U.S. Army 1st Lt. Amber English sets Olympic record to win gold medal in skeet shooting

Amber English’s Olympics debut was well worth the wait. English set an Olympic record en route to winning the gold medal in skeet shooting for Team USA.
English shot a record 56 at the event to take down 2016 women’s skeet gold medalist Diana Bacosi of Italy.
The medal was a long time in the making for English, who missed out on making the Olympics in both 2012 and 2016. English was an alternate in 2016, but did not compete during the Olympics.
English’s win was tense, earning the gold over Bacosi by just one point. She missed just two of her last 30 targets to secure the victory.

Whats her primary MOS?
A friend of mine enlisted in the Army right out of high school and basically spent his entire career at Benning. I joke with him a while back he went in the Army on a scholarship, as he was assigned to the AMU his entire enlistment. His MOS was ostensibly as a Bradley guy. After his enlistment he used his MGIB to get his EE.

When I went to BNCOC (school for Staff Sergeant) we had a fellow 19D who had joined the Army to become part of the marksmanship unit. He still had to go to 19D BNCOC. Great guy but struggled academically because he had never done the job outside of OSUT when he joined.
When I saw the headline we had an active duty troop win a shooting event I expected it to be a Marine.

I’m proud for her. Skeet is a good bit more difficult than trap, to my experience. Both are great fun.

English began shooting at the age of 6 and is a member of a distinguished shooting family. Her father, Mike, and uncle, Butch were U.S. Running Target National Team members and Olympic Training center resident athletes, while her mother, Ana, and aunt, Kim, were members of one of America’s top collegiate rifle programs at the University of Kentucky. As a result, both hunting and shooting are recreational activities for the entire English family. Amber commenced competitive shooting in 2006 at age 17 when she began competing in women’s skeet matches. After progressing up the ranks of International skeet shooting, she moved to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado to become a full-time resident athlete in 2013. Competing in various domestic, international, and world cup matches, Amber has continued to hone her skills as a shotgun shooter, and has her sights set on the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
English joined the Army in February of 2017 where she graduated from Officer Candidate School in Ft. Benning, Georgia. She then went on to graduate from BOLC as a 92A.
English graduated from UCCS with a bachelor’s degree in Health Science in 2012 where she actively worked as a paramedic in and around various Colorado cities.
Never considered one-dimensional, Amber, continues to work towards a new Army officer career, regularly volunteers with various local youth organizations, and works with national conservation organizations. Lover of the outdoors, Amber enjoys hiking, fishing, and hunting in the Colorado wilderness in and around the Rocky Mountains.

The “Woke” attitude of some of the US athletes, trans males in female sports, and what passes for Olympic sports these days- badminton for example. See? Low comedy.
