Navy Helo Mishap

| January 13, 2022

A Navy helo made an emergency landing in Isle of Wright County, Virginia yesterday. Fortunately crew injuries were minor in nature. Having been both a fling and fixed wing flyer, helos have an advantage as they can autorotate and land pretty much anywhere. As well I know.

1 injured after Navy helicopter makes emergency landing in Isle of Wight

by: Julius Ayo

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — The U.S. Navy is investigating after a military helicopter made an emergency landing in an open field in Isle of Wight late Wednesday morning.

According to Virginia State Police, the call for the incident came in around 11:30 a.m. in the 12300 block of The Oaks Lane.

Officials say as the Navy helicopter was making the emergency landing, the momentum of the aircraft caused it to slide into the wood line.

The helicopter struck several trees and sustained damage to the front cockpit area and both sides of the landing skids.

There were three members on board at the time of the emergency landing.

Looks like an emergency running landing that came to an abrupt halt. Not enough data for a cause, but any landing one walks away from…

Thanks, Mick.

We saw the same thing yesterday and were thankful that the two Pilots were OK and that the backseat Passenger only had minor injuries.

Gonna be interesting to find out what happened when the Navy finallly finishes its investigation on the accident.

Thank You, AW1Ed and Mick for sharing
