Weekend Open Thread
Both the Republican and Democratic parties stood their ground regarding the budget. Neither side wanted to back down, resulting in another government shutdown. The Republicans tried to get a continuing resolution through that would fund the government for a short period. However, the Democrats put conditions on it, returning us to the wasteful spending and policies that President Trump wanted us to move away from. Enjoy your weekend!

First!!!
Still the King!
AH HA!! A.H.,
Early and still late or late to the early party I guess.
Oh well, here!
Smooches to all, you disgusting, deplorable, deviant, dickweeds.
Tally HO!!! WEEKEND!!
(SO when are the aliens landing, Trump is instituting marshall law, the entirety of the Demoncrap party is being frog marched off to GITMO, and then we’re mass exporting the trash of the U.S. to the ME or the Subcontinent.
Any nice properties in Arkansas?? Nah, maybe South Carolina. AR is too far from the beach.
“martial” law….
(buncha uneducated dillweeds)
Which is different from marital law, where the wife sets the rules.
Texas has its own beaches, and is almost a free state.
Almost?
Austin…
Ah…
Houston, Austin, Dallas – (D)emon-rat Soros-funded cancers on the Great State of Texas
I’d say sorta benign because Texas is or on the way to being a Republican stronghold.
I won’t call that cancer cured until it is eradicated and we have 10 years with no remission.
YMMV
Cong-rats AH, recliner time put me out of the race for first
Thanks, Jeff! 😁
Cong-Rats, AmHi!
Thanks Gray! 😁
Present! Second!
3rd you are
😀😛🤪😄😎🤣😂😅
As Maxwell Smart said, “Missed it by THAT much!” Congrats to AH and trivia for all is now offered as tribute!
DID YOU KNOW…?
Who holds the Major League Baseball record for most ejections from games?

