Audit Reveals Half of Biden’s Twitter Followers are Fake Accounts
The DailyMail.com published an article claiming that nearly half (49.3%) of Biden’s followers on Twitter are fake accounts.
Nearly half of President Joe Biden’s 22.3 million Twitter followers are fake, a new analysis revealed on Wednesday.
The report comes as Tesla founder Elon Musk pumped the breaks on his $44 billion purchase of the social media platform over concerns about the amount of bots active on the site.
Inauthentic Twitter accounts, known colloquially as bots, operate to mimic human interaction on the platform in order to achieve a specific goal.
Some were designed to give people immediate data on things like the stock market and traffic updates, while others were used for more sinister applications such as spreading misinformation online or scamming people out of money.
Roughly 11 million followers of the US president’s official Twitter handle, @POTUS, are either bots or inactive accounts, according to an analysis by Spark Toro.
That’s 49.3 percent of Biden’s total followers on his White House account.

But Biden’s personal Twitter account doesn’t fare much better than the presidential handle.
More than 32 million people follow the president at @JoeBiden, 43 percent of which are reportedly fake.
It’s more fake followers than those linked to the @POTUS account – approximately 14.6 million.
Twitter has about 229 million daily users, according to the company’s own data. The platform has long held that no more than five percent of its accounts are bots or spam.
So, let’s do the math – Twitter claims less than 5% are fake and Musk claims it is closer to 20%.
11 million (@POTUS account) + 14.6 million (@JoeBiden personal account) = 25.6 million divided by 229 million total users and it comes out to 11%. That is easily above the 5% claim ONLY considering the POTUS and JoeBiden accounts. Where there’s smoke there’s fire.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the media. Twitter will probably say “A million here, a million there… what’s the big deal?”
I wonder if some at Twitter were aware of this and that lead to the anxiety surrounding a buyout from Musk.

There are plenty of valid complaints about the methodology used, but it’s the same used to assess Biden’s followers, so in so far as it carries any weight there, it’s likely applicable elsewhere. (I don’t personally think it should carry much weight there, other than to say there are lots of inactive and fake accounts on Twitter, and quantifying that is hard.)

Given that president dementia is pretty much nothing but a biological bot himself (or is it “itself”) I am not surprised that there is fraudulent activity regarding his (it’s) followers.
The 61% claimed on the Trump acute (or any values used by SparkToro), include accounts that are no longer actively used. I don’t think those figures should be used because it skews the Bot argument by including unused/inactive accounts.
