Kirjath Toney; the oddest phony
So we got this information on the guy who is with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, an altruistic organization. So this Kirjath Toney fellow apparently takes advantage of them to make himself to be some kind of hero amongst them. You can see from his uniform that he claims a Purple Heart, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. He’s already threatened to sue whoever is spreading these rumors about him, so I guess that means he’ll be suing the NPRC;
Someone wrote to tell us that he was at Arlington recently “honoring” the folks buried there in his phony finery. I’m sure they felt honored by his presence.

Funny, this is the first I’ve heard of this meeting – in an email to someone who is not me. Folks have emailed their docs before and asked me not to post them, and I’ve always honored their request.

I got one reply on 9 May from Toney. He gave me an e-mail address for someone to contact that I’ve looked up via my secret squirrel methods. It belongs to a civilian employee in training at Lackland AFB. I’m still trying to figure out how that will help, but since the guy hasn’t responded to my e-mails, I still don’t know.
If Mr. Toney does give you a date for a visit, let me know. My weekends this month are filling up, but I have a sports car that needs to be rung out after spending the winter in the garage, so a trip out west to spend some time with Mr. Toney might be worthwhile, at least in one sense.

I have a bit of familiarity with ministries, and did a bit of checking on this one. It is what is called a “truck stop ministry,” oriented (at least originally) to, well, truck drivers and truck stop employees and the assorted characters who hand around them. Nothing at all wrong with most of them, and they provide a greatly needed service to an underserved population.
But.
This one, “Lighthouse Team Ministries,” has all the warning flags of a rogue, out of control ministry. There is no “statement of faith” to be found anywhere in their writings (this is very important, let’s you know where they foundationally stand); there is no oversight board or sponsoring church, church group, parachurch organization, or convention, and not even a hint of what particular denominational stand they take; they do not have a 501( c ) (3) or even a corporate entity – AND they suggest you give “tithes” to them (which should ONLY go to a local church!); and worst of all there is no information available, at least on the site or through the channels I checked, about the “Pastor,” not even a bare bones biography, so there is no way to determine if he is actually an ordained pastor or a complete fraud.
Then we have “Deacon Kelley Harrop” who has also been posting here, he claims a Methodist preaching (that he calls “speaking”) background, but his longest serving position was as a writer for a Canadian Catholic magazine, all without mentioning any formal Biblical studies or training.
All in all a very troubling picture, then you have “Pastor” Toney here acting in a most decidedly non-pastoral manner.

As for your pontificating about “having all the facts before writing about them”, take a good hard look at the document from the NPRC posted above… Kirjath doesn’t rate the SS, BS, PH or the CIB according to them. I’d weight what NPRC has on file a whole lot more that what Kirjath has in the way of “documentation”.
So, Harrop – are you saying Toney is incapable of (1) using a photocopier, and (2) dropping an envelope in the US Mail?
Are you saying John is incapable meeting with Mr. Toney. Mr. Toney has asked John the blogger to meet with him to see the evidence he has. If John the Blogger was a true reporter, he would meet with K.D. and look at his evidence. If John does not have gas money to meet with K.D., he can ask K.D. for the gas money. Just give K.D. an address to send him the gas money.
It does not matter if one is a journalist who writes for a paper, or a blog. Before you write your story, you have to research all of your facts to find the truth. If John is willing to meet with Mr. Toney, at a public place for a cup of coffee, go for it. If the reason John the blogger does not want to see K.D.’s evidence about himself, tells me that John the blogger does not seek the truth, that everything that he writes on his blog is a pact of lies.

Again, I’m offering you a logical solution, Kelley (why is it that we here have to do the heavy intellectual lifting for you). Have Toney forward a meeting invitation to Jonn, but include you on the correspondence (I’d suggest a conference call or an e-mail with you cc’d). Then wait for it to actually happen. If Toney does, and Jonn doesn’t accept, then your perceptions have been born out. If Toney does and Jonn accepts, then someone will get vindication based on whatever documentation Toney has. If Toney never sends the invitation, then you are going to have to dig down deep inside and ask yourself why.
The other option is to have Toney take me up on my offer to meet him in Arlington, VA at the time of his choosing. Just to let you know, I’ve made the offer both here and by e-mail to Toney. So far, I haven’t gotten a response. Maybe you should start that deep down digging and ask why now.

Everything is treated with suspicion. A tip or even a full set of records. I ask myself why someone would want to report this person or that as a fake. Is there a reason? Is someone trying to get even.
Next, I cannot even begin to explain how mush time is put into every post. I am speaking for myself only but I know that I fact check every thing I put up. If I cannot verify any information then it does not get included.

There are millions of men and women who serve in the church and you never hear of them. They toil behind the scenes doing what they think is right. Most are intelligent and highly thoughtful people.
The ones who are not are the ones you read about. I am not naive enough to say that the type of person you describe does not exist, but they are the exception, not the rule.
I would offer this to ponder: if you get upset when the media paints all current and former military members as “crazy” or suffering from PTSD, etc because one actually is, then why are you willing to change the broad paint brush’s color from military green to church white?
Most men (and women) of God are honorable people, just like most of those who serve in the military. Please do not let the actions of a few color your view of either group in its entirety.

I know that people have been hurt by men (and women) claiming to be “of God.” I am sorry that you were one of those people. I cannot tell you how it grieves my heart to hear the tales of the “Godly people” that take advantage of or abuse those who have trusted them.
My consolation is that I know that my beliefs say that God holds the pastor / teacher to a higher standard of conduct. I suppose that is because there is a difference in a sin out of ignorance and a deliberate sin. I also suppose that it is because pastor / teachers / deacons are given so much position and importance in the church that a betrayal of that trust and obligation can affect so many people as it obviously has you.
There is no need to apologize to me. I understood what you were saying and felt that you must have had the wrong kind of experience.
I guess that as I have grown older I see more and more how blanket statements I made in my youth are wrong. I think that I need to be reminded once in awhile that my life (as a youth worker and praise and worship leader) has to be on point and solid to what I say I believe.