Something really amazing happens in this space next week. Another birthday.
Not for me, of course. That’s already been and gone. No, it’ll be the column’s birthday – but I’ll talk more about that next week.
For the moment, let’s focus on the trivia that you came to this particular page of your favorite newspaper to enjoy. I’ve got it ready right here, so you settle back, grab a nice snack or beverage (or both), and enjoy the collection presented for you to do just that.
Did you know …
… the number 22,000 should be important to you? If you wonder why, read on. Assuming you’re like the average human adult, that’s the number of breaths you take in one 24-hour period. This “average person” takes between 12 and 16 breaths per minute when resting, but more when exercising. (The older I get, the more that number holds meaning for me.)
… ancient Greek and Roman statues were painted? Over the thousands of years since they were created, the paint – which made them very colorful – has worn away, leaving only the bare marble. But there are tiny flecks of original paint found on many of them, leading archaeologists to conclude that the artists didn’t just sculpt a statue, they colorized it as well. (Which is a good thing, I would presume.)
… the most successful independent film of all time was one of the Star Wars films? In 1980, George Lucas (born 1944) released The Empire Strikes Back, now the fifth in the nine-film Star Wars series. Following the success of the first (fourth) film, A New Hope, Lucas bankrolled the entire cost of the production – some $33 million – himself. The movie went on to gross more than half a billion dollars, making it the most successful independent movie. (The Force was with him.)
… childhood dreams are shorter than adult dreams? In addition, about 40% of children’s dreams are actually nightmares. Doctors say this is probably a coping mechanism. (Considering what kids have to cope with, I tend to agree.)
… you should never eat a floating egg? If you put an egg into a bowl of water and it floats, that means the egg has gone bad. A fresh egg will sink, but a “ripe” one will float. This is because the egg contains an air cell, which expands as the egg ages. A floating egg may be safe to use, but I wouldn’t. (Nor should you.)
… a popular board game was invented by an architect? Almost all of us, at one time or another, have played Scrabble™, the word game where you use letter tiles drawn at random to spell out words for points. Scrabble was invented in 1933 by Alfred Mosher Butts (1899-1993), a professional architect. Butts created the game during the Great Depression as a way to help uplift the spirits of people. He originally called the game “Lexiko,” then “Criss Cross Words,” before settling on the popular name we all know. (And love.)
???… Scrabble, ” a way to help uplift the spirits of people.” ???
A never felt uplifted when my wife- with 1/3 of my functional vocabulary- would repeatedly wipe the floor with me. She had too much Irish luck in the distribution of the vowels.
… who holds the Major League Baseball record for most ejections from games? Normally, when an umpire ejects a player or manager, it’s because they either argued too energetically or said a “magic word” that gets them tossed. But throughout MLB’s 150-plus-year history, one player and one manager found themselves getting the heave-ho more than any other. The player is Johnny Evers (1881-1947). Evers was an active player from 1902 to 1917, playing for the Chicago Cubs, Boston Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. A man who was known for his hair-trigger temper, Evers managed to rack up a total of 63 ejections from games during his career. As far as managers go, the ejection record is held by Bobby Cox (born 1941), who managed the Atlanta Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays. Cox was thumbed out of games 162 times during his managerial career. Additional trivia note: The active player with the most ejections is Bryce Harper (born 1992) of the Phillies, with 21 at the time of this writing. The active manager with the most ejections is Bruce Bochy (born 1955) of the Texas Rangers, who’s been tossed 86 times as of the day this is written. (Yer outta here!)
… the word “escalate” did not exist before 1922? As a verb, escalate – which means “to raise” or “to use an escalator” – came into existence with the invention of the escalator, or moving staircase, in the early 20th Century. The escalator itself was invented by the Otis Elevator Company in 1900, but the first recorded uses of “escalate” as a verb are found no earlier than 1922. (Well, that escalated quickly.)
The Umpire Strikes Back by Ron Luciano is a great read, and some of his stories involve Bobby Cox. Luciano tells about the time he tossed Cox before a game, before he even came out of the dugout to exchange line up cards. Something about Luciano not liking the way Cox was breathing IIRC.
… camels do not store water in their humps? Rather, it’s a special form of fat which holds nutrients that the camel lives on if there is a wide gap between meals or drinks of water. An additional value of the fat in the hump (or humps) is keeping them cool, as the fat stored in one place helps keep the animal cooler that if the fat was distributed evenly around the camel’s body. (You know what you call a camel with no hump? Humphrey.)
… four empires collapsed after World War I? Three of them were on the losing side of the war: the German empire, the Austro-Hungarian empire, and the Ottoman empire. The fourth, the Russian empire, was on the winning side. (Which, as things turned out, didn’t help them very much.)
… Cupid was not always shown as a cute, pudgy baby? Cupid was originally the Roman god of love, son of the gods Mars and Venus. In his initial depictions, Cupid was shown as a young man who sharpened his arrows on a grindstone. The change of Cupid from a man to a child took place in the Victorian era, when business owners trying to promote Valentine’s Day sales redesigned Cupid to make him more suitable to women and children. (Make of that what you will.)
Now … you know!
My uncle Bernie was the man who came up with the advertising phrase; “Good To The Last Drop”.
Unfortunately he came up with it for the Otis Elevator Company…
Actually the story is that Teddy Roosevelt coined the phrase.
Mississippi John Hurt’s “Coffee Blues” says ” a teaspoon of Maxwell House’ll do you more good than a whole cuppa that other stuff” and sings about his ‘Lovin’ Spoonful’… Yes, that is the origin of that ’60s group name.
Eggs is present – week 3 of CABG recovery!
How are you feeling?
Pretty good, just getting used to aches and pains of the repair and parts donor sites. Need to work on getting my step count up before I start phys therapy in a couple weeks 😎
Good to hear. I’ll pray for your swift recovery 🙏
Glad to see your getting back into shape. I have 3 more visits to the Dermotologist for the radiation zapping of a basil cell on my upper lip. Last one was back in 2022 on the front of my nose. Traetments leave a red circle on the impact area and Sis wanted to buy me a round red clown ball to put on the end of my nose.
So, your sister is savage? lol
Jokes aside, glad you’re doing ok, Jeff!
Thanks AH
Top ten this time, present and unaccountable as usual as I award myself yet another Honorary First.
((((OVER))))
The left is still eating itself alive, more popcorn and nachos?
Extra cheese, please 🙏 😋
Certainly, would you like some grilled onions and bacon bits on the cheese as well? Bacon makes EVERYTHING better!
Definitely BACON!!!!
Shutdown Schumer and President Trump as WOT’s opening?

