After 6 Jan, did Gen Milley commit treason or prepare for a coup?

| September 14, 2021 | 39 Comments

Several days back Poetrooper sent to me this Open Letter to General Mark Milley. In said letter a retired FBI agent and former Army officer laments how Milley impugns all those who attended the 6 January 2021 rally. In accordance with media practice from the last year and a half, the 6 Jan event was the epitome of “mostly peaceful.” I do wonder how the author of that piece feels about the latest revelations on General Milley.

It seems Bob Woodward, who has struggled to maintain relevance since he rocketed to fame in his uncovering the Watergate Scandal conspiracy (and along the way done such things as out an undercover CIA operative), has a new book out. Peril, co written with Robert Costa, carries the description, “The transition from President Donald J. Trump to President Joseph R. Biden Jr stands as one of the most dangerous periods in American history.” Yes, soooooo dangerous.

Apparently it was so unbelievably dangerous that the country’s highest ranking military officer used the 6 January event as a pretext to usurp the civilian control of America’s military. He also engaged in back-channel communications with our biggest foreign adversary (who just a year prior had unleashed a literal plague on the Earth). If (and it is in deed a solidly large “IF”) Woodward and Costa are to be believed, Milley was setting the stage to commit something akin to treason or lying the groundwork for a coup of the sitting President of the United States. Check this stuff out.

From CNN;

Two days after the January 6 attack on the US Capitol, President Donald Trump’s top military adviser, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, single-handedly took secret action to limit Trump from potentially ordering a dangerous military strike or launching nuclear weapons, according to “Peril,” a new book by legendary journalist Bob Woodward and veteran Washington Post reporter Robert Costa.

Woodward and Costa write that Milley, deeply shaken by the assault, ‘was certain that Trump had gone into a serious mental decline in the aftermath of the election, with Trump now all but manic, screaming at officials and constructing his own alternate reality about endless election conspiracies.’

Milley worried that Trump could ‘go rogue,’ the authors write.

“You never know what a president’s trigger point is,” Milley told his senior staff, according to the book.

In response, Milley took extraordinary action, and called a secret meeting in his Pentagon office on January 8 to review the process for military action, including launching nuclear weapons. Speaking to senior military officials in charge of the National Military Command Center, the Pentagon’s war room, Milley instructed them not to take orders from anyone unless he was involved.

“No matter what you are told, you do the procedure. You do the process. And I’m part of that procedure,” Milley told the officers, according to the book. He then went around the room, looked each officer in the eye, and asked them to verbally confirm they understood.

“Got it?” Milley asked, according to the book.

“Yes, sir.”

‘Milley considered it an oath,’ the authors write.

Milley was having senior US military commanders swear an oath? Oh, but it gets worse.

Milley’s fear was based on his own observations of Trump’s erratic behavior. His concern was magnified by the events of January 6 and the ‘extraordinary risk’ the situation posed to US national security, the authors write.

Milley had already had two back-channel phone calls with China’s top general, who was on high alert over the chaos in the US.

Then Milley received a blunt phone call from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to the book. Woodward and Costa exclusively obtained a transcript of the call, during which Milley tried to reassure Pelosi that the nuclear weapons were safe.

Pelosi pushed back.

“What I’m saying to you is that if they couldn’t even stop him from an assault on the Capitol, who even knows what else he may do? And is there anybody in charge at the White House who was doing anything but kissing his fat butt all over this?”

Pelosi continued, “You know he’s crazy. He’s been crazy for a long time.”

According to Woodward and Costa, Milley responded, “Madam Speaker, I agree with you on everything.”

After the call, Milley decided he had to act. He told his top service chiefs to watch everything “all the time.” He called the director of the National Security Agency, Paul Nakasone, and told him, “Needles up … keep watching, scan.” And he told then-CIA Director Gina Haspel, “Aggressively watch everything, 360.”

More at the source, but I don’t suggest following the link to the king of fake news media. Here are alternative sources; American Military News and Red State.

Thoroughly modern Milley. A Congressional mistake and a man in need of relief from command.

He does look a bit like a Island Boy sugar daddy… but, I really don’t know anything about that sort of stuff. Now Woodward? Well who knows, he started off on the deep throat thing and, so far, it seems to be working for him!

  2. Hatchet says:

Whoa.. Ain’t that some worrying shit!

Nice leak– used and screwed by Democrats. Shouldn’t have buddied up to ’em.

Did they just tip who gets to be the sacrificial goat for the Afghanistan debacle?

  5. 5JC says:

Wow, he told to the service chiefs AND the CIA to watch stuff and follow procedure. Total anarchy. A-thor-a-tay run amuck.

