Should businesses ask for proof of vaccination from potential customers?

| August 2, 2021

CNN’s Jake Tapper asked if more businesses should obtain proof, from customers, of their vaccination status. Francis Collins, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director, said yes, as he wanted to see the pandemic end. He suggested that peoples’ desire to be at public events could serve as encouragement tools for people to want to be fully vaccinated.

From Newsweek:

“But I think maybe that’s what it will take for some of those who’ve still been a little reluctant to say ‘Ok it’s time.’ The data will support that decision. They are making the right choice for their own safety, but sometimes it takes a nudge,” he added.

When asked if he believed airlines should require travelers to be vaccinated, Collins said that’s up to the companies, but noted: “a case could be made for that.”

“And that would be another incentive for some of those who are reluctant and people wouldn’t be surprised, I think, to see that start to happen,” Collins said.

“So if you’re thinking about international travel and you’re not yet vaccinated, it might be time to go ahead and get started,” he added.

In some cities around the country, restaurants have started requiring diners to present proof of vaccination at the door. In Seattle, at least 60 restaurants and bars are doing so.

On Friday, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said he was considering making it a mandate for restaurants to require their customers to provide vaccination credentials.

Oh, but think of the possibilities!

Turning unimportant people away because they didn’t get the vaxx that the restaurant/mayor/whatever approves of!

And how about fake ‘proof of vaxx” cards or but5tons? I see a real market for that coming up.

What? Too early?

Mustang Major

Home Depot would go broke.

A Proud Infidel®™

What’s next, will the non-vaxx people be required to wear a cloth badge just like some people of a certain Religion were forced to in Nazi Germany?

Roh-Dog

Pump the brakes there, API. According to our journo overlords that’s; wrongthink, hate speech, domestic terrorism, raysisssms, caustic-casian privilege, homophobia, etc; to compare labeling people for destruction with the same.
Reported to Kamallah (Willie Brown be upon her)

SFC D

Willie has been upon and upin her.

Jay

Given i’m a hermit anyway….don’t threaten me with more reasons to stay home.

KoB

That’s me too, Jay. ’bout the only big box/chain store I shop at is K Roger for provisions. Was in there last Friday and the PA System only said if you’re vaxxed or not you are NOT required to mask…but you can if you want to. I don’t buy from Amazon, but do get fur baby food from Chewy. And am getting more better on looking at other online purchases. And what my locally owned hardware store doesn’t have in stock, they can get within just a coupla days.

How many of us here said this was coming? Another form of people control. PHUQUE THEEM!

Jay

True story:

The fur children get their provisions from Chewy as well. I do curbside pickup of groceries from Lowes Foods. On the occasion I DO go inside, it’s mask less and rarely do I get a strange look. The employees look at me, almost LONGINGLY, as if they wish THEY could go maskless.

I always try to patron the locally owned mom and pops. They need my money more than Wally or Bezos. I’ll pay a little more, sure….but in the end, im supporting a better cause.

Roh-Dog

Not ‘no’ but ‘fk no’.
But if the authoritarians would like to further take over, I’ll trade tax subsides for whatever tyranny they’d like to enact.
Pave your own way, you Cantillion Effect benefitting fks.

Bubblehead Ray

They can require proof of my vaccination status, as long as they don’t mind my filing a lawsuit suing them for violating my rights to medical privacy under HIPAA.

Roh-Dog

When, not if, the Fed subsumes more power by nationalizing health, they will remove those protections for We rabble.
(See: UK, Kanaduh, USSR, etc)

Hatchet

Kanaduh..?

Roh-Dog

Soory, The Commie Tundra, populated by maple leaf-worshiping floppy headed fks, known as Canada.

I’m kidding. Don’t be telling anyone but there’s French Canadian blood pumping thru these veins. The current inhabitants (and Her political prisoners) are on my prayer list.

Hatchet

Wasn’t seeking to disagree, Roh. Your family ‘secret’ is safe with me. Maybe some Coureur des bois in your background? Very much unlike Liz Warren, I can prove my status. Oh and for the record – secrets are none of my business – keeping them is 😎 Cheers Bruv

Roh-Dog

Cheers back at ya.
Correct call on the woodsy nature of my ancestors. Beaver in the provinces, to logging in NY, to lumber NY to MA, building houses in southern MA, making cabinetry and rifle components around HTFD CT, to aircraft engines EHTFD CT.

No wonder I’m handy with a rifle, saw or micrometer. We are our genes, I guess.

I was a young man in Montreal once. If it wasn’t for the cold, the wallet-draining effects of the food and ‘entertainment’ to be had, I could have stayed.

Hatchet .

