John Walker Lindh, American ex-Taliban militant, set to walk free Thursday

John Walker Lindh
John Walker Lindh, a former American Taliban militant due to be freed in May, is considered as radicalized as he was in 2001; Griff Jenkins reports.

John Walker Lindh, 38, known as the “American Taliban,” is expected to be released from a federal prison on May 23, 2019. He has been held a federal correctional facility in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Lindh has spent the past 17 years behind bars after accepting a plea deal, admitting charges related to his fighting alongside the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, in exchange for a 20-year prison sentence with the chance of earlier release.

Those charges included:
•Conspiracy to murder U.S. nationals
• Conspiracy to provide material support and resources to foreign terrorist organizations
• Providing material support and resources to foreign terrorist organizations
• Conspiracy to provide material support and resources to al Qaeda
• Providing material support and resources to al Qaeda
• Conspiracy to contribute services to al Qaeda
• Contributing services to al Qaeda
• Conspiracy to supply services to the Taliban
• Supplying services to the Taliban
• Using, carrying and possessing firearms and destructive devices during crimes of violence

He obtained Irish citizenship while behind bars, and reportedly plans to move to Ireland as opposed to remaining in the United States.

The Islamic militant who became known as the infamous “American Taliban” member is set to be released from a U.S. federal prison Thursday despite lawmakers’ concerns about the “security and safety implications” of freeing an unrepentant terrorist who officials say continues to “openly call for extremist violence.”

John Walker Lindh, who is currently behind bars in Terre Haute, Indiana, is set to be discharged May 23, several years before he would complete the prescribed 20-year prison sentence he received for joining and supporting the Taliban. The former Islamist fighter and enemy combatant, named “Detainee 001 in the war on terror,” was arrested in 2001, just months after the Sept. 11 attacks and the start of the war in Afghanistan, along with a group of Taliban fighters who were captured by U.S. forces.

“We must consider the security and safety implications for our citizens and communities who will receive individuals like John Walker Lindh, who continue to openly call for extremist violence,” Sens. Richard C. Shelby, R-Ala., and Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., wrote in a letter to the Federal Bureau of Prisons late last week that was obtained by the Washington Post.

In the letter, the lawmakers reportedly sought details on how the agency is working to prevent prisoners such as Lindh from committing additional crimes after their release. They also asked which other “terrorist offenders” are next in line to be freed and how the Federal Bureau of Prisons determines whether or not someone is an “ongoing public threat.”

Since he played a part in the death of Mike Spann, the former Marine and CIA paramilitary operative, moving to Ireland or Iceland won’t help much, which I’m sure he knows. The residing in Ireland claim is ludicrous- he’ll get back to a ME country in turmoil as fast as he can and rejoin the jihad. The rest of the article may be viewed here: Fox News

Make the little fuck wear a GPS collar, then they know EXACTLY where to send the Predator Drone!

Fyrfighter

Chip him like the dog he is!

The Other Whitey

Dogs are loyal. Unlike this snake-ass piece of shit.

Mason

I think he should wear a collar made of det cord instead.

Fyrfighter

I like that idea! My dad told me stories of such from his time in Viet Nam

The Other Whitey

Fly him to Ireland, and have a little in-flight emergency halfway that requires the flight crew to jettison nonessential weight.

Graybeard

I dunno, maybe he can disappear, with help.

Perhaps he will fall into a bog somewhere.

The front door of the Federal Pen there at Terre Haute faces the Wabash River which is about a klik away. However, between the pen and the river is the Federal Execution Chamber, which is rumored to serve some 5-Star cocktails.

Maybe somebody will treat him to a few “drinks” on the way out./smile

Ah, I can see it now. Release time 0300 hrs, meets up with his 72 virgins about 0302 hrs.

26Limabeans

He could trip on the threshold while exiting the building.

A Proud Infidel®™

I’m sure he can’t wait to go back to the ME and be the “Sheep Boy” every man-love Thursday!

5th/77th FA

How about giving him a one way trip to Paradise? That seems to be their goal in life. Maybe a HANO over the ME sh^thole country of his choice?

Releasing this POS will come back to bite us.

Sapper3307

Will he voting in 2020?

UpNorth

I’m sure he will, he’s probably been voting dem for the last 19 years.

David

Well, Bernie wants his vote…

Fyrfighter

Maybe he can bunk with Commissar?

Commissar

I am not one of the traitors on this blog.

Commie-Tsar

I am a traitor… my profs at Berkeley told me that everyday, when I wavered in my support to Communism… I tell myself that every day while I touch my Flaccid Penis of Truth!

xyzzy

A commie Tsar? You mean like Stalin, the Red Tsar?

Hondo

For once, Poodle, I agree.

Turncoats actually know which side they’re supporting. Fellow travelers and/or useful fools (AKA useful idiots) such as yourself are simply dupes who don’t realize they’re working against their own interests.

