Weekend Open Thread

A “jackpot” of evidence behind unusual events and activities related to Joe Biden. Media goes “crickets”. Biden shows signs that he may not be fit for his position. Nancy Pelosi not consistently screaming about the 25th Amendment. Look at the different ways Republicans and Democrats are treated to see the lack of seriousness and honesty among many in the “elite class”. Enjoy your weekend!

AMMO!!!!
Thanks for the reminder Roh-Dog.
I have been remis many of the previous Fridays on the WOT of my self imposed duties.

Here’s there Ammoseek.com listing of today…(with my standard picks) I was surprised that I haven’t logged in, in a couple of weeks and all the prices here had triggered below my thresholds in the last 2 weeks, so I reset them so these are today’s prices but they’ve dipped below in the last couple of weeks.

My Main Man! Another Coveted FIRST on the EARNED NEVER AWARDED TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread. Sneaking into the closet on Dave’s Boat on evening last where the servers are located not only gave you the chance to embed your FIRST into the data base, you prolly got a good look at the frilly under things of the Soviet and help Hack Stone come out of the closet. Have a Cong Rat light your seegar and fetch you a frosty refreshing beverage.

Commissioner Wretched

Well, having lost out again on the coveted FIRST (h/t Roh Dog), I leave you with a very special trivia column. It took a long time to get to this one. Enjoy!

DID YOU KNOW…?
Column 300! And the sky is the limit!
By Commissioner Wretched
didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com

Wow, can you believe it? We’re already into August! And that’s not all!

We’re now up to Column Number 300!

Yes, three hundred weeks ago, back in October of 2016, I started this little weekly exercise in trivia-sharing. At first I wondered if this would last … then I wondered how long it would last … and somewhere in there was an additional worry that I’d run out of trivia to share.

It seems that I now have the answers to those issues. Yes, the column will last … it will last as long as you want to read it … and there seems to be no chance whatsoever of running out of trivia. It’s even spawned a book!

Commissioner Wretched

Thank you, one and all, for your loyal readership of this silly stuff. Those who’ve been with me the entire ride, you have no idea how much that means to me. And those who’ve joined in the recent past, you have no idea how much you mean to me.

I love you all.

Now, with my deepest appreciation, on to the 300th “Did You Know…?” column!

Did you know …

… the original recipe for chocolate contained chili powder instead of sugar? Cocoa and chili powder were the first blend to be called chocolate, though replacing the chili powder with sugar made the concoction much more palatable. (Gives a new meaning to “hot” chocolate, doesn’t it?)

AW1Ed

A little semi-sweet chocolate is a secret ingredient in my chili. Adds a nice rich background note, not chocolate-y at all.

Roh-Dog

Or, it can be at the fore deliciously as in:

th-53246468.jpeg
poetrooper

Chocolate? But no cilantro?

Sheez, culinary carpetbaggers… 🙄

poetrooper

Mexicans have been combining chiles and chocolate for centuries in a sauce called mole (molay):

Mole (sauce) – Wikipedia

Tends to be an acquired taste…

Commissioner Wretched

… a giraffe’s heart weighs 25 pounds? A fully-grown male giraffe can stand up to 18 feet tall and weigh up to 4,200 pounds. Their hearts have to be large, powerful organs to pump blood up those long necks to their brains, and a 25-pound muscle is needed to handle the big job. (I really stuck my neck out on that item, didn’t I?)

… humans are unable to walk in a straight line without help? If there are no visual reference points, a person will curve to the right or left. When blindfolded, humans eventually walk in circles. (The sheer number of jokes I can make from this item is staggering.)

… the inventor of the telephone never used it to call his mother or his wife? Alexander Graham Bell (1847-1922) patented the first viable telephone in 1876, but he could not call his wife Mabel (1857-1923) or his mother Elizabeth Grace Symonds Bell (1809-1897) on the device. Both were deaf.

A Proud Infidel®™

“When blindfolded, humans eventually walk in circles.”

That was proven on Mythbusters!

Graybeard

I’ve proved it walking in the woods.
First time I thought I was heading back to deer camp (mid-teens) and wound up close to where I’d left my brother.
Oops.

