Man shot by off-duty deputy at Riverside mall following robbery attempt of the deputy
The intended victims were an off-duty sheriff’s deputy, who was with his family, police say.

By Richard K. De Atley and Josh Cain
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy leaving the Galleria at Tyler in Riverside on Saturday with his family shot and wounded a gun-wielding man who tried to rob them, police said Sunday.

Multiple people called 911 after hearing gunfire that erupted in the mall’s parking lot at 9:45 p.m., officials from the Riverside Police Department said.

In a written statement, police said that’s around when the suspect — later identified as 25-year-old Moreno Valley resident Victor Hugo Ochoa — approached the deputy and his family members.

Police said the suspect “produced a firearm, then demanded (the family’s) belongings.”

“This attempted armed robbery resulted in a deputy-involved shooting,” police said in the statement.

The deputy fired his weapon at least once at the suspect. It’s not clear whether the deputy was armed with his department-issued firearm or another gun at the time of the shooting.

It’s also not clear if the suspect fired his weapon. Neither the deputy nor any of this family members were injured in the incident.

Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback said that after the shooting, the suspect fled to a nearby vehicle, then drove away. About 15 minutes later, Ochoa appeared at a hospital in Riverside’s Magnolia Center neighborhood with a single gunshot wound that police said was non-life threatening.

Toxic Deplorable B Woodman

There is SO much wrong with the first story.
The shootee couldn’t have said something when the shooter started shooting? “Hey! Don’t shoot! I’m helping someone who lives here!”

Mike W.

Ummm, ring the doorbell?
It was 8:41am not the middle of the night.
No reason to “break into” a house when someone is home.

1st story – idiots couldn’t just knock on the door?

Is that a brass knuckle + gun in that photo?

GDContractor

It’s a “brass knuckle explosive force finger amputator”.

CCO

Didn’t think roommate was home or was there something they’re not telling?

CCO

New email.

In regards to story number 3 about the deputy, this is another quote from the article: “He fired his weapon out of fear for his life and his family’s life,” Railsback said. “They’re victims in this.”

It’s nice that off duty LEO in California have that legal option to defend themselves. If you’re just a regular citizen, however….

CCW has changed in the Golden State. Most counties now issue permits to law abiding citizens. Don’t worry, the (D) leadership in Sacramento are busy trying to fix that. https://gs2ac.com/blogs/2018/03/ca-ccw-map-county/

That pictured zipgun proves that it is the shooter, not the ammo, that should be called

The school resource deputy from Broward has been arrested and fired, for his inaction during the school shooting. Lots of charges.

Wonderful news, definitely makes me feel better knowing that the Broward Coward will bear some of the burden of his gross dereliction of duty.

Thanks for the link.

If convicted and imprisoned, he will experience being trapped in a building, at the mercy of a predator, and know that the guards who could protect him probably won’t.

That is a rough thing for any man to endure. One ruled by fear will have an especially rough time.

But unlike the kids, his nightmare will go on, and on, for a rather long time.