They’re also generally among the first who end up against the wall if their Leftist “brethren” actually gain power.

Commissar

It is not the leftists that line people up. It is the authoritarian personalities that fill the void of power after the leftists dismantle the structures. Which is why the leftists are lined up against the wall too.

3/10/MED/b

Somebody ate a thesaurus this morning.

Hondo

Yeah, lotsa big words. Too bad his comments are otherwise devoid of accurate, logical content.

Fyrfighter

Nah, just “word of the day” toilet paper…

Fyrfighter

Stalin, Mao, Che, Castro, Pol Pot, etc. etc. etc… Seems like you need to do a bit more homework there Commie-Tsar

Ex-PH2

Isn’t denial of reality a form of mental illness? Something like that?

There’s so much denial in that stuff he spouts….

Hondo

I never realized that Denial River flowed through Berkeley.

NHSparky

150 million folks in China, the Soviet Union, North Korea, Cambodia, et al, might disagree with you just a tad, Lars.

rgr769

They can’t really, cuz they are dead, dead, killed by socialism/comunism

HMCS(FMF) ret

“It’s a bug, not a feature”

Commisar

Commie-Tsar

I dream of seeing up a gulag system here in Commiefornia… and sending many people to be “reeducated”.

The I wake up from my dream are realize that I peed the bed… again.

Usafvet509

Oh, beg to differ, sweetpea. You are indeed a traitor to your oath. Plain and simple

Mason

Why the fuck would Ireland want him? He’s not repentant, he’s not rehabilitated, he’s still a Jihadi. So why we releasing him? Just like the guys they kick loose from Gitmo, we’ll be seeing him again.

Hondo

We’re releasing the turncoat bastard because under our laws, he’s completed his sentence. He deserved the needle, but plead out in exchange for 20 years w/possibility of early release.

Being a nation of laws does at times have certain disadvantages. One could consider this one of those disadvantages.

MI Ranger

Hondo, I thought you had to be repentant to get early release? Are you saying you just have to not get caught doing anything bad while in prison and you get early release…to go back to doing what you were doing before you got caught?

Graybeard

MI Ranger,
In most prison systems if the inmate does not engage in blatant and repeated misbehavior (s)he is still eligable for parole, unless otherwise specified in the punishment.
It is, in all honesty, a rather low bar to hurdle.

A Proud Infidel®™️

The next time he gets caught in the ME I just hope that he simply gets a bullet to his head which will save taxpayers the future expense of feeding, clothing and housing the little shit as well as legal expenses!

Andy11M

How the hell do you get Irish citizenship while sitting in a Federal prison?

26Limabeans

Ask Whitey Bulger. His application was denied with extreme prejudice.

J Wright

One can obtain Irish citizenship if one has a grandparent (or parent) who is/was Irish. It’s a scam to generate income from folks who want to celebrate their Irish heritage. “Proof” can be a Baptisimal Certificate for a grandparent. Whether Lindh used this method to become “Irish” is unknown. Maybe the very few anti-US douchebags in Ireland sponsored his application is more likely. Anyways, travel to Eire is easy, tracking him is easy, and purchase of a hurling stick is easy. Hopefully, someone will beat him to death and leave his sorry ass remains for the crows. I’d like to see it happen (watching my words)

Andy11M

so I took a minute to google it and found this “Lindh secured Irish citizenship in 2013 through his paternal grandmother, Kathleen Maguire, who was born in Donegal.[47]”. I guess post WWII birth records are easy enough to verify, I wonder if Ireland required him to renounce his US citizenship? Oh I hope so and the deport him straight away.

rgr1480

Ireland does not require one to renounce US citizenship. I have a friend who applied for and received Irish citizenship & passport — she maintains her US passport.

David

As Mr. Twain said “I don’t want to kill anyone. But there are a few people’s obituaries which I am eagerly anticipating.” (Or something very similar)

Thunderstixx

Just finished the book “Horse Soldiers” that told the tale of him and the uprising he was part of in Afghanistan.
Sorry fuck should have been killed when we had the chance…

rgr769

For the umpteenth time, Lindh was not Taliban. He was schooled at a madrassa in P-stan where he learned Arabic. He was terrorist trained by and joined Al Queda, as he could not communicate with the Taliban as they spoke either Pashto or Dari. The SF team that captured him after the uprising would have turned him over to their Northern Alliance counterparts to be shot as a foreign fighter, but he was interviewed by the media and identified as an American, so that couldn’t happen. But for that media contact, we never would have heard of him.

Dustoff

Great point. If Im, not mistaken it was Robert Young Pelton that did the interview.

Jus Bill

Let him go back to the ME so he can play catch with an air dropped munition. His 72 Virginians are waiting…

USAFRetired

well I’m pretty sure there are grounds to put him on the Do Not Fly list. Good luck walking to Ireland.
