Federal prosecutors won’t seek charges against white police officer who shot Jacob Blake in Wisconsin last year

By TODD RICHMOND
MADISON, WIS. — Federal prosecutors announced Friday that they won’t file charges against a white police officer who shot Jacob Blake in Wisconsin last year — a shooting that sparked protests that led to the deaths of two men.

Officer Rusten Sheskey shot Blake, who is Black, during a domestic disturbance in Kenosha in August 2020. The shooting left Blake paralyzed from the waist down and sparked several nights of protests, some of which turned violent. An Illinois man shot three people, killing two of them, during one of the demonstrations.

State prosecutors decided not to file charges against Sheskey earlier this year after video showed that Blake, who was wanted on a felony warrant, was armed with a knife.

The U.S. Department of Justice launched its own investigation days after the shooting. The agency announced Friday that a team of prosecutors from its Civil Rights Division and the U.S. attorney’s office in Milwaukee reviewed police reports, witness statements, dispatch logs and videos of the incident, and determined there wasn’t enough evidence to prove Sheskey willfully used excessive force or violated Blake’s federal rights.

Father shoots man to protect his daughter

A Georgia man is in the hospital after he was shot while allegedly attacking his girlfriend, and the woman’s father is one who pulled the trigger. Officials with the Habersham County Sheriffs Office say they were called to home Wednesday evening on reports of a shooting, and when they arrived they found 26-year old Justin Rachal with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to deputies, 55-year old Cory Merchant was taken into custody for the shooting, but investigators soon determined that Merchant was acting to protect his daughter from an assault.

After interviewing Merchant and his daughter, investigators determined Rachal had committed “several acts of violence against the victim.” They deemed the shooting “justified” to protect both the victim and the young girl at the residence from further harm.

IIRC, the Blake case, Blake had admitted that he attacked the officers with his knife, or maybe his parent (s) pretty much said he got what he deserved. Either way, we’ll be carrying him on the rolls of the FSA for the rest of his life. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

“…wound to the abdomen.” Wonder if Dad was actually aiming a little lower and didn’t account for the rise from the recoil. Lotsa places in the North Georgia Mountains of Habersham County to hide the bodies of dirtbags. Hurt my little girl and I’m gonna hurt you!

Cool linky on the flintlock “pumpkin chunkers”. Until that tragic boat accident there was a rifled flintlock, in .36 caliber, hanging over the doorway. Accurate as all hell and fun to shoot. Was watching at a Pawn Stars program yesterday and they had a percussion cap version of the “Kentucky Rifle”. Dickhead “expert” was saying, “…yeah, this is the kind of rifle that Daniel Boone killed a British Officer with from 250 yards away during the Revolutionary War.” I just shook my head and tried not to throw my empty Yuengling bottle at my TV set.

With that flintlock, you may only get one shot – but if your aim is good a 0.69″ hole in the bad guy is certain to make him/her rethink life choices, however briefly.

Perhaps Dad was going for a gut shot – they tend to inflict some memorable pain – or a rapid vasectomy. For the latter a 12ga with #9 shot would be quite effective.

Commissar

That flintlock is a replica by Denix. It is a toy.

rgr769

For once, your comment is factually correct. It is a rather poorly executed toy that won’t be shooting lead balls of any caliber.

Ex-PH2

It’s a flintlock pistol, the kind used in duels.

It is NOT a toy.

Berliner

Replica or not, it would still get the person waving it around a couple wallets/cell phones in the well-to-do north lakefront part of downtown Chicago. Any other part of Chicago you better be faster than a bullet.

Commissar

It is not a real,or reproduction flintlock.

It is a toy made of cast metal and fairly lightweight wood.

It is non firing. It merely makes a clicking when cocked and fired.

If it’s NOT a real flintlock and it’s NOT a reproduction flintlock –
WHAT IS IT?

Toy tanks supposedly sent home from Afghanistan, toy flintlocks, Kindergarten grammar..? Hmmm, do you detect a pattern here, rgr769?! *shrug* Res ipsa loqiter…

Commissar

The post office on Kandahar physically inspected your packages before they are sealed for shipment to ensue no contraband when sent.

They physically search the items themselves.

The toy tank was rejected for being a “weapon”.

And this is a toy flintlock. Made by Denix.

Not sure what you are getting at besides showing you are clueless.

Still inept and unable to compose a simple logical sentence… But you try to CLAIM you went to University, right? Fraud.

Yup. Belabouring the obvious AGAIN.

You seem to know a helluva lot about toys, Lars…

‘ NOT SURE WHAT YOU ARE GETTING AT – CLUELESS’? Coming from you, LARS – THAT’S A COMPLIMENT. Thank God your Momma had no children that lived…

C’mon man, we’re not being critical of you. Plus, your link goes to an article with pics of real flintlock rifles. For next week, how about a pic of the most ubiquitous flintlock in history, the British Army’s “Brown Bess.”

Hatchet

Definitely NOT being critical, AW1Ed – the above link does go to an entirely relevant and very interesting article. Keep up the great work and please continue to ignore your detractors. Cheers Mate 🍺

When I started being active in the political party of my choice – ages ago – I heard a long-time volunteer say “In this buisiness you need a thick hide and a short memory.”

I’ve found that to be very true in many areas.