Haha 🤣 😂 😆
Troll Level: MAGA Trump
WOW, that video was boss, halfway through the speaking, I said to myself that the voice sounded like Pres Trump. WOW
That comedian has been doing his spot-on Trump impression for several years. I have seen him on Guttfeld several times.
“He got arrested and it’s all your fault!” This is the most democrat thing I ever heard a democrat say. Lemme explain. Back 30 something years ago, when I was on active duty, the local county had a jobs program for low income youth. The young’uns would be hired and paid by some gov’t agency and assigned to any organization that had a job for them. It was a paid internship during summer vacation program. Anyways, the Chief told me to contact the agency and get a few of the young’uns for gopher work. I went to a meeting and the agency decided my squadron would be a good safe place to work. 3 young’uns were selected and agreed to work at my shop with me as their boss. After the meeting, I took my new workers to Burger King (it was an USAF base after all and I did pay for their lunch). My idea was to have an informal chat to explain what they were in for. I told them they had to go to the base ID office to get a visitor’s pass to allow them on base for the length of their employment. I told them to bring their forms from the county office and a picture ID. I added they will be checked for wants and warrants so if they had any they should clear them up before they went to the ID office. The next day one of the young’uns had not showed up to work. I didn’t worry too much, I figured I talk with him about when he showed up. He didn’t show up all day, so the next day, I called the county office and asked about him. The county agent told me, “He got arrested and it’s all your fault!” “Huh?”, said I. The county agent asked me if I told him to clear up any warrants before trying to get a base ID. I said I had. The county agent said it was my fault the young’un had a no bail warrant, the Police were looking for him, and… Read more »
Do you ever wonder if he got it straightened out, or just used it as a building block for a jails revolving door program or turned it into full time gig at a bigger jail.
Darn.
Got busy working.
Cong of the Rats to ya AH (no, not that one!)
May your week be filled with benevolent joy as you rule over the TAH masses.
Now where’s the grub and goodies?
Do you all remember Sharon Toney-Finch of New York who falsely claimed that she was injured and survived an IED attack on a vehicle convoy in Iraq around March 2010 and that she was a Purple Heart recipient?
She knowingly obtained hundreds of thousands of dollars in disability benefits from the VA by fraudulently representing that, during her military service in Iraq, she sustained combat-related injuries during a mortar attack in February 2010 and a vehicle rollover in March 2010.
She also made claims about assisting homeless veterans through her non-profit YIT Foundation and engaged in a scheme to defraud donors to her charitable organization by falsely claiming that donation funds would be spent solely to support homeless military veterans, when in fact she spent the funds on personal expenses, such as buying a BMW and paying for a gym membership.
In September 2021, she submitted a doctored DD214 to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, New York and was honored at a Purple Heart ceremony alongside Commissioned Military Officers. She also made an application to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles to obtain a PH license plate.
Well, this past Tuesday, she was sentenced to Federal Prison for 12 months and 1 day
with 3 years of supervised release and ordered to pay $84,000 in restitution and $85,000 in forfeiture.

