Naval Academy will enforce Pentagon’s transgender ban
AnotherPat sends us a link about the impact of DOD’s new transgender policy and the effect it has on applicants to the Academy, and midshipmen currently enrolled. The new policy, which affects about 9,000 service members who self-identify as transgender, is in stark contrast to how the Obama administration released its policy in 2016 that allowed transgender individuals to serve openly.
The new policy largely requires service members and those wishing to join the military to adhere to the standards associated with their biological sex.
Officials said the policy was “not a ban on transgender individuals serving in the military” but focused on those diagnosed with gender dysphoria, defined as “a marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and assigned gender … associated with clinically significant distress and impairment of functioning.” The Pentagon argues the policy simply allows the department to deal with gender dysphoria as it would any other diagnosis or disorder that would impair someone’s ability to serve.
All this of course created a mix of who is and isn’t eligible to serve, or remain in the service.

Transgender people will be effectively banned from attending the Naval Academy beginning in the 2020 school year, the Defense Department confirmed Monday.Policy barring transgender people from serving in the United States military will also affect the Naval Academy, which has under previous policy accepted transgender students and retained midshipmen who want to transition during the course of their education.
Naval Academy alumna Alex Marberry became one of the first sailors to transition after former Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter under the Obama administration lifted restrictions on service in 2016. A midshipman, Regan Kibby, is one of six service members suing the Trump administration for the ban.
Those enrolled in the service academies for fall 2019 will fall under the previous military policy, said spokeswoman Jessica Maxwell. The Carter policy allowed transgender people to serve openly and covered medical expenses for gender affirmation surgery.
But those applying to the Naval Academy for the 2020-2021 school year and beyond will be enrolled under former Defense Secretary James Mattis’ 2018 policy, which brings back restrictions on how transgender people can serve.
The Social Engineering of the military during the Obama administration, abetted by ‘Ash’ Carter will take years to fix, and its going to be a messy process. Here’s a start, and the other Service Academies will follow suit.

Good. We don’t need people who are confused about what hardware they have, with the associated mental issues and self-destructive tendencies. They never belonged in the military. Just like we wouldn’t want paranoid schizophrenics, bi-polar, or any other serious service-prohibiting mental condition.
We have enough trouble with the mental and physical issues service creates in otherwise healthy people to start off with damaged goods.
Also, even by these advocates’ own numbers, this (9k of 1.2m on active duty) affects less than 1% of the population.
Thank You, Ed, for posting this. You provided an excellent synopsis on the topic.
“The U.S. Coast Guard has also implemented the new policy. It states on its website that the new policy took effect April 12.”
“Coast Guard Academy spokesman David Santos confirmed in an email Wednesday that the policy change applies to the school in New London, Connecticut. A lengthy explanation on the Coast Guard’s website states that past medical treatment, such as gender-reassignment surgery or hormone therapy, may disqualify future applicants from joining up.”
So far, the Air Force Academy has not provided a comment…going to be interesting on what West Point does.

