Happy Birthday Coast Guard!

| August 4, 2022

Day at the Office

Sent from many. Happy Birthday, Puddle Pirates- 232 years young.

August 4 is celebrated as the U.S. Coast Guard Birthday, commemorating the military organization for its valor and discipline. Since 1790, the U.S. Coast Guard has kept the nation’s waterways safe, playing a critical role in national security.

The U.S. Coast Guard patrols our coasts for drug smugglers, human trafficking and both domestic and international terrorism. As the bad guys (and girls) have gotten more savvy with technology, the Coast Guard has developed sophisticated, effective technology to combat crimes on the water and at our ports. It’s a 24/7 job. Today, let’s give the U.S. Coast Guard the love it deserves.

We josh, but much respect, Coast Guard. As they say, you have to go. You don’t have to come back.

Six foot minimum height requirement to enlist, so you can walk to shore when your boat sinks.

Saw Frankie Ford sing Sea Cruise on the Ace label 1959 years ago in the Nassau County Colliseaum.(80’s or 90’s) Huey “Piano” Smith and his Clowns originaly wrote and sang the song but Frankie did his own and got the credit.

Happy birthday, Coasties!

We had the chance to see them in action once in Galveston – we were camping on the grounds at the station when a shrimper became disabled in the ferry lane, the ferry came around the bend and hit the shrimper, driving it onto shore.

Watching the Coasties jump into action from a front-row seat was a thrill.

Happy Birthday Puddle Pirates. You may not have to come back, but we sure want you to!

Don Winslow would be proud today if he was still around

I read somewhere that if you see a Coast Guard cutter fleeing something in the water, follow it. If it scares a Coastie, you have no chance whatsoever.

While volunteering at Ft Flagler State Park in Washington I was able to help and watch the Coasties train with helo ops. I am glad those folks are around and wish them all the best. May God watch over those who risk it all for others.
