chiraq, the FIRST thing I’d do is MOVE. Saw a me me thingie awhile back that showed Miss Thang stating she didn’t go anywhere without having Smith and Wesson with her. The next frame showed a matched pair of American Bulldog Terriers…commonly referred to as pit bulls. Neither one had the smile that most pitties usually have.

You are most correct Ex, both parties could have handled this a whole lot better. Rent-a-cop could’ve showed more professionalism and Miss Thang could’ve been more cooperative. Baby girl lives just a few miles east of I-75 at Gibsonton Road (exit 250). Travelled it many a time. Every other road/street/driveway along that stretch is either a high dollar gated neighborhood, or a place that looks like “the hood.” Seen some sketchy things going on thru there. Hillsborough County itself is eat up with crooked politicians, POSers, and ne’er do wells. There is also a lot of good folks there. Tampa is rapidly becoming the trash heap of the area, lots of “homeless vets” and bums at each intersection. Lot’s of fake “security guards” too.

I do find it odd that she would “retire” from the AF at 16 years. Only 4 more to a long term future benefit package.

Jus Bill

That would be the only way to retire at 16 IMO. Unless the media got it wrong, which **NEVER** happens…

MustangCryppie

I remember 15 year retirements back in the 90s.

Did a little search and I guess they were still around through 2018.

Just a small correction re. the dogs, Brother. There are Johnson American Bulldogs, Scott (aka Standard) American Bulldogs and Hybrid American Bulldogs which are a cross between the two. There are no terrier varieties of the breed, and there is also no actual breed known as a pit bull. I’ve owned and rescued American Bulldogs since 2002, so I’m used to having people call my guy/girl a pit bull; the breeds are cousins of sorts, but the AB is a mix of boxer and mastiff. They are being used to correct some of the genetic problems caused by the injection of pug into the English Bulldog breed to breed them down in size. The EB should be roughly the same size as an AB, hence the health problems English Bulldogs have. American Bulldogs, BTW are great to run with, they need a lot of exercise to keep them out of mischief.

5th/77th FA

Thanks Doc, I stand corrected on my terminology. Little brain fart there. I’ve rescued several myself over the years and am looking now to replace one of my all time favorite brindles that I lost to cancer a while back. Great dogs, loyal as all hell, and would rip the lungs out of a POS that tried some stupid sh^t. My insurance agent was trying to give me some grief over her until I pointed out that (a) she couldn’t get out of the fence, (b) she was better than the alarm system for security, and (c) “I’m spending over 8 grand a year with y’all between vehicles and property, you want to lose that much business?” He shut the eff up and wrote the policy. She was a big ol’ lap puppy around the grand kids, but shore didn’t like strangers, ‘specially the darker complected ones. She had been used as a bait/fight dog when I saved her. Broke my heart when the Vet Doc said there was nothing more she could do for my girl.

RIP Macy Girl, Papa will see you again…soon.

RetiredDevilDoc8404

You’re right, Brother. They are a great breed. If you’re interested, American Bulldog Rescue has a bunch of dogs up for adoption, boys and girls. We’ve adopted from them and are also a foster home for them so I’ll vouch for them all the way.

West Point 1987

Wow…I so rarely run into this topic! I happen to know a bit about pit bulls…throughout my childhood, my impoverished family bounced around like gypsies, trading work for rent/utilities in old condemned houses. For 2 of those years (when I was 11-12 years old) we worked for one of the most prolific dog/cock fighters in East Texas. One of my jobs was training pit bulls for the pit, feeding/caring for them, exercising them and handling them during sparring matches (“rolls”)…so I know a little bit about the breed. My younger brother was a savant with fighting cocks, and the owner took him to Louisiana all the time to place bets for him–he never made a bad call. All the crazy character–“Tush Hogs”, prostitution, meth dealers, celebrities under the radar, etc. forced my mom to put her foot down and the family packed up and left like gypsies in the night. The dogs we’re talking about have quite a bit of terrier in them. It all started in England in the 18th Century with Bull and Bear Baiters crossing an Old English Bulldog with an Old English Terrier (“Rat Terrier”) to create the Stafford shire Bull Terrier. This breed made it to America in the 1870s, and was quickly crossed with larger breeds (like Mastiffs and Boxers) to build size and weight. This was known as the American Stafford shire Bull Terrier, or “Am-Staff”, which the American Bull Dog lines come from…all these breeds are recognized by the AKC and other organizations as legitimate breeds. Two breeders in the post-Depression era, Floyd Boudreaux in Louisiana and Grady Cummings in Alabama reinvented the breed, breeding for longer, lankier bodies, bigger heads and longer endurance…as well as aggressiveness in the ring. Now we have Pit Bulls, which are NOT recognized as a distinctive breed, primarily because the lines are not distinct and recorded. The fighting Pit Bulls I’ve been around are loving, energetic, protective and good pets. That said, we used to have to muzzle a bitch in heat and put her in a harness to get her bred–she’d kill the male as… Read more »

Yes, she could have done one or all of those things mentioned in the above post. But we seem to be forgetting something here. She is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until she commits a crime. Therefore, she should not be forced to do anything out of the ordinary just to prove to some self appointed observer that she is not up to no good.

