Booster shots for COVID-19 will initially be on honor system
The CDC has provided the criteria needed to get the third (booster) shot. The qualifications includes those over 65, those 50 and older with chronic health issues, health workers, etc. The honor system kicks in with the expectation that those lining up for this shot are cleared to get it. The booster shot could be received at least six months after the last jab.
From the New York Post:
“As of today, up to 20 million Americans can get their booster shots,” Jeff Zients, the Biden Administration’s COVID czar, said at a White House briefing.
“We have been preparing and we are hitting the ground running to get booster shots in arms,” he continued.
“There are people who will be getting booster shots as early as this afternoon.”
The move makes a third dose available to Americans aged 65 and over, people over 50 with chronic health issues, and those at high risk due to their jobs or living conditions — such as healthcare workers and teachers, or those who live in homeless shelters or are in jail.

I’ve read elsewhere that the vaccines currently available were developed and intended for the “Alpha” varient and not the “Delta”, which could explain why those currently being pushed only attenuate the symptoms, and not provide any boost to immunity.

Not sure about the Chinese Communist Originated Virus Infecting Disease Booster Jab, but that shot of them Blouse Bunnies sure gave me a boost.

My wife and I had the two-shot original and while I have been fine, she has now developed heart issues and fatigue issues she NEVER had before the shots. She was healthy as a horse and thin and lean. Now her energy has gone to shit and she is having more tests ordered by the cardiologist for arrhythmias she has never had before. This woman had a perfect EKG and stress test, ten years ago as a ‘coming of age’ regimen. And every EKG before and up until two months after the last shot.
So, no we will not get any booster whether FDA approved or not. I do not trust this current government and they have the horsepower to get an FDA approval any time they think it necessary.

I had arrhythmia after the two Pfizers.
With consistent cardio (swimming & treadmill) and having a good system beforehand, the arrhythmia has faded, but there is no way I’m running that risk a 2nd time!
Folks in my brother’s nursing home have been vaccinated and are still popping positive, but I don’t think they’ve lost anyone to it. And most of them are well into their 80’s and in less than good health.
Contra that, though, we’ve lost a number prison employees to the Chinese biological attack. A difference in food & exercise may be a contributing factor to that. (Prison food is notoriously fattening – and it’s available in large portions to the employees.)
Graybeard, we also had the Pfizer flavor. My wife’s arrhythmia displayed almost two months to the day after her second shot. As I wrote above, she is active, takes better care of herself than most at her age (67, but I never said that) and now, she has a heart condition that after EKGs, a nuclear stress test, and pulmonary test, show her breathing capacity has diminished and the cardiologist is next looking for the further, more extensive blood work to determine if he will do an angiogram. We are not happy about this.
We’ll keep you and Mrs. Sparks in our prayers.

I had the J&J shot and was sick as a horse for two days. I’m currently in an EMS class and I will decline the booster based on my concerns of overstimulating the immune system at intervals shorter than a year.
But now the government will mandate boosters for Healthcare workers, so it looks like they’ll never let me be an EMT.

Politicians didn’t “exempt themselves” from Biden’s mandate. Biden is using executive power for the mandate. The power of the executive does not extend to ordering congress to do anything, They were not “exempted”. The president can order anyone in any elected office to do anything, not congress persons, not members of state legislatures, not sheriffs, not mayors, not governors, not city council members…
Politicians did not exempt themselves. The president simply can’t mandate they do anything.
And with the exception of military members…every person “mandated” to get the vaccine can “exempt themselves” by resigning from the position they hold that subjects them to executive branch mandates.
As for his vaccine question; the vaccine is effective at reducing the probability of someone contracting covid, and if they do contract it the vaccine reduces the likelihood of severe symptoms or death. To the extent that someone is 100-1000 times less likely to die of Covid if they are vaccinated.
Breakthrough infections happen with nearly all vaccines. The annual flu vaccine is rarely more than 60% effective at preventing someone from getting the flu. But nearly 100% effective at preventing severe flu symptoms if a vaccinated person does get the flu. And a vaccine that is 60% effective at preventing infections has a massive impact on reducing the total flu infections in a given year.
You get vaccinated to protect yourself and reduce the spread of the “annual” flu throughout or society.
That is the same reason you get the Covid vaccine. The fact that Covid is approximately 20 times more deadly than the flu, and 50 times more likely to cause severe symptoms is all the more reason why people have a basic social obligation to get vaccinated for Covid.

My two cents on what I think you’re asking:
Meaning, an effective protection against the virus? Doesn’t the data showing the vast majority of deaths are among the unvaccinated make that pretty clear? If not, why? To be clear, nobody has said they’re a 100% effective response. But they’re clearly very helpful.
I’m guessing ‘sick’ is the missing word there, and it’s because they aren’t 100% effective. Just as most people -even unvaccinated- won’t die from the virus, but some small percentage will, most vaccinated won’t get very sick.. but some small percentage will. Vaccines are not binary things; it’s not like if you have it, you’re fully protected. It’s like body armor. It reduces your chance of taking a fatal round, but doesn’t make you invincible.
I believe this is simply because POTUS can mandate it for the executive branch of the government, but not the legislative or judicial branch. For better or worse, that’s just what’s legally allowed.
You have the patience of a saint LC.
But as you can see by Infidel’s comments on this thread your efforts are in vain.

This was going to happen last August. Then November. Then January. Then May. Now it’s October. After October, it’ll shift again.
There’s no recognition that this is a fantasy, and not reality.
It wears you down. I know you have kids who are pretty liberal, and find that difficult, right? I can’t speak for you, but I imagine you need to tackle it in small doses, because dealing with that every day is difficult.

And as other posts in this thread mention, effective treatment for the disease have been ignored, ridiculed, or banned, in favor of vaccines, which as you and commissar both point out are not 100% effective. Then there’s his rants about those who refuse to get the jab, with not a mention, suggestion, or consideration for those who due to medical conditions CAN’T get the jab.. or all those who suffered from those complications before the precautions were put on the shots ( Guilliane Barre is one.. the incidence of it after the jab is more than 10x the incidence of it with the flu vaccine which has had the precaution for years) More testing before release might have prevented some of those. Interesting that last month the CDC changed the definition of “vaccine” so that the current shots would qualify.. It would seem then that prior to the change, these shots did NOT meet the definition. That just seems odd to me. Maybe someone can explain it?

I think the choice of words simply has never come under such scrutiny before — vaccines never offer immunity. The polio vaccine? Doesn’t offer immunity. The tetanus shot? Doesn’t offer immunity. Measles? Doesn’t offer immunity. Incidentally, each of those have boosters associated with them, too.
Basically, the prior definition wasn’t as correct as the current one, but didn’t fall under intense scrutiny until now. I believe this is simply because the Pfizer one is still the only vaccine fully FDA approved, vs EUA-approved.
That said, the Pfizer one is still pretty good, and early on looked like the best one against the original strain. But yes, Moderna looks a bit stronger against the ‘delta’ one, which is now dominant here.