I have noticed that “Men of God” often tend to be like Veterans. The vast majority tend to practice their belief, help others and show others how belief bought peace and balance to their life.
Many times the ones who broadcast how good and godly they are, and how much they do to help others are posers. Just like posers their actual accomplishments are minimal. They get “ordained” and have a “church” that has less then a dozen members, often just relatives.
I believe every organization could use more people like you.
That’s what keeps me coming back here, to TAH. Even though we talk about some of the lowest people the world has to offer, I am also constantly reminded that the best the world has are not content to let the bad have the only voice. Thanks for that today.

HQ, 9th Infantry Division, G.O. No. 89 (1944) and Toney, Malcolm B. HQ, 3d Infantry Division, G.O. No. 177 (1945). There wasn’t a single Silver Star awarded to anyone named Toney during the Vietnam War.
Perhaps you should take the Reagan Approach with your friend KD Toney, trust but verify. If he truly is a Silver Star recipient, then he should not only have the medal citation but orders awarding the medal as well. it should also be on his DD-214 (discharge papers).
Toney first said he would send all his information to Jonn. He reneged on that. Then he said, through someone else, that he would meet Jonn to show him the documents. He never contacted Jonn to attempt to set up a meeting. Does that sound like someone who truly wants to set the record straight?

I am no longer going to acknowledge anything that this Harrop wack-a-doo says. He’s a charlatan and appears to be waging a very poor attempt at protecting his own self interests to the detriment of real veterans and real good people full of demonstrable integrity. Guys like “Phoney Toney” and James Ferris irk me to no end. We are taught to respect our elders, particularly those who served. The fact that Phoney Toney is a manipulative little creature who wormed his way into funerals and legitimate events based on what official government records prove to be drastically fake military credentials is beyond low. It demonstrates that Phoney Toney is all about himself and his own ego (and possibly profit for whatever he and his little “substitute teacher” sycophant have going on), and nothing to do with actual veterans. The Supreme Court advised on how people can fight back against such demonstrable frauds and fakes. Jonn et al did their research in line with the intent of the Court and no amount of obfuscation is going to detract from the truth.
Sorry for the rant. I was thinking about a friend who was killed in Afghanistan a few years back and then looked at the picture of Phoney Toney slithering around a military funeral, and it got me fired up.
In summary:
Liar lies about his military service.
Liar assumes various “charitable” positions based upon embellished military service.
The honorable thing to do is to admit the lies, offer some semblance of contrition, promise to sin no more, and get on with life.
Instead, we have the liar stirring the pot, compounding the self-inflicted wounds and sending in the inevitable second snowed by the lies or complicit in the deception, but certainly sharing in the limelight of the fraud.
Conclusion: Liars lie and expect others to accept their lies just because they are so, you know, like, “special.”
Advice to the valor thief and his supporters: Repeating your lies makes your argument weaker, not stronger. Just stop lying – it really will make your life easier. Not that we expect it, but it does occasionally happen.

The WiFi access is slow and limited (which makes me a bit angry every time I open anything) so I don’t post a lot. But in the days I have been gone a lot has happened with this guy. First, I notice he has his very own sock puppet going now, hard and heavy. Like the local IOOF chapter they are most all on walkers and/or on wheel chairs because they can’t get new blood into the organization. They do love their bling though and always have. This guy is just sporting way more than he should. Make that, he is sporting stuff he has no documents, I’ve seen as yet, to support the military honors he’s showing. Apparently he had honorable service. To any man who went through Korea, especially in the early days of the Chosin Reservoir era, my hat is off I don’t care of he was a cook. I think Toney has been rockin’ this for decades and it is going to be a hard thing for a man at his age to come clean about and stop doing. Not saying he shouldn’t do the right thing, it’s just been my experience that the older they get the harder it is for them to accept their mess up and make amends. Also, based on what exactly do you hold yourself out to be a Bibilcal scholar and teacher? What is your hermeneutical approach and methodology, particularly in relation to lesson and sermon preparation? Do you, in fact, qualify for the title you claim based on Acts 6 and 1 Timothy 3? How do your define your office, and closely related, how do you differentiate it from that of your “Pastor”? I ask this last because I have noted you tend to be the spokesman for your “church,: whilst Toney is strangely silent across the board.
As to “Pastor” Toney, why do you submit to his authority and office? What are his qualifications to teach and pastor, based on Matthew 6, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5?
Lastly, why is it that it is very easy to find where to give you and the other leaders of this church a “tithe” or offering, but it is so very difficult to find out anything about the ministry itself? Not a single Protestant denomination I contacted had any information about you.

Someone saw the picture of Mr. Toney on the IOOF website wearing a Combat Infantry Badge, jump wings, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and medals for Korean service. Somehow they thought that Mr. Toney didn’t earn the awards that he is wearing, and a Freedom of Information Act request was made to the National Personnel Records Center. Mr. Toney’s records were forwarded under the request, showing that the federal government has no record of Mr. Toney receiving the CIB, jump wings, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, or the Purple Heart. Your supporting claim that the IOOF has seen his records and have absolved him is a preposterous concept, predicated on the idea that the IOOF has nothing to loose if Mr. Toney’s claims were proven false. How difficult would it be for the IOOF to explain to its members, the military that it purports to support, and potential members that the highest ranking member of its military order was a fraud? Wouldn’t it be easier to just hope that it all went away? We’ve seen the same thing happen here with the KWVA, and multiple Legion and VFW chapters. Why not the IOOF?
