(Rev) Aaron Elijah Colyer; another Marine Pretend Traumatic Stress survivor (UPDATE)
Someone called to tell us about this Aaron Elijah Colyer fellow who looks to be a homeless Marine Corps veteran. He’s set up a Rally tin cup to take up collections for helping veterans, mostly, though, I’m guessing that it’s for helping himself. There are reports of him recently panhandling as a combat veteran with PTSD outside the Oakland A’s game.
On July 24, 2014, I was homeless, a Disabled USMC Veteran with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and I was ticketed by Alameda Police for “Sleeping/Living in a Vehicle”. When did it become illegal to exist? When did it become illegal to be homeless? What else is a person supposed to do?
When I began to do some research I found that it’s not JUST me, there is an epidemic of homelessness in America and according to estimates by the Department Veterans Affairs, 23% of all homeless persons are veterans. That means between 250,000-1,000,000 homeless veterans, many of which are disabled and suffer from PTSD and other mental health issues and do not receive, or are ineligible for, V.A. medical care or services.
Googling around the internet, you can find examples of him calling himself “Rev”, although I can’t find a church with which he is affiliated. Back three years ago, he had attached himself to the Occupy Movement;

You got robbed and so did I and if you dont stand up to these folk then you are accomplices and deserve to be robbed and much more.

He has applied to the VA for benefits, but because he has an Other Than Honorable Conditions discharge, they won’t help. According to the VA he has a number of Captains’ Masts (Article 15s) mostly for misbehaving under the influence. He is, however, getting help from some of the non-profits to fix his homeless problem which have a lower threshold for benefits than the VA. But, I guess the DD214 comes with PTS. I really wish these guys would start blaming their bad behavior on their parents like they used to do, instead of their peacetime service as an aircraft mechanic in Beaufort, South Carolina.
UPDATE: OK, he sends this set of discharge orders from the National Guard. I suspect (from my experience) that he witheld information from the NGs when he enlisted and when they found out about the UOTHC discharge, they asked him to leave and gave him an Honorable Discharge. But we won’t know that unless he sends us a NG-22.
He also claims that his PTS resulted from childhood trauma and that he never claimed that it happened during his service, but he never said that it didn’t either. You decide.

Yes,I think it does. When you are issued a DD256/NGB55 that means (at that time) that they are completely done with you,no further commitments or IRR time or anything. You are out and we won’t call you back for anything.

That video answered some questions. He is or at least was in 2009, a “liberation theology” adherent, similar to Obama’s former pastor Jeremiah Wright. His interpretation of Acts 19 is oriented to essentially condemning America for being a wealthy nation, rather than the call to a life of dedicated devotion to Christ as intended.
Like pretty much every other corrupted standpoint, he is trying to claim a Christian foundation for his views that doesn’t really exist, and in this video he is attempting to act the part of the learned Bible teacher to give the lesson some unearned gravatis. Unfortunately, this doesn’t come off very well, as he doesn’t seem to be all that terribly familiar with scripture, or is stoned half out of his mind here. Or both.
No familiarity or understanding of scripture, combined with a complete lack of any formal seminary training, plus a real serious social justice axe to grind. A bad combination. Please read the regs again, and stop cherry picking the parts you think will make it appear you are elligible… Your discharge has to be appealed to the Military Branch who discharged you, the VA wilol not change the character of discharge. Your pattern of misconduct precludes you to benefits under VA regulation 38 CFR § 3.12(d).

So, this asshat is at it again. he claims on twitter that the VA has reclassified his status and he is entitled to full benefits. he posted a picture of a letter that is supposedly from the VA and trolled a couple high vis veteran twitter accounts to get retweeted. I put up a link to this page and HE FREAKED! Started calling me vile names and threatening me. his twitter handle is @TruthCastersTV so everyone should check him out. I am sure he would love to hear everyone here’s opinion, and I am sure twitter would like your opinion of his obscene and threatening tweets.