Commissioner Wretched

… the way you eat a particular brand of cookie says something about your personality? In 2004, Kraft Foods surveyed two thousand people who eat Oreos™ to determine pertinent facts about them. The survey showed that biters – those who just chomp into the cookie – are easy-going and self-confident; dunkers – people who dip their cookie in milk before eating it – are more energetic and adventurous; and twisters – the people who pull the Oreo apart before consuming – are sensitive and trendy. (They don’t mention my way … grabbing handfuls and stuffing them into my mouth. Wonder what that makes me? Oh, shut up.)

… you can major in wine at Cornell University? Okay, they don’t call the degree a “Bachelor of Wine” or anything like that. The degree is actually in viticulture and enology, or the cultivation of grapes and the science of winemaking. Call it what you will, it’s a degree in booze. (Bachelor of Booze … I like the sound of that.)

Commissioner Wretched

… the most popular state bird is the Northern cardinal? Six states – Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia – call the Northern cardinal their state bird. (Oddly, Missouri doesn’t. But then, we’re talking Northern cardinal, not St. Louis Cardinal.)

… the popular board game Risk™ was created in France? Developed in 1957 by French filmmaker Albert Lamorisse (1922-1970), the game was initially called La Conquête du Monde, or The Conquest of the World. The game is one of “diplomacy, conflict and conquest” and ends only when one player has successfully conquered the armies of other players and taken over the world. The name was changed to Risk when it was purchased by the American game company Parker Brothers in 1959. (A great game for all you little wanna-be dictators out there!)

ninja

The game “Risk” is fun!

So is “Monopoly”, “Clue”, “The Game of Life”, “Scrabble”, “UNO”, Chess, Checkers, “Battleship”…too many out there!

Thanks for sharing, CW!

Commissioner Wretched

A reader of my book is working to adapt it into a card/parlor game. I am very honored!

AW1Ed

Cong-rats, CW! I’ll take set.

Commissioner Wretched

If it works out that it happens, I’ll make sure you get one!

AW1Ed

This Northern Cardinal identifies as male.

Commissioner Wretched

… hot dogs were first put into buns because of their temperature? Coming, as they say, “hot off the grill,” the frankfurters were burning the fingers of customers. So an enterprising wiener vendor named Charles Feltman (1841-1910) conceived the idea of wrapping the dog in bread … and an American food icon was born. (And frank-ly speaking, it was a good idea. Hot dog!)

… an ancient conqueror was talked out of killing all of his enemies by a teacher? Genghis Khan (1162-1227) had as his chief advisor a captured scholar named Yelü Chucai (1190-1244). Chucai convinced the Mongol leader that it would be much more advantageous for the Mongols to not kill all the people they conquered, but rather to tax them. Chucai’s advice led to Genghis Khan becoming one of the richest conquerors in history. (And, incidentally, allowing him to have people to rule over, as well.)

Commissioner Wretched

… the first NFL player to rush for 1,000 yards in a season did so in 1934? Beattie Feathers (1908-1979) played for the Chicago Bears that season and was the first player to rush for 1,000 yards or more in a single season. Feathers’ 1934 season average of 8.44 yards per attempt remains the NFL record for a minimum of 100 carries.

… a tiger’s tongue is pretty rough? Yes, we know all cats have rough tongues. But the sandpaper quality of a tiger’s tongue is such that it can actually strip paint off of a building. (I have to ask … is that a guess, or did they actually try to get a tiger to lick a building?)

Now … you know!

ninja

Thank You for another great week of Trivia, CW!

Keep Em Coming!!

Hack Stone

Hack Stone may not be first commenter for TAH Weekend Open Thread, but Magic 8-Ball says that Phil Monkress of All Points Logistics will most definitely be working balls this weekend.

Oh magic and all-seeing 8-Ball: will Ranger Stephen “Cio” Burrell (the 4th toughest man in the world) and Turd Bolling of Ambassador Worldwide Protection Agency (both national and international) be helping him out?

Hack Stone

Crybaby Steve Burrell had a website whining about the mean things the Adorable Deplorables wrote about him. Hack was just glad to finally get some well deserved recognition. Found a Linked In profile while trying to locate Gunny Driveway’s contact, as Hack needed some paint driven around South Jersey.

