US government officials are considering new Covid requirements for everyone who enters the country. All are to be tested for Covid-19 the day before their flight, and all travelers- including US citizens- are to be retested after returning home. This regardless of vax status.
While no final decisions have been made, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention spox confirmed that the agency is working to revise testing requirements for travelers because of the new Omicron variant.
“A revised order would shorten the timeline for required testing for all international air travelers to one day before departure to the United States,” a CDC spokesman said in a statement. “This strengthens already robust protocols in place for international travel, including requirements for foreign travelers to be fully vaccinated.”
Even Administration proponents at MSNBC feel this proposed policy is an overreach.

MSNBC contributor Charlie Sykes reacted negatively Tuesday to reports of the Biden administration’s planned measures to fight any potential winter spread of the coronavirus, calling the reported measures “nuts” and suggesting they would go too far.
According to The Washington Post, President Biden is expected to announce Thursday that everyone entering the U.S. would have to be tested for the coronavirus one day before boarding their flights, regardless of their country of origin or their vaccination status.
Officials are also considering having all individuals take an additional test within three to five days of arrival, and requiring everyone, including U.S. citizens, to self-quarantine for seven days, even if their test result was negative.
“Fully vaccinated. Negative test… but still quarantined and subject to fines? I’m pro vax, pro mandates. Pro social distancing. But this is nuts,” Sykes wrote on Twitter.
These new policies will apply even if the travelers country of origin is Guatemala, and they walked across the open Southern border. Right?

Dude, I had to quarantine for 14 days before the vaccine was available– now, I’d have to quarantine if I’ve vaccinated and this variant isn’t even as bad. Jeez, could folk get a grip?

“That’s a different issue,” Fauci replied, arguing there was less of a capability for the government to enforce testing protocols for people crossing the border.
Fauci claimed there was some coronavirus testing at the border — even though the Biden administration has not required universal testing or vaccine mandates for border crossers before they are released into the United States.”

It occurs to ol’ Poe that the more of this kind of stupid Covid crap the Democrats pull between now and next year’s midterm elections, the easier they are going to make it for Republicans to retake control of the House and many state offices.
