Gun found after man killed by police outside his N.J. home, officials say

Investigators recovered a gun near a man who was fatally shot by police early Tuesday outside his Gloucester County home after officers responded to a call at his residence, according to authorities.Two uniformed Mantua Township police officers responded to a 911 call around 1:35 a.m. for an undisclosed reason at a residence on Elm Avenue in the town, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, which investigates deaths involving law enforcement officers.
“During an encounter outside the house, one police officer fired his service weapon, fatally wounding the man,” the Attorney General’s Office said in a statement.
Officers provided first aid to the man, who died shortly before 3 a.m. at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, the statement said. There were no other injuries.
A .45-caliber handgun was found near the man, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The agency did not release more details on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or disclose the man’s name.

Driver Shoots, Kills Bat-Wielding Man in Philadelphia
A driver shot dead an approaching man who was wielding a baseball bat in Philadelphia early Saturday, police said.
Before the shooting, which happened just before 12:30 a.m. in front of a McDonald’s near the intersection of East Chelten Avenue and Kenyon Street in the Germantown neighborhood, the man with the bat had exited his car and began approaching the other man, police said.
The man in the second car then opened fire, shooting the man with the bat in the head, police said, adding that the deceased was in his 40s. The gunman fled the scene before officers arrived.
Police said the gunman was driving a Chevrolet Camaro, and they were investigating what led to the deadly altercation.

If someone approaches me “wielding a bat”, I will damned sure shoot his ass dead. And I wouldn’t leave the area. But then, I live in Florida, not Pennsylvania.
Looks like two (2) dirtbags stepped up to the plate and struck out. If they were trying to score a dirt nap then they are both batting 1000. Am a little curious about the .45 caliber handgun found at the scene…and whether or not it made it to the evidence room. Just saying.

Regarding the first story. I’d bet that the Police got a call about a prowler at the residence. Then the homeowner not happy with less than an instantaneous arrival of the Police decided to go out and look for the prowler on his very own with his own gun. Then the Police showed up having gotten no description of said prowler from homeowner but find a guy skulking around the property with a gun in hand. When they told him to freeze and or drop the gun, he probably whirled around to face them and pointed the gun at them. At which point he was presented with multiple rounds and ventilation holes in his carcass because he was dumb.
A real tragedy and avoidable if he had just stayed inside his house where he was effectively barricaded against said prowler, if there was one at all.
Yeah, I’d go easy celebrating the Mantua Township shooting. It may not be righteous. Neighbors are are also reporting he was a retired military. Police are are not talking about it so they are either coming up with a really good story or they won’t be able to.
