Man killed while apparently stealing catalytic converter

HARRISON, N.Y. (AP) — A man died after a car fell onto him after he had jacked it up to steal a catalytic converter, authorities say.

The police said they found his body early in the morning on Tuesday and deduced that the car jack he had been using had slipped or malfunctioned.

Burglary victim helps Flagler deputies nab thief in the act, officials say
Suspect found with stolen tools, construction materials, records show

PALM COAST, Fla. – A burglary victim caught a thief in the act and helped deputies nab the man, according to a news release from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

A man living in a gated community reported that a “suspicious truck” followed him inside the gates of the development Monday evening, according to a news release. The man got behind the truck, took down the license plate number and then went to his home to get his phone to report the vehicle, deputies said.

The man then went to his new home, which is currently under construction, according to a news release, and noticed the same truck in the driveway. The man also saw someone in the garage, said officials, who later identified him as Jason Pack, 33.

While on the phone with emergency dispatchers, the man asked Pack what he was doing inside the garage, according to authorities. Pack claimed to be from the construction company but could not provide the correct name of the company when asked, records show.

Juvenile hunter fatally shoots suspected thief with arrow: cops

By NELSON OLIVEIRA
A Missouri boy fatally shot an alleged thief with an arrow after catching the man trying to steal a tractor on a family friend’s property, authorities said Tuesday.

The unidentified juvenile, whose age has not been released, was walking toward a tree stand where he planned to hunt deer with a bow and arrows when he saw the suspected intruder stealing a lawn tractor and wood splitter from the property Friday afternoon, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy called his father and a confrontation ensued between the two adults, authorities said. During the incident, the suspect allegedly ran toward the juvenile, the boy’s family told investigators at the scene.

The family’s attorney said the young hunter warned the man several times to stop and was “in fear of his safety” as the accused thief came closer, according to the sheriff’s office.

I just hope the jack is ok.

2 months ago in a suburb of Seattle, 2 gentlemen from out of state were busted with $40k cash along with a van and trailer containing 820 catalytic converters. They came from out of state to buy them from local drug addicts because Washington State Recyclers, at least the honest ones, are required to maintain on file for police review:

1. Copy of drivers license of the individual recycling a converter
2. VIN number of the vehicle the converter came from

We recently had a Darwin case here in Richmond County, NC. A catalytic converter thief was struck down in the prime of his career. They didn’t find the man until a few weeks after the deadfall vehicle fell on him. His relatives were quick to come to his defense online with praises and how he must have been helping someone repair that vehicle deep in a thicket on state game land. Nevertheless, the theft of local converters have diminished with his passing.