Jus Bill

By the third run-by I’d be on the phone with 911. That’s why we pay them.

What would the story been if instead of a mall cop she encountered Chester the Molester? I think there was plenty of attitude to go around there.

I did a couple of traffic stops on guys who turned out to be TSA “agents.” They would flash their tin like they were real coppers. I always laughed at their silly asses.

The Stranger

I’m going to guess that you wrote ‘em up?🤣
They are rather unsympathetic characters and, if I’m not mistaken, didn’t our favorite disbarred lawer/light sport pilot claim that he had worked for TSA?

Pointyhead

At one time the Air Force was issuing early retirements in certain career fields, starting at 15 years and going up. They reduced your percentage by some amount but you still got the other retiree benefits. I have a buddy that got out at 16.5 years. I, myself, hung around for 21!

Bill R.

Seems to me that at the end of Bush 41 and was implemented shortly after Clinton became president, IIRC. I know we were seriously downsizing after Desert Storm and I was in the F-16 crewchief career field and they were wanting E-5’s and E-6’s to crosstrain into cops or chow hall. I rode it out and managed to stay in my field. I recall hearing about it at Homestead AFB just before Andrew

There’s an awful lot of stupid packed into a single story here…

I’m really tired of hearing about how we all should be able to do whatever we want to whenever we want to and it should always work out perfectly….

Indeed that is a marvelous fantasy, meanwhile back here in reality land some of us have what you call situational awareness and a bit of common sense. I should be able to walk the streets of Springfield Mass with $100 bills hanging from pockets after winning at the casino at 2am…but if I do it’s not unreasonable to expect a beating and a significant loss of money in the process.

Dressed in dark clothing while running alone in the dark is suspicious, fucktard security guards notwithstanding she’s a victim waiting for a perp right now…

Join a gym, carry a firearm, run in a group, be a bit smarter if that’s possible. If not, keep wondering why nothing goes your way and complaining that the world is mistreating you because I’m sure that will somehow magically make things better, dumbass.

11B-Mailclerk

People shreeeeek about “victim blaming” , but tell us all to wear seatbelts.

Don’t Do Dumb Deeds.

Sapper3307

We get some of Springfield Mass’s best and brightest in Vermont. Word got out if you get caught with a trunk load of heroin, Vermont police will pay you for profiling all drug runners..

NHSparky

I was working a job in Rutland a while back, and one of the folks remarked that any vehicle with NY or MA plates on Route 4 or 7 was considered probable cause.

Only partially kidding.

I still chuckle to myself when I think about Gov. Sununu criticizing Lawrence, MA and all the drugs that come through there to NH. The mayor of Lawrence got his panties in a major wad over that, but the truth hurts, I guess.

Sapper3307

A taxi cab from Brooklyn N.Y in almost Canada Vermont is a big clue. Driving the wrong way up the interstate is also a clue.
But RACIST according to the ACLU, BLM, SPLC.

MustangCryppie

When I was a beat cop, whenever some civilian asked for my “badge number”, I gave them that, my name and my ID number.

And I always told them to make sure they spelled my last name right cause folks misspell it all the time.

Hell, one complainer was so fucking stupid, I even wrote all that info down for her.

Harry

Don’t disparage sofa pillows! They’re good for hiding food stains that when found later I can blame on the kids!

Club Manager, USA ret.

You need to upgrade in the cat department. Our three are butt kickers. Keep our property and home clear of all lions, bears, tigers and the like. The 4 year old tom alerted us to a young copperhead that found its way into the house from the deck. The 9 year old executive cat woke me up at zero dark early when a washing machine water hose broke and the house was flooding. WORD: Spend the money and change your washing machine hoses to the metal type and throw away the rubber hoses.

Mason

Good advice. I swapped mine a year or so ago when I notice the hot water line had swollen up to two or three times the size of the cold. I can only assume it was going to fail sooner than later.