Wow… That’s some lineage, Bruv. Ditto here – comfortably handy with a rifle, a hammer or a voltmeter. And anyone who truly knows me, know’s to speak plainly and NEVER call me Chief or Scout. And ditto about being a young man, living in Montreal. Too ‘effing COLD and yours truly just plain couldn’t find affordable housing either. Said fuckit and nine months later, moved to Ottawa. After a year and a bit of living in our nation’s not-so enchanting capitol – decided to move further west and wound up in the Big Smoke. At least in Toronto, they speak French AND English, and the food and housing is affordable. A pleasure as always, Roh-Dog

gitarcarver

It is not a HIPAA violation.

The stores are not a covered entity.

OWB

It makes more sense to wear a mask inside a confined space with recirculating air, like a commercial airplane, than in an open 40K sq ft store where you can at least run for the parking lot if you start feeling exposed. Ultimately it is up to the owner of whatever to decide what makes sense for their business, and mine to decide if their decision suits me.

Oh, well. At least all this prolonged care concerning the spread of germs has seriously reduced the amount of other communicable diseases in the past year and a half. The only good thing there is to be said about this mess. Worth the damage done? Not so much.

Meanwhile, “flattening the curve” made sense at the very beginning of this simply because of lack of preparedness. Most folks still don’t understand the simple math of the situation – the numbers below the curve remain the same, it just takes longer for the total to add up. Bunch of folks die quickly or more slowly. Meanwhile, hospitals are better prepared to deal with this, treatments have been fine tuned, and vaxxes are widely available. There is no longer a valid reason, and has not been for nearly a year, to impose the crazy.

SFC D

There you go again. Making sense. You know that’s not allowed! I have to wonder just how much all this masking and avoidance of all things infectious has affected the immune systems of the average human. No exposure = no immune system antibody production. Are we opening another by closing one? NOTE: I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.

OWB

I forgot. Will now report to the reeducation camp. Or may I sub watching the thoroughly woke Olympics instead??

NHSparky

They can ask…but they may not like my answer.

David

Would be a good litmus test for where NOT to buy.

Black Bart

Hey folks, you’re missing the big picture here: We cured the flu last year! The f-ing ordinary, house-hold flu is gone! Colds too!

Ex-PH2

I’m torn…. between having stuff delivered, as if I’m some potentate with not enough time on my hands, or going and getting the stuff myself because I enjoy food shopping.

Decisions, decisions…. well, if I don’t go outside and smell the fresh air, then there’s no reason for me to go to the restaurant over on the highway and get a bowl of the best chicken soup ever, is there? Nah….!

I give this freak show of spreading fear about 9 more months, just to find out how long it is before the real rebellion starts.

OldManchu

Blog titles like this are going to cause Lars some premature ejaculation.

SFC D

Cleanup, aisle two…

OldManchu

Lmao!

Hatchet

Thanks for reminding me –
DOOM ON LARS!!! We now return to our regularly scheduled program…

QMC

How about a marking to differentiate the unvaccinated from the vaccinated? Maybe a shiny gold star for those “bad” unvaccinated folks that CNN, NY Times, and MSNBC refers to?

Or we could mark those that are vaccinated. Yeah, maybe all those that are vaccinated can get a chip implanted, or maybe even a number marked on them, so they can use it to buy clothes, food, and other goods?

Possibilities!

STSC(SW/SS)

Will all those DIY box stores ask the illegals gathered in front of their stores looking for work if they are vaccinated and will they chase them off if they are not.

So much for contractors getting day labor outside Home Depot.

The Other Whitey

Can they? Sure. Free country and all that. Just don’t come crying and expecting a bailout later after you’ve lost assloads of money for your wokenaziism. The lost business will hurt, and so will the lawsuits over HIPAA violations and discrimination. But if they really want to shoot themselves in the nutsack, they can be my guest.

26Limabeans

The only thing they should be asking is “will that be cash or charge?”

Roh-Dog

Yet, the unwashed masses continue to listen to our “Betters”. Point blank, they’re hypocrites. If you’d like to dig a little deeper into all of this, they’re consolidating resources to the top.

It’s time to do as they do, to wit;

Good way to lose $$$.

JURASSICHM

If they want to see my vaccination credentials, I’ll get them inked on my middle finger or my ass.

Hondo

I wonder what the “esteemed” Mr. Tapper would say about businesses asking prospective customers – and, in particular, asking HIM – if they’re HIV positive or have herpes?

They’d be doing it for the safety of their employees and other customers, of course. Both of those are serious contagious diseases, are considered incurable, and are “for life”.

OWB

Great idea.

QMC

No, that can’t be correct. He quite clearly showed that is one of the most COVID free areas in the country!

Ex-PH2

I got a letter from the VA itself telling me I should get my covid vaxx.

Should I tell them I already got it and quit wasting my tax money, or just put it up on the Wall of Wasted Money Notices?