Deckie

Burrell has this now:

Not sure if anyone has seen it yet.

RGR 4-78

Cio is totally deluded or an unrepentant liar.

Hack Stone

And here we thought he spent his free time getting his ass kicked in jail. What are the odds that the fourth most dangerous man in the world had the third most dangerous man in the world as cell mate.

Green Thumb

Burrell is a very large and demented Turd. 4th biggest shitbag in the world.

I wonder where old Reginal Henson is these days.

Probably teaching at All-Points Logistics.

A Proud Infidel®™

“Records released reveal Burrell as former C.I.A. operative and case officer. In addition Stephen Franklin Cio Burrell held diverse responsibilities in Washington, DC, from 1972 to 1990. Burrell was a statistical data analysis and operative and responsible for insurgent control. He served as a C.I.A. operative and a case officer both in Vietnam, Iran and Europe. In addition to he was ‘recruited’ out of high school and while in college he was involved in a clandestine / domestic operation ‘Family Jewels.’ Also with experience as a U.S. Army Ranger and Captain in the U.S. Army, Stephen Cio Burrell participated in Operation Phoenix, 5th Infantry Group, Air America in the Vietnam War. While in Europe he was involved with ‘The Voice America’ and recruitment with America University of Beirut. On three separate occasions Burrell was seriously wounded which earned him a Purple Heart and a Silver Star as well CIA award ‘Intelligence Star.'”

I HAD to turn my Acme® Bullshit Detector™ off!

Claw

Yep, he did a total of 281 days active duty (9 Apr 74 to 15 Jan 75) before being discharged as a Buck Private. Wonder what he was doing when his draft lottery number of 038 was drawn in 1971 and he didn’t go in until April 1974.

How come no one put me in for first while I was on the recliner gabbing a nooner. Two more visits to getting my nose zapped by radiation at the Dermotoligst. Sure beats the MOHS slice and dice I had back in 2017 on the port side of my nose. Have a great weekend everyone. Off to the Mall to get another DooWopp University tee shirt made up since the old one is fading faster than a mail bag at a train whistle stop.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

“Grabbing a nooner”.
I do not think that means what you think it means.

Today, 5 August, In History:

In 1981, Ronald Reagan Fired More Than 11,000 Air Traffic Controllers Who Were On Strike

In 1962, Marilyn Monroe passed away in Los Angeles, CA.

In 1963, the United States, the Soviet Union and the United Kingdom signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty in Moscow.

In 1957, “American Bandstand: with Dick Clark began airing nationally.

In 1930, Neil Armstrong was born.

Tomorrow, on 6 August, it will be 77 years since the Atomic Bond was dropped on Hiroshima. On 9 August, it will be 77 years the Atomic Bond was dropped on Nagasaki.

Thunderstixx

This should be mostly correct. Pardon me if I did make a mistake, I’m not infallible, I am, however the best looking poster on this Milblog of all Milblogs !!!
…August 6, 1945, Hiroshima Japan was obliterated with the dropping of the first nuclear warhead named “Little Boy” by the staff at the Los Alamos Nuclear Weapons laboratory.
In 3 days the city of Nagasaki was also bombed by the bomb name “Fat Man” with similar results. Both cities were home to large war production and garrison duties.
Little Boy was a Uranium gun design that achieved the uncontrolled nuclear reaction by firing a uranium slug into another piece of uranium. Fat Man was a plutonium implosion design weapon that was a more efficient use of the energy than the gun design.
The previous month, July 16, at 05:29:45 AM the world became an entirely different world than it was for the previous thousands of years of civilization when the Trinity Test of “The Gadget” brought the world into the Nuclear Age.

Thunderstixx

As most of my classmates are, we were born ten years after the nuclear blasts and subsequent signature of the Instrument of Surrender on the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, on September 2, 1945 under the direction of US General of the Army Douglas MacArthur bringing to the end, the most incredible, wholesale, destructive period of warfare in the history of civilization.
27,000 people a day were killed on average and the war touched all continents except Antarctica.

