Fort Drum soldiers take action at Arsenal Street crash scene Thursday night

Craig Fox, Watertown Daily Times, N.Y.

A dinner off post at Applebee’s for five Fort Drum soldiers turned into a moment of quick thinking and immediate action, credited for saving three people in a violent, fiery crash in front of the Price Chopper plaza on Thursday night.

Working together, three soldiers pulled two injured people from a pickup truck that burst into flames, while two others ran over to the nearby Applebee’s restaurant for a fire extinguisher to put out a fire underneath the vehicle, they said.

Sgt. Major Jake Smith was just pulling into the plaza to go to Applebee’s when he saw a Dodge Ram pickup speeding down Arsenal Street right before it smashed into a Dodge Durango leaving the Speedway convenience store shortly before 10 p.m., he said.

The other four soldiers had just finished dinner and were about to pull out of the plaza when they saw and heard the crash. All five soldiers rushed over to the crash scene to see what they could do to help.

“It was a big explosion and the next thing we knew, the whole block, the lights went out for about 30 seconds,” Spc. Shane Cockerham said.

Way to GO ARMY (beatnavy)! Good thing they were at the Applebees before the Veterans Day rush. Nothing phony about a truck on fire…or the courage of Army Men. Applebees on Vets Day…a lot of phony.

In addition to a Soldier’s Medal, give those Troopers a pass on Friday’s SHARPE Training.

Am changing the subject:

This happened 16 years ago TODAY…17 October 2005…

PLEASE…NEVER FORGET..A TRUE HERO…SFC Alwyn C. Cashe.

To Biden and Austin: What is the hold-up on his Medal of Honor?

“The Story of Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn C. Cashe, a Dogface Soldier”:

https://www.dvidshub.net/video/795746/story-sgt-1st-class-alwyn-c-cashe-dogface-soldier

“October 17, 2005, Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn C. Cashe, a platoon sergeant assigned to 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, extracted six Soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter from a burning Bradley Fighting Vehicle in Salah Ad Din Province, Iraq. Cashe’s platoon had been tasked to clear a route for a resupply convoy when a roadside bomb exploded beneath their vehicle, causing it to quickly become engulfed in flames. Cashe returned to the burning BFV multiple times to remove his team and move them to safety. All of the Soldiers on that vehicle, including Cashe, sustained significant burn injuries and were evacuated to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Ultimately, four of the Soldiers perished from their wounds; Cashe was the last to die, succumbing to injuries November 8, 2005. Cashe, who grew up in Oviedo, Florida, deployed in support of the Gulf War in 1991, participated in the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and returned to Iraq in 2005. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Medal for his brave and heroic actions, the third highest award exclusively for military operations involving conflict.”

Rest In Peace To A TRUE Warrior.

Sleepy Joe is falling back on his historical representation and slow rolling the award!!!

If he objects that much to it, he could have The VP award it!
