Uber driver killed in road rage incident; police await DA’s decision on self-defense claim

by Tiffany Lane
Las Vegas (KSNV) — Las Vegas police say a road rage shooting outside Palazzo is being investigated as possible self-defense.

The incident Monday led to a deadly shooting, killing an Uber driver.

Metro Police say the woman who shot and killed the Uber driver is not in custody and that Metro Police have sent the investigation to the Clark County District Attorney’s office for review to decide if this was an incident of self-defense.

Police say on Monday around 4 p.m. a woman in her 20s and an Uber driver got into a road rage incident spanning about a quarter of a mile.

The Uber driver, a man in his 50’s, had two passengers with him while the incident unfolded.

“When both cars come to a stop, our victim exited his vehicle, approached the suspect car, banged on the driver’s side, with glass possibly,” said Lt. Jason Johansson, of the LVMPD Homicide Unit during a news conference on Monday night.

Police say that’s when the woman shot the man.

“At which point in time he himself was armed, and he produced a firearm, but he collapsed pretty quickly after- right after he took fire,” said Johansson.

“Nevada law allows a person to use deadly force to protect themselves when they are in actual and reasonable fear for their life or safety,” said Roger. “And they don’t have – a person doesn’t have an obligation to retreat. So, they don’t have to run away.”

Roger says stand your ground in Nevada can apply anywhere, from your home, the street, and your car.

“If you’re in your vehicle, you know you can use deadly force if it’s appropriate, under the circumstances,” he said. “You don’t have to screech through traffic to get away. Now, it would be advisable if you could do that. but Nevada law doesn’t require you to do that.”

When it comes to Monday’s road rage incident, News 3 asked Uber about gun laws when it comes to drivers since the man who was shot also had a firearm.

Uber policy doesn’t allow firearms for passengers or drivers while using the app.

Thieves shot by victim after robbery near Memphis motel, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two robbers ended up in the hospital after being shot by the person they were trying to rob, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Memphis Police responded to calls of shots fired just after 6:15 a.m. Friday at the Classic Inn on American Way. Officers arrived to find a man and woman with gunshot wounds near the motel entrance.

Less than ten minutes later, police were called to a nearby home on Fairbrook Avenue, where a third person involved had fled for help.

MPD reports the violence started as an attempted robbery. According to investigators, the female suspect lured the male victim to her car, where she and a second suspect tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Police said the victim managed to grab one of the suspect’s guns and shoot both alleged robbers. Both were transported to Regional One in critical condition.

I’ll not speculate on motives here, and as a general rule one shouldn’t count on the kindness of strangers and bring your own firearm. Thanks, Gun Bunny.

Had to read about 1/3 of the first story to figure out that the female shooter wasn’t a passenger of the Uber (now “unter”) driver.
But, yeah, unless there’s been a collision/accident/a meeting of metal, a road rage incident serves no positive purpose.
I disagree with Uber’s “no gun” policy. As a citizen, I want to be able to protect myself, as driver or passenger. Punishments should fit the action. If I carry, and no one knows, what’s the beef?

So do we now add “passengers” to The Book? (TN2B2AGF) Notice, too, the PoPo referred to the DRT as the “victim”? I had to caution Baby Sister several times on my Round Robin trip this past week to NOT get mad at no driving dumbasses and flip them off. I only had two (2) firearms and sixty (60) rounds of ammo easily accessible.

Gotta wonder what the Memphis Ms Thang used to “lure” her potential victim to her car? If you gonna think with your “gun” head, better to have your own firearm handy ’cause as Our Beloved AW1Ed pointed out, you can’t always depend on your assailant loaning you theirs. Memphis… *sigh* Chicongo South.

I will defend my liberty until my heart stops.

Probably referring to the size of the dovetail, I am guessing.

Following strange women to a car is not wise, and certainly thinking with the wrong head.
Wondering if he has a significant other who would be displeased with him being lured by such a woman?