“So far, the Air Force Academy has not provided a comment…going to be interesting on what West Point does.” I understand what you’re saying, and why, but what I don’t understand is why it’s even a topic. Last i checked, the Service Academies all fall under the DoD, and as such, when the rule came down, should have been their policy immediately.
Doesn’t Coast Guard fall under Interior or DHS?
DHS
“gender dysphoria?” So that is what the official name for a lopoffmydicktomectomy and or addapenisitis is?
Okay fine. You got a name for a supposed medical condition. Treat it like any other medical condition that would prevent the enlistment/service to any posting that other medical conditions would cause. ie, flat feet, heart murmurs ect ect so on so on. Easy peasy.
If a person is confused as to what they have or do not have between their legs, how confused are they going to be by the operation of equipment in a hostile environment? Don’t like what you were born with? Too bad. Don’t expect me to pay for it to be changed to something else.
the left would tell you there is no such animal as “gender dysphoria” and all of these people that want to get junk cut off and start popping HRT pills are perfectly normal
Back in the day when we were at Lackland AFB for basic, the males and females (WAF’s), were kept separate. The bad joke that circulated was one of the WAF TI’s barking, “When I call ATTENTION, I expect to hear 36 pussies sucking air” or something pretty close. So how would it work if a transgender snuck into a male basic training flight? Would the TI call ATTENTION then ask WTF was that sucking sound?
Apologies to the ladies up front.
Not sure how trans fit in here, but the Marine Corp has done some studies in increasing the size of squads by using WMs in the place of men.The outcome has not been positive. One has to wonder what the effect of trans would be in the same testing environment.
yes yes I know
They did a study a few years back testing all male and mixed units. The study concluded that the mixed Male/ female units performed at much lower levels and recommended against incorporating it.
Ash Carter wiped his ass with the report and told them to fuck off and be “inclusive”.
Hopefully Trump will get another term so the Military can finish purging the Clintonistas and Obamites from the ranks.
Thanks, Obama.
Sucks for the people already in affected by it but frankly they fucking knew it was a bad idea and this could happen. It should have never happened to begin with. The military unlike every other Fed gov .org is result oriented not a jobs program for certain demographics.
So does this mean the MOS for Tail Gunner will no longer be allowed?
FWIW, there’s a 2018 Netflix documentary titled TransMilitary currently airing that portrays four active duty transgender service members. One Air Force TG is a biological female who transitions to male and deploys to Kandahar AB, AFG. Stateside, “he” eventually marries a biological male who transitions to female. “She” was recently medically separated from the Army after 12 years of service with an honorable discharge. If all this sounds confusing it is, but not nearly as confused as the subjects of this documentary.
The film is a sympathetic portrayal of a few of the estimated 15,000 TGs currently serving in the military, which makes the US Armed Forces the nation’s largest employer of TGs. The lobbying efforts of SPART*A (Service Members, Partners, Allies For Respect and Tolerance For All) feature prominently in the film. Perhaps the most difficult to watch segments depict young children in TG “families.”
In 2017, the manpower strength of the U.S military (counting active and reserves, including Coast Guard was appx 2.15 mil). 15,000 people would constitute .6% of that. That is a statistical aberration.
And you are right, the most confusing part ARE the subjects of the documentary.
I’m calling bullshit on the “15,000 TGs currently serving”
With enough time on the Google, I’m sure someone less lazy than me could find the study from the Palm Center (IIRC) that pushed that number.
And the studies that said that number resulted from shoddy math and wishful thinking
I agree the 15K number seems inflated. During my 21 years in the military I served with several gay personnel, but to my knowledge I never encountered a uniformed TG member. I think SPART*A is responsible for publicizing the 15K figure as part of it’s lobbying of Congressional and military leaders.
Evan Starbucks?
The RAND Corporation did a study in 2016 which put the number between 2150 and 10790. Thats WAY below 15000. Using that same number of 2.15 million, split the difference and say 7500. That’s .3% of the serving forces of the military. Why should the US Military bend over backwards for an aberration?

Two quotes to takeaway:
1. From the post- “The Pentagon argues the policy simply allows the department to deal with gender dysphoria as it would any other diagnosis or disorder that would impair someone’s ability to serve.”
2. From FatCircles0311- “It should have never happened to begin with.”
Recognizing this as a disorder to be treated by healthcare professionals is the best way to handle those currently in the service, and FC hits it out of the park- this should never have been an issue in the first place.
I never understood any of this anyway….it’s not that I’m not sympathetic to how complicated life must be if you have male hardware and believe yourself a woman or vice versa.
But when it comes to serving if I show up at training dressed as Santa and proclaiming I am Santa and you must allow me to serve I’m going to be escorted off base and most likely placed in a mandatory psych hold to ascertain my fitness for life on the streets, never mind life in the military.
But if I show up in a dress and proclaim I’m really a woman trapped in a 6’3″ 250lb body you’re supposed to smile and show me where I sleep in the barracks? What the fucking fuck is that?
Meanwhile, in UT-Austin, this young lady got told her ROTC scholarship was just revoked so she’s shaking the tin cup of GoFundMe. Never mind the fact that she managed to pay for top surgery, hormone replacement, etc……she doesn’t have money to pay for COLLEGE!

There are plenty of other scholarships available and the grants committees don’t care about the whosiewhatsis stuff.
Ex,
That would require….WORK. Why should SHE work. Thats what the Gofundme is for. Duh
Well, Jay, I do try to be a voice of reason, and that means pointing out the obvious to spoiled brats like her.
Ex,
I tell people at my job that common sense is so rare it should be considered a superpower. I used to say it as a joke……
You are what you are and you ain’t what you ain’t.