Thunderstixx

About 60-70 million people in total were killed with about 70% of them being civilians from all walks of life. The Axis powers were the largest murderers of civilians, but, the Allies also killed several million in huge air raids on civilian population centers.
Thank God Almighty that since that war ended, there have been no more wars that encompass that much destruction.
I pray for all the souls on all sides that fought and died in that incredible conflagration.
I pray the Rosary, because the world needs prayers.

Atomic Bomb 2.jpg
Thunderstixx

Stalin, actually killed more Soviet Citizens than Hitler did…
The Soviets suffered the worst death rate of the rest of the Allies combined…
Yes, we need socialism to be tried again…

ninja

Another Classic.

4 minutes.

“Elvis Presley – An American Trilogy (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973)”

“The American Trilogy” is comprised of excerpts from the songs ” “Dixieland”, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “All My Trials”

We had the opportunity to see Elvis in concert in 1976. Little did we know he would pass away a year later on 16 August 1977 from prescription abuse. It was bittersweet watching and listening to him perform. Elvis had to put on reading glasses to read the lyrics to songs he was singing. And yes, his jumpsuit was a bit tight. However, he still was entertaining…and moving, especially when he performed “The American Trilogy.”

Enjoy. We Did.

ninja

Our own Jeff the Punster and others may remember this popular dance craze, “THE STROLL”, that was featured on the TV show “American Bandstand” around 1957.

After watching this 3 minute video, it finally dawned on us where “Soul Train” came up with their group dancing…

Back in the GB Compound.
For those wondering, the oncology Doc was very pleased with the lab results. PSA down from mid 7’s to 2.1 – and should keep dropping. They’ll be watching it the next couple of years at least.
T levels very low, but the exercise routine I’m on should bring them up gradually. In the interim, my endurance may be less than I’d like.

My brother in the St. Louis area lost all he had to a flood – while we’re so dry that we’re concerned about wildfires. He will be able to save his tools, some clothes, and hopefully his golf clubs. His kids are all close to help him out, but this is like the 3rd or 4th time he has had to start over.

Question – Is this Police Department page
on the Book of the Fake POOF?

Or, is it there,
and a police department blocked me??

Is a PD even allowed to block users from a public PD page?

Yes, it’s the same PD,
where the police chief is good personal friends with

https://www.facebook.com/PendletonPD

The page appears to be gone. Can’t think of any reason why they couldn’t block you if they wanted to.

There is no statue requirement for any police agency to have a Facebook page or provide any particular service to the public on such a page. They do have their own page, again no requirement for that either.

5JC,
Thanks.
Understood,
but it’s odd that any PD would POOF a PD FB page,
which is a public service.

Unless….
the page had too many comments about the police chief’s friend,
that the PD was NOT allowed to delete.
Can’t delete the comments, delete the whole public page.

Police chief isn’t the only 1 in Pendleton, Indiana
playing phony enabler, and dodging for Cole.

Boy Scouts, too.
I now have 3 Scouting officials (2 district, 1 council)
who do not reply (Summer 2022) to questions
about their decisions and actions on Cole.

THIS post received a new question comment,
with links and photos to Phony Cole.
(screenshots sent to VG admin),
Instead of replying,
this Scouting volunteer DELETED his post.
No answers to the questions.
Just POOF.

It appears, the Boy Scouts did send Cole packing…..
and now want to bury that chapter.
With silence. And deleting.

Between PPD and BSA,
no one will acknowledge Cole is a PHONY.

Here is an interesting factoid on San Fran Nan’s visit to Taipei, Taiwan. She was accompanied by her adult son, Paul Pelosi, Jr. I wonder what money was to be made in Taiwan for the family finances. Undoubtedly, he wasn’t on the trip to advise on the island’s defenses in case of a ChiCom attack.

A Proud Infidel®™

Malig-Nancy Pelosi does NOTHONG for anyone unless she profits from it, she learned that from her Dad when he was the Mayor of Baltimore. That was back in the day when one would have to “benefit” him for a good job or any favors and the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree and I’m sure that it’s going to be some kind of deal where her Son makes money like Hunter did from Burisma!
