One burglary suspect dead; second who fled scene remains at large

By Danielle Wallace
A Los Angeles area homeowner took matters into his own hands to defend himself and his wife early Saturday when authorities say he shot and killed one of two suspected burglars who broke into their home overnight.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded to reports of a burglary happening around 4 a.m. in the 20000 block of East Country Hollow Drive in Walnut, in eastern Los Angeles County.

A 27-year-old man and his 26-year-old wife said they heard footsteps and went to investigate the noise.

Man killed in officer-involved shooting in Washington County

Taylor Spirito
Police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead in Washington County on Saturday.

According to police, troopers responded to a Washington County mall for a report of a theft from Rural King. Police gathered information on the suspect’s car that fled the scene. A trooper saw the car in Mount Pleasant Township and conducted a traffic stop at Westland Road at Main Street.

Police said the driver was taken into custody during the traffic stop but the passenger, identified as 26-year-old Dennis Fonoimoana by the Washington County Coroner’s Office, refused to exit the car. Fonoimoana brandished a firearm during a verbal fight with the Trooper, also refusing to drop the gun when told to.

Off topic, but strategypage.com had a reminder on their “This Day in Military History” page that the USS Squalus sank on this day in 1939 with 26 fatalities. Thirty-three survivors were rescued the next day from 240 feet of water via diving bell. Finding a photo of American Marines for the story about American enlisted servicemen and women, was out of the question?
