Our old server has needed to be replaced for a long time as I have mentioned. We have a new server and I had already set it up and used some sample data from our old server to migrated to it.
Jetpack does full backups of the site several times a week. I also do a full backup and download of the data once a week.
The Jetpack backups will not install into the new server because there is no way to make necessary changes to the data in backup format so it can be installed into all the updated services etc.
They decommissioned the server suddenly saying I have been given notice. I had, to an old email that Jonn and I used 10 years ago and I hardly ever check these days. But, sure enough there they were.
Now connection to the old server is down so I have to access the data manually and remotely at about 1 to 2 meg speed rates. This takes about 17 hours to transfer all the data to one machine.
I can then upload it to another server, convert the data as I should have in the first place, then do a backup of that dev site and restore it to the new server and then hope it all works. If not I will have to debug everything until it does.
In the end our data will (should) be good for another 10 years and the next Village Idiot can deal with it.

In the meantime, some former Soviet keeps distracting me with various spousal obligations. In lieu of continual apologies may I offer hope your holiday is going well.