He called China to tell them that US was not planning an attack. Sounds like the Chinese needed a little hand holding afraid their guy might not get in there. He made it.

Semi agreement on emphasizing following procedure. Seems like Milley was emphasizing a little too emphatically and forgetting his place though. And at first glance, back-channel communications aren’t a bad thing, but he was way out of bounds with that talk of “no surprises”. Complete violation of his oath and probably a few laws. Not to mention violating “procedures”.

Milley must buy Vagisil by the case.

  7. 11B-Mailclerk says:

Folks, don’t forget the progtards -project-.

    “Trump will stage a coup!”

And it was the progtards playing “coup” .

“Trump might start a war because crazy”

    Biden: “Hold my ice cream.”

As I have suspected for a long time, all of the COL and above types in the US Armed forces think just like our own beloved Dummissar.

The solution starts with taking back school boards, cities, counties, and states.

The lefties and their hysterical children must be rooted out of all places of influence, power, and authority. This starts at the local level.

Stop voting for them, get involved in campaigns at the local level, stop supporting their businesses, churches, clubs, etc.

We have in practice what McCarthy warned us about in theory. A leftist idiocracy in charge of everything from dog catching to the Presidency and it is both parties doing it.

IMHO Milley sold hos Soul for his own personal gain betraying the United States of America along with the ID Army, the US Army Infantry,…

Here’s a quote from Red State that I find on the mark:

“But even if you assume Trump was going to do something dangerous (he wasn’t, but let’s assume), Milley’s obligation would be to refuse the order, resign, and notify Congress. It would not be for him to make secret calls to the Chinese to let them know he’s going to feed them information.”

  13. Poetrooper says:

One of those very smart, conservative lawyers at POWERLINE, John Hinderaker, says he has doubts that Woodward’s account is accurate and quotes Ric Grenell, a former member of Trump’s Administration, as being skeptical:

“Bob Woodward has become the Michael Wolff of Washington, DC.

“It’s hard to believe anything the two of them write.

“Trump isn’t a war starter and I don’t believe Milley thought he was.”

‘Twill indeed be interesting to hear what Milley has to say.

    • Mason says:

As much as I have grown to dislike Milley, I agree with these guys. Woodward routinely pushes out some sensationalist yellow “journalism” to keep his name out there. He rides his Watergate credentials. He peaked very early. Why Presidents even give him the time of day is beyond me.

  14. MarineDad61 says:

    Levin nails it.

  15. Old tanker says:

From the American Military News article, ““General Li, you and I have known each other for now five years,” Milley added. “If we’re going to attack, I’m going to call you ahead of time. It’s not going to be a surprise.”

This is grounds for the charges by itself. He has breached national security to inform our most likely military opponent that he will give advance notice of impending military action. If this is true he needs to be court marshalled and serve serious time. It ranks right up there with another General, by the name of Arnold.

  16. Commissar says:

    WTF Mason?

You are a propagandist and a liar.

You also supported the coup and the attempt by a despot to overthrow our democracy.

    You fucking traitor.

    • KoB says:

      Always with the vulgarity.

      Always with the personal attacks.

      Always a spapos.

      Always a fraud (ht 2 SFC D).

      Get lost, Dippy.

With that level of emotional immaturity, it’s amazing that Lars was a field grade officer in the U.S. Army.

That could very well be what terminated his active duty.

        And his truncated LEO career.

But makes him a perfect fit as an Antifa street medic…

    • SFC D says:

Mason didn’t write the book. One of your fellow liberals did. The attempted coup was from within. You’re still a fraud, still incapable of reading with any semblance of comprehension.

If you were a new member you’d get booted, again, for that remark plus what you said to OAM.

Personally, I think you’re part of the reason funding has been a problem. People don’t want to pay money for your abuse.

    • Mason says:

Your feedback is important to me.

I am not a propagandist and do my best not to lie. If I have been found to be wrong, I assure you it is unintentional, and I’m willing to admit my mistakes. Something you seem incapable of.

I never have supported any coup. For that matter there has never been a coup attempt in US history. Since the ratification of the US Constitution, the closest we’ve come is the Business Plot in 1933. Which may or may not have happened. I assume in your accusations you’re referring to 6 Jan 2021 as a “coup” that attempted “to overthrow our democracy.” This is a bald-faced lie and an intentional gross misrepresentation of the facts of the day.

I am not a traitor. Unlike some, I remember my oath to the Constitution and take that seriously.

Please stop resorting to infantile, sophomoric insults when you can’t be bothered to refute anything I’ve said. It’s unbecoming. Despite your well earned reputation here, I believe you are capable of better than that.
