Women’s Draft Registration is Back

| June 28, 2022

David sends us the news that the requirement for women’s draft registration is in the new National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The measure died behind closed doors last year, but is back.

Not everyone is behind this.

Requirement for Women to Register for the Draft Back on the Table in Annual Defense Bill

Rebecca Kheel

A fight over whether women should be required to register for a potential draft has been revived in Congress.

Last year, Congress appeared on the precipice of making women register with what’s formally called the Selective Service System, but the idea was dropped from the defense policy bill signed into law after closed-door House-Senate negotiations despite having bipartisan support.

Now, the proposal is back in the version of the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, making its way through the Senate, and conservatives are again vowing a fierce fight against what they refer to as “drafting our daughters.”

The U.S. military has not drafted anyone since the Vietnam War, and defense officials have repeatedly said they have no intention of moving away from the all-volunteer force.

But men ages 18 through 25 still have to register for Selective Service in case of an emergency catastrophic enough to activate the draft. If they fail to register, men face consequences such as losing access to federal financial aid for college.

Earlier this month, the Senate Armed Services Committee voted 20-6 to require women to register for the draft as part of its version of this year’s NDAA.

Yahoo News

I’d argue the rational for a draft died with the all-volunteer force, but if we have one may as well register all who are of age to serve. Thanks, David.

Nine recycles. But no draft.

No differences in biological sexes and their performance. But no draft.

Equal work, equal pay. But no draft.

How dare you!

Next you’ll be calling for a repeal of the 19th Amendment, misogynist!

O’real, the big ugly hammer of equity*:

…typically referred to as shareholders’ equity (or owners’ equity for privately held companies), represents the amount of money that would be returned to a company’s shareholders if all of the assets were liquidated and all of the company’s debt was paid off in the case of liquidation. In the case of acquisition, it is the value of company sales minus any liabilities owed by the company not transferred with the sale.

In addition, shareholder equity can represent the book value of a company. Equity can sometimes be offered as payment-in-kind. It also represents the pro-rata ownership of a company’s shares. -Investopedia

I can’t read the words “HOW DARE YOU” in my own voice. I can only hear those words in the voice of that little retarded, chubby cheek girl.

Anyone else suffer from this?

I’d declare you 4-F for that crippling case of Freedomitis caused by over half of the college degree recipients being female and the government manipulating them into voting Commie with the promise of your money.

No Ukrai Nam for you, Bud.

Nobody needs toxic masculinity until they need toxic masculinity.

The afternoon drive time show on WMAL was discussing the Army lowering enlistment standards because they can’t meet recruiting goals. They spoke to a scholar on the military who said that anyone who would enlist to serve as a door kicker doesn’t want anything to do with the the Woke Military. No way would Hack Stone recommend todays military to anyone willing to serve.

Israel Defense Force.

Since 1948, i.e. about 74 years…and still going strong.

How ironic… 😉 😎

“The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.”

Many states have their own state militia law. In Virginia, all able-bodied residents 16-55, with exceptions, are members of the Virginia Militia:

§ 44-1. Composition of militia.

The militia of the Commonwealth of Virginia shall consist of all able-bodied residents of the Commonwealth who are citizens of the United States and all other able-bodied persons resident in the Commonwealth who have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, who are at least 16 years of age and, except as hereinafter provided, not more than 55 years of age. The militia shall be divided into three classes: the National Guard, which includes the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard; the Virginia Defense Force; and the unorganized militia.

Just looked it up for my state. “All able-bodied citizens of the state.” Very progressive, the words “man” or “woman” don’t appear at all.

Restarting the draft, not just registering, will help enlistments. Think of the choices facing a young him/her (pronouns matter). Get drafted- no enlistment bonus. If the odds indicate a young he/she may get drafted, enlist and get the current bonus.

Selective Service System, Frequently Asked Questions:

https://www.sss.gov/faq/

Why Aren’t Women Required to Register?
The Law
Selective Service law as it’s written now refers specifically to “male persons” in stating who must register and who would be drafted. For women to be required to register with Selective Service, Congress would have to amend the law.

The Supreme Court
The constitutionality of excluding women was tested in the courts. A Supreme Court decision in 1981, Rostker v. Goldberg, held that registering only men did not violate the due process clause of the Constitution.

Is A Military Draft Constitutional?

Article I, Section 8, Clause 12 of the United States Constitution: “The Congress shall have Power To …raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years….”
The constitutionality of the Military Selective Service Act has been consistently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. As was stated by the Court in the case of Wayte v. United States, 470 U.S. 598 (1985), “Few interests can be more compelling than a nation’s need to ensure its own security. It is well to remember that freedom as we know it has been suppressed in many countries. Unless a society has the capability and will to defend itself from the aggressions of others, constitutional protections of any sort have little meaning.

ninja

Recognizing this fact, the Framers listed “provid[ing] for the common defense,…, as a motivating purpose for the Constitution and granted Congress the power to “provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States,” Art. I, 8, cl. 1. “In United States v. O’Brien, 391 U.S. 367, 377 (1968), quoting Lichter v. United States, 334 U.S. 742, 756, the Court wrote, ” the power … to classify and conscript manpower for military service is `beyond question.”

Roh-Dog

“…defend itself from the aggressions of others…”

It’s kinda strange that a lot of draftees have been called upon to defend the US in ‘not-the-US countries’ against countries that never aggressed us.

but thats none of my business

Misuse of the military is a separate issue.

Everybody registers, or nobody registers. It’s that simple. Can’t get any more equal.

Yep

Make the women register.

Then the liberal women/transgenders can burn their draft cards at the same time they are burning their bras.

1969.

For those of us old enough to remember…when the draft was active…

We have really come a long way…. 😶

How many of those kids went off to engineer bombs, work in thinktanks, and voted for candidates that would drop bombs on a whole different group of brown people?

Spot on…😉 The mid/late 60s, early 70s..

So hard to believe that happened 54 years ago…We really HAVE come a long way..

We had family who were boots on the ground during that timeframe. .and older high school classmates..We still remember those Draft Numbers. And some of those family members were boots on the ground 1950-1953 in a far-away place call Korea…

A BIG Salute to our Veterans who served in the Vietnam Era…boots or no boots on the ground..and Korea…

A couple of you are here on TAH…or had a parent/sibling/family/friends who served during those two timeframes..We know who you are..

Hoo-Aaahhh…👏👏👏👏 Thank You..

Hypocrisy and murder are neck-and-neck for first in my hierarchy of revulsion.

Too many in the ‘peace and love’ crowd inherited a different schema in the 80’s when they turned into young mid-aged kleptocraps.

In 1967, my dad, uncle, and brother-in-law were all in Vietnam. I remember my oldest sister’s classmates that didn’t come home. I was 5, I really didn’t understand. Sometimes I still don’t.

Nancy Hart herself killed British Regulars and Tories with equal enthusiasm. I also think there are prices too high to pay to save the United States. Conscription is one of them. Conscription is slavery, and I don’t think that any people or nation has a right to save itself at the price of slavery for anyone, no matter what name it is called If a country can’t save itself through the volunteer service of its own free people, then I say: Let the damned thing go down the drain!
