Stupid people of the week (extra helping)

As I said on Saturday, there’s been a lot of stupid lately. In honor of Labor Day, bear witness to some more dumbass behavior.

Sheriff’s Department Looking For Inmate Who Escaped By Pretending To Be Someone Else In Prison

A local sheriff’s department is on the lookout for a Missouri woman who reportedly escaped prison by impersonating one of her fellow inmates.

The manhunt was started in Colombus, Missouri, when 24-year-old Ellen Renay Goble, who was held on five unspecified charges, posed as another inmate to escape Saturday morning, according to a report from local KMIZ-TV.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Department did not know about Goble’s escape until they were notified by other inmates, KMIZ reported. Jail staff then went back to check the cells to make sure all inmates were accounted for and confirmed that Goble had been falsely released, according to the outlet.

Sheriff Aaron Wilson reportedly put together a group to locate Goble and investigate how she managed to escape. The Sheriff’s Office also said they would implement new security measures in order to prevent future incidents from happening, according to KMIZ.

The Sheriff’s Department believed that Goble was still in the area and that she did not pose a threat to herself or anyone, KMIZ reported. However, they urged citizens to exercise extreme caution if confronted by her, according to the outlet.

45-year-old Charlie “Mikey” Everitt managed to escape a California prison in April. At the time, he was the seventh inmate to escape from jail in Merced County in 2021, Fox News reported.

Police pin hopes on ‘rainbow cars’ to drive out hate crime

Yeah, putting rainbow livery on your cars is really gonna change the world. I can only imagine the Muslim knife and rape gangs are seeing the error of their ways when the rainbows come through.

Police are replacing patrol cars with “hate crime cars” to encourage people to report incidents such as social media comments.

Deputy Chief Constable Julie Cooke said that the cars painted with the police insignia and rainbow designs are now “part of our vehicle fleet” and will be driven daily by officers on patrol.

However, critics have said that forces should instead focus on policing “real” issues such as knife crime and rape, with the latest figures showing poor prosecution rates.

Ms Cooke, the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s (NPCC) lead on LGBT issues, released a video on its Instagram account explaining why police have rainbow vehicles.

Describing them as “hate crime cars”, she said that forces are “always replacing vehicles” and they get the police insignia and “there will normally be then something added on that is to do with the rainbow side of things”.

A spokesman for the NPCC said that they did not have figures on how many had been painted as forces operate independently and it is up to individual forces how many cars they want to convert.

Ms Cooke, who works at Cheshire Police, added that the “cars are there in the communities on normal policing patrol just to show the community that we want you to come forward… It is there to try and give confidence to our LGBT+ community, but also to other under-represented groups”.

She said that the “cost is quite minimal”, but the impact is “huge”.

The number of hate crimes reported to police have more than doubled in recent years, with allegations of transgender hate crime seeing the sharpest rise.

However, cash-strapped forces across the country have faced criticism for focusing on the allegations, a large number of which stem from social media comments.

Even where a crime has not been committed, police record the allegation as a “hate incident”, which could show up on a person’s criminal record checks.

Harry Miller, a former police officer and founder of campaign group Fair Cop, said: “We don’t see the Met with special cars for knife crime, even though the number of stabbings in London is appalling.

“The problem is that the second that you see a rainbow car, you know that it is a police force that has made its mind up about some very contentious issues. You no longer see a police car or a police officer who is there to support everyone, from all political persuasions, without fear or favour.

“They have literally tied their colours to the mast and painted their cars with their political leanings. They are painting rainbows on their cars when we have figures showing that only seven per cent of violent crime ends in a prosecution.

“They have moved from policing crime to policing thoughts and speech, because it is easier.”

Finally, in our last piece we have another contender for the dumbest move of the year here. It’s why the post has been tagged with “WTF?”, by far the most appropriate reaction to this train wreck.

Woman marries man convicted of killing her brother

This kiss isn’t awkward at all

They both said “I do” after he said “I didn’t do it.”

An Ohio woman married a man convicted of killing her half-brother in the 1980s, with the couple exchanging vows while he’s on house arrest awaiting a retrial, reports said.

Crystal Straus and John Tiedjen began their strange courtship when she wrote him a letter saying she forgave him for killing Brian McGary in 1987.

“And I wrote her a letter back and I said I didn’t do it, take a look at this stuff,” Tiedjen, 57, told News 5 Cleveland. “I believe in God too, and I know things about it, but I didn’t do it.”

Tiedjen got out of prison July 22 after he was granted a new trial based on a slew of images and missing police reports, Boston 25 reported.

It’s no given that he’ll be found not guilty the second time around.

“We’ll get through this,” Straus said, according to News 5. “It’s going to be a challenge, there’s no doubt about it.”

The Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office thinks it still has a solid case, telling News 5 it has evidence that Tiedjen asked a friend to dispose of the gun that killed McGary. Tiedjen’s attorneys have argued that evidence points to McGary having committed suicide.

McGary, who was Tiedjen’s roommate, was found dead in their apartment with a stab wound and a fatal gunshot wound to the head, reports said. After intense interrogation, Tiedjen signed a statement that said he shot his roomie in self-defense, Boston 25 stated.

Tiedjen popped the question to Straus on the phone on New Year’s 2020, when they weren’t sure he’d ever get out of prison, the Washington Post reported.

“It’s definitely not a fairy tale,” Kendall Corral said of the romance, according to the Post. “But it’s so genuine.”

Here in Brevard County, Florida, the Sheriff decided to add an American Flag and the words “In God We Trust” on police vehicles.

The decals were paid for by a local business and cost the taxpayers nothing.

The group “Freedom From Religion” sued to have them removed. The Judge ruled in favor of the Sheriff, essentially saying “the phase is on US currency which the Supreme Court has ruled to be legal.” Then the judge told the FFR group to go pound sand.

Good for them. More people should be willing to turn the other cheek instead of being offended…or in this case “told to turn the other cheek, and not be offended!”

I am not a particular fan of certain groups of people getting all handsy in public…actually I am not fond of people of any sexual orientation to be doing anything other than holding hands in public! Straight, gay, or other!