https://midhudsonnews.com/2025/10/02/veteran-who-lied-about-purple-heart-and-defrauded-community-sentenced-to-prison-2/
12 months? That’s it?
And a day.
What a difference a day makes!
If I was the judge, I would have given her at least five years or more. Well at least she is now a convicted felon.
I’m sure she’ll come up with $169,000, right after she does her 1 year and 1 day.
She may be able to make that in prison 😉
So, another Friday? Hope all of you had a great week. No new updates with me other than a new diet I’m on. Trying to be healthier and lose a little extra weight I’ve been packing on. I’ve been an unhealthy eater for most of my life and, so far, I’m liking the new diet. I no longer feel as sick as I used to. So I’ll be doing my best to stick with it.
I don’t have any new history or philosophy videos to share this week, but I will share other stuff over the weekend related to politics, current events, or just because I think it’s funny.
And now to my royal decrees due to me being first again: Do NOT feed the liberal troll, Commisar. Do thank a police officer if you see one. Do NOT eat at Taco Bell. And finally, do pet a dog if you see one.
Have a great weekend!
New name for a certain group in Portland, OR: Crapping-my-pantstifa:
Fat fuck wasn’t so brave without his anarchist buddies! Cry harder!
Well, I know one thing: he’s about to become an inmate’s favorite plushie.
Looked like ALL of Meal Team Six was in that first clip…
FA/FO…
IMHO that’s typical of leftist TARDOs everywhere, they ONLY feel bold when they’re in mobs and outnumber their intended victims by about a 10 to 1 margin, but when it comes to one-on-one they’re 24K WUSSES, ditto when they get caught and held accountable for the shit they do and spew.
A member of their generation, Edward ‘Big Balls’ Coristine, puts them to shame. Stood up to a group of them, he did, proving he’s made of sterner stuff. Need more young ones like him.
👍 Like this video if you think I should post videos like this along the Tuesdays with Libs of TikTok blog article!
(4th video: there is not enough mental or eye bleach in the world to make me unsee what I saw. You’ve been warned ⚠️)
(Though it’s worth it to see the video of the harpies on The View getting trounced in a hilarious way by one of their guests 😆)
Who said Dems want tax dollars for illegals to get health care?
Oops! Never mind…
NO RUNNING AT THE POOL!

Somehow my response got on the wrong reply box.
Please see Greybeards comments below.
Lol
Found this gem (there is a scene after the watch ad):
Present & unaccountable as ever.
Except for these nerves in my back, health is great. (And the TENS device helps with that.)
Y’all see that Soros funding a “No Kings” mass demonstration in a couple of weeks? Plan and prepare accordingly.
I had to work during the last one, and uncertain about how… enthusiastic… some of the attendees might become I asked Mr. Mossburg to come along for the day. Fortunately (that time) most were old, fat white people, but there was one kid wrapped up in a pro-Palestine head rag. But no one came to join him so he just sat around and moped.
LOL!!!!!
Oh my GOD! The one with the DOG!!!
Sorry, this was meant for AH “No Running At The Pool”…
Lol
LOL
So, just had an interesting thought exercise pop into my head:
If there was a world where democracy or constitutional republican government didn’t exist, which form of government would you prefer to live under and why?
A. Monarchy
B. Aristocracy
C. Tribal government
D. Fascist/dictatorial
E. Some form of corporate/merchant government
F. Communist (I expect no yeas for this. Well…except for Commisar)
G. Other (please specify)
G. Christian Theocracy
I get where you’re coming from GB, but that option brings to mind Salem witch trials, and the Spanish Inquisition…
Also, the Crusades, but that is more of a plus than a negative.
Another Trump Trolling video he posted on X…8 seconds that will make you laugh! 😆

On the bright side, my job is considered essential so the troops still get the support they need to continue training and don’t have to leave the field. Now I just got to see how many days I have to work before I get paid again. This is the reason why Household 6 and I plan ahead. I’m currently doing 6 days a week because we lost a couple of people and with the hiring freeze there is three of us providing 24/7 coverage. I’m not complaining though because I love my job. I still get to work with the troops and every single person that works here is a vet.
Three days ago was the 11 year anniversary of my retirement from the Army. It seems like yesterday that I was leading troops and kicking in doors in Iraq. I think fondly of where I retired out of. My last duty station was Camp Atterbury, IN where I was one of about 50-100 active duty Soldiers stationed there. It’s where they sent those of us with multiple combat tours to train the NG/Reserve Soldiers that were deploying as well as to take a break ourselves. What I think is really neat about it is that I retired out of the very same National Guard base that my Grandfather deployed to WWII out of.
I wonder how many of these we actually have on the payroll, regardless of department.

Funny but highly likely.
Happy weekend!
Top 80.