The cost difference between the two wasn’t even that much as I recall.

11B-Mailclerk

Security jobs seem populated with folks either on their way to something better, or on their way to worse.

The Stranger

Or those for whom that it’s the best they’ll ever get!

11B-Mailclerk

Now, contrast the above with the insanity of free-running black-clad ShutzStaffel Fascist thugs taking over Portland.

And the local government allows these lynch mobs to act, apparently as long as the victims do not die on the spot.

Escalation is obvious. Endgame of tyranny is obvious.

Waiting for the howls of outrage from so-called liberal lefties.

Didn’t think so.

mr. sharkman

Aaand what happened the last time a bunch of socialist street thugs pushed it too far and the silent majority (on the right, for the most part) responded in kind? Rallied by and following a charismatic leader, surrounded by a special group of especially skilled and experienced street thugs of his own?

Stupid MFers call themselves ‘antifascists’ when in reality they are sowing the seeds of a fascist-like movement that will put them all in the grave…

I was once a security guard myself in Florida. I can assure you that any bad thoughts you have about security guards are justified (except for myself and a select few others, of course). Much like any other occupation.

That being said, armed security guards are licensed in Fl., and have been for over 30 years due to public interest in an unfortunate misadventure involving a felon with a gun working as a security guard and killing someone.

This guard, however, was just doing the job he was being paid to do by the people in all those houses she was jogging/walking past at 5:30 AM. I can’t tell for sure from the video but it looked like he may have been wearing a uniform of some sort. I, too, would have stopped and questioned an unknown person concealed by a hooded sweatshirt jogging/walking through my turf at 5:30 AM. I, too, would have checked on her periodically while she was still in the neighborhood. I also looked up a map of the neighborhood, and 40 minutes+ is a long time to spend jogging/walking in a strange neighborhood which is not really very large. It would also be useful to see the entire video.

All in all, the guy was doing the job he was paid to do and she is just another hysterical, entitled, self-absorbed, professional victimized minority. If one of the homeowners had seen her they would have called the police. I have done so myself.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

The problem with the scenario you describe is that someone in the private employ of others and not at all affiliated with any legal law enforcement entity has about as much right to stop you as the local skateboarders do….

If you’re not a cop and we’re on a public piece of land and you give me shit as if you have some right to be questioning what I’m doing and where I’m doing it if I feel fearful for my life you might get shot in the face…or I might just tell you to fuck off and call 911 while livestreaming your dumb ass.

On private property I will concede to any and all questions asked by security guards as your right to protect your private property supersedes my right to privacy and access. On a public street that I pay for with my property taxes even up here in the PRoM we don’t have to kowtow to security guards questioning…

Defensor Fortis 92

Actually, I work in private security, and you are a little off the mark. I live and work in SC and the courts here have determined that wen a security officer is on duty they have the same rights of arrest as a deputy sheriff. Most security companies do not allow their personnel to do this, but there are companies that allow their officers to make arrests, pull people over, etc. It is a matter of state law. Not sure what it is in IL.

timactual

He didn’t “stop” her, as by her own admission she continued for 40 minutes. He stopped and asked a question, she chose to continue on her way.

Are you sure that street was public property? According to the map I found the area he was hired to guard, by the residents, was separate from the surrounding area and had limited access. I am not a lawyer but I think a case could be made that she was running on private roads, not public thoroughfares.

timactual

PS
While you are being “fearful for your life” you might also want to be fearful of the jury verdict you will receive for pulling that trigger.

First off, if you’re out jogging on public sidewalks and roadways in low light conditions, why aren’t you wearing high visibility, light colored clothing for your own safety unless you’re a dumbass?

Second, if you feel so strongly that you are in the right in such a confrontation, why would you not call 911 and report the situation when someone persists in wrongly engaging you, especially male on female?

Third, we’re talking about running, about being engaged in a body heat generating activity in Florida in almost July, and you effin’ need a HOODIE? I jogged in Florida for many years and I can promise you I never wore a frickin’ hoodie in July.

This story imparts an odor of something just not quite right.

rgr769

I am smelling a strong odor of feigned racial grievance. First if she is running at 5:30 am it is still likely dark. With that hood up, she could be any random hoodlum ne’er do well. Second, the guard could likely not tell she is female. Third, all she had to do was ID herself, and say keep an eye out for me, I am going to run here every morning about this time. But she would instead like to play “why is everybody always pickin on me?”

mr. sharkman

Any time I read anything about security guards behaving badly, I think of the greatest security guard story ever…The Tale of The Mall Ninja.
