Dog helps lead game warden to suspect at Kansas lake
Ruby was rewarded for her work with a swim in the lake
Ruby the K-9 officer for Kansas game wardens may be pushing 10 years of old, but her sniffer works just fine.
That was evident earlier this month when Ruby played a key role in tracking down a man wanted by police in the south-central Kansas town of Wellington.
A Monday Facebook posting by Kansas Wildlife & Parks-Game Wardens says Ruby and her handler, Chris Stout, joined in the search for the suspect on Oct. 8 at Wellington City Lake.
Ruby found the suspect “face down in mud under dense brush.” For her hard work, Ruby was rewarded with a swim in the lake.

Man shot dead in Casselton broke into woman’s home

The man killed in an early morning shooting in Casselton on Monday had broken into a woman’s apartment and violated a restraining order, according to Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Jesse Jahner says 54-year-old Edwin Kester Jr. shot 58-year-old Randell Burton after Burton forced himself into an apartment on 37th Street Southeast at around 2 a.m.
“Mr. Burton forced his way into the residence through two locked doors,” Jahner said during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
The home is connected to the Club 94 Bar & Grill.
A woman, whose name will not be disclosed, had told friends she was afraid Burton would come to her home. Kester Jr. says he volunteered to stay with her so she could get some rest.

“MARS HILL, Maine (WAGM) – One man is in jail after what law enforcement determined to be a random stabbing outside Mars Hill IGA.
The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office say they received a 911 call at approximately 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday after an elderly woman was stabbed outside the grocery store. Deputies responded and arrested Ramadan Muhammad, 45, at his residence in Blaine without incident.
Muhammad was transported to Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. He is charged with aggravated attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. His bail is set at $100,000.00 cash.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Maine State Police, the U.S. Border Patrol, Maine Warden’s Service, Mars Hill Fire Dept. and Central Aroostook Ambulance Service. The victim, who was not identified by the Sheriff’s Office, is currently listed in stable condition at a local hospital.”

[Alec Baldwin cocked and fired a gun meant to be loaded with blanks on the set of a Western movie in Santa Fe on Thursday,
hitting the film’s director and cinematographer.
Halyna Hutchins, 42, was airlifted from the set of Rust,
which began filming at Bonanza Creek Ranch this month,
mid-afternoon to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque,
where she succumbed to her injuries.
Baldwin also hit the film’s director,
Joel Souza, 48, according to the Santa Fe County sheriff.
Souza remains in intensive care.
The sheriff said in a statement the two
“were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor.”
Baldwin reportedly did not know the prop contained live rounds.]
