Reno police: Intruder killed in self defense

By Steve Timko and Ashley Grams
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -A man is dead and the Reno Police Department said it appears a homeowner killed him in self defense.
It happened Saturday about 9:45 p.m. in the 2000 block of Idlewild Drive near Idlewild Park.

Police said the homeowner reported having shot an intruder. When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound who was pronounced dead at the scene, along with the homeowner and a witness.

Robbery/homicide detectives took over the investigation.

Many neighbors described the area as quiet and were surprised to hear about the investigation.

“Everyone here usually has each other’s backs too,” said Adam Thompson. “It’s a very communal neighborhood.”

“Kind of shocked because that usually doesn’t happen in this neighborhood at all, ”said Joe Malfa, a nearby resident since 1980.

“The homeowner in this incident is cooperating with the investigation,” police said in a statement. “At this time an arrest will not be made as this appears to be in defense of himself.”

Man claims self-defense after shooting break-in suspect

He’s got a gun- he threatened to shoot me in the face because my dog bit him!”

An Evansville family is still shaken after they say a man tried to break into their apartment over the weekend.

Police responded to reports of a man with a gun breaking into an apartment in the 400 block of Kimber Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The woman who lives at the apartment agreed to talk to us as long as we hide her identity. She says her family was spending the day together when she heard a man trying to break in.

“My kids were screaming. I had three kids in the house screaming. We tried to tell him to stop beating on the door, and he didn’t listen,” she says.

She says the man never got into the apartment, but he did break several windows and threatened to shoot her. So she ran upstairs and got her fiancé.

Mr Reno Homeowner is a GO at this station, no need for further practice or range time.

I’m willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that the Evansville deceased perp was an irate ex-boyfriend. Emphasis on the “ex”, two definitions.

And……shot……on Kimber Lane? Really!? You can’t make this stuff up.

Here at Firebass Magnolia, Khar Kauseway leads to Taurus Trail, which now turns into Kimber Lane, #1911. Turn right at Shotgun St.

A normally quiet neighborhood is no guarantee of safety – but it is hard to remember that and stay in Condition Yellow.

It may remain quiet for a while longer now that the homeowner has demonstrated the consequences of misbehavior in their ‘hood.

Not enough info on the Kimber Lane dog bite situation – but the perp seems to have deserved what he got. Hope the dog doesn’t get sick from biting him.

Poor dog had to lick his ass for an hour to get the guys taste out of his mouth. Who’s a good boy?

Interesting KelTec. Bet the lightweight one kicks hard… Mr. Newton’s laws are pretty much non-negotiable. I remember selling their PMR30’s – almost had to open the plastic case to visually determine if the (plastic) gun was inside. Definitely the Rodney Dangerfield of gun companies.

And you and I BOTH…great minds think alike….I was JUST asking….LOL 😀

NRA Mag American Rifleman mentioned that Kel-Tec thinks out of the box with some of their designs.

Funny you post a Kel Tec. I’ve heard good and bad things about them in my vast experience as someone who has handled weapons once or twice.
They’re inexpensive (not “cheap”) but better than NO gun. They do have a different engineering take and a unique grip pattern which screams “Kel Tec” whenever I see them.
They’re by no means a Hi-Point. *grin* 😀
What say you guys about Kel-Tec??

Got; P32, PF9 and Sub2000 Gen1 in 40SW Glock 22 mag version.
All good to go. The P32 is so nasty, with barely sights at all and a llllllloooooooonnnnnnngggggg trigger it’ll still drop sub paper plate sized groups at 20 or so yards. “‘Sniper pistol”‘
I understand there are bad examples from KT but one constant I hear is customer service is exceptional. Never had to use it, so….
Generally I believe some of what they do is gimmicky, but the industry as a whole tends to tack with KT, not against. That ‘lone gets them an ‘A’ in my grading schema.

Own an SU16 (which dropped 2 deer this year) my second P3AT, and previously had a P32. Needed to replace mainspring on the P32, they sent the whole assembly free. Great service, all have been 100% reliable. Never understood why Ruger gets acclaim for the LCP when it’s basically a P3AT clone. I
