Fort Hood: More Than 100 Night Vision Goggles Missing

| July 19, 2021

An investigation is underway after more than 100 night vision monocles disappeared from a maintenance facility at Fort Hood military base, officials confirmed.

How much the missing goggles are worth was left unstated. Commercially available NVGs range in price from hundreds to thousands of dollars each.

One hundred lost NVGs at Fort Hood triggers investigation

Davis Winkie

Special agents from Fort Hood’s CID detachment are investigating the potential theft of “more than 100? missing night-vision devices, III Corps officials confirmed to Army Times.

“Fort Hood is investigating missing Monocular Night Vision Devices from a maintenance facility at Fort Hood, Texas reported on July 12,” said Maj. Marion Nederhoed, a III Corps spokesperson. “Currently, the missing equipment has no immediate impact on unit readiness.”

Night-vision goggles are considered extremely sensitive items throughout the military, and units will often lock down their perimeter and organize massive search parties for even one missing device.

Heh. Someone has some ‘splainin’ to do. Maybe the missing M-4 the D.C. National Guard lost will turn up, too.

When I was working in New Mexico I was astonished to the extent that officials in law enforcement were corrupt and involved in trafficking guns and goods for cartels.

It was so pervasive it felt like a fictional universe down there. Like it couldn’t be real. Third world country levels of corruption. It seemed like as much as 10-15% of officers including county sheriffs were involved in some way.

It wasn’t really treated like a secret. Just context. Situational awareness. People would casually drop the name of someone who was assumed to be corrupt in the same way someone might talk about a training opportunity or a new job assignment. Just giving you a heads up.

I recently heard, though I can’t verify, that Ft Hood is facing a similar problem within its ranks.

I am sure it is no where near the pervasiveness I saw in New Mexico…but even 1% would be hugely problematic given the amount of access to weapons and equipment a motivated shitbag could have.

When I was hardly working, I was astonished to the extent that my pronouncements were corrupt and involved in trafficking bullshit for my ego’s sake.

It was so pervasive it felt like a fictional universe up there. Like it couldn’t be real. Third world country levels of education, apparently. It seemed like as much as 10-15% of my brain cells including the mutant and half dead ones were involved in some way.

It wasn’t really treated like a secret. Just context. Spazional awareness. People would casually drop my name, who most assumed to be “challenged” in the same way someone might talk about am auditorium of kindergarteners suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. Just giving TAH a heads up.

I recently heard, though I can’t verify, that I may be the only occupant of this fanciful vacation destination.

I am sure it is no where near as pervasive in the rest of the population of the Planet Earth …but even 1% would be hugely problematic given the amount of access to books and educational materials even an unmotivated shitbag, such as myself, could have.

Commissar

Fuck off.

It is not like what I am saying is not a known issue.

I was just unaware of it until I started working down there.

Texas has a huge problem with corruption regarding border enforcement and trafficking. It is well established and well publicized.

New Mexico has the same problem. Just as well established but less well publicized because it is lower population and less prominent state and its border with Mexico is 1/7th the size of the border with Texas.

But the problem is well established and there has been high profile arrests. Like essentially the entire town leadership of Columbus, New Mexico. https://www.dea.gov/press-releases/2011/03/10/police-chief-mayor-and-village-trustee-columbus-new-mexico-indicted

I am getting bored of your spineless wormlike trolling.

Too spineless and weasel like to even post using your regular screen name.

Hatchet

More 3B(BLAH BLAH BLAH) from our resident moaning moron. But hey! I see you finally did some actual fact-checking:
BECAUSE WE ARE ALL getting bored of YOUR spineless wormlike trolling LARS. PERIOD.

And yes, in case it crosses either one of your bran-cells, you’re also an uutterly spineless weasel. SFC D must be in a magnanimous mood – YOU’RE A FRAUD. Your turn – FUCK OFF

Commissar

In your upside down world…

Recommending people wear masks during a pandemic is trolling.

Telling people it is wrong to try to storm the capitol to overthrow the results of an election they don’t like is trolling.

Saying we have a corruption problem involving trafficking on our southern border that involves some law enforcement and may involve some military is trolling.

Saying climate change is becoming a problem while we face once in a 100 year fires every year and once in 1000 year floods every decade…is trolling.

I am not the one who is a fraud here.

You have you head so far up you ass that your rectum is cutting off circulation to your brain.

“You have you head so far up you ass that your rectum is cutting off circulation to your brain.”
IMHO that is 24K Psychological Projection, Major Moonbat! I’m not insulting you, I’m describing you, you’re a sterling example of a brainwashed party propaganda parrot, Goebbels had wet dreams about having minions like you!

Hatchet

‘Goebbels had wet dreams about having minions like you!’

I’m sure the feeling is mutual…or Commie-czar wishes it were so. Good call. Spot on.

Pineywoods NCO

That last line coming from a subject matter expert (via self practice) in circulation reduction via head up ass.

Hatchet

My upside-down world? Says you with your ass-kissing view from China. You’re a FRAUD. Fuck Off.

MI Ranger

That is a really old story Commissar! Is the corruption still going on, or did your man Biden nip it in the Butt when he was running things (eight years as the Number 2)? Surely corrupt Border enforcement is not the reason for this massive surge of immigrants coming across our southern Border! Or is it?

Berliner

“Texas has a huge problem with corruption regarding border enforcement and trafficking. It is well established and well publicized.”

Border enforcement is actually a Federal responsibility which went circling down the toilet with the election of President Dementia/VP “Heels Up/Don’t Come” Harris, aka the “under the table” main squeeze of Willie Brown.

There are now US Government chartered 737 flights almost daily (6 since July 15) from Laughlin AFB, a pilot training base, on the US/Mexico border outside Del Rio, TX. The flights relocate newly arrived undocumented/Illegal aliens throughout the country. One phrase comes to mind on this… super spreader.

Commissar

The measure of weather a modern industrial democracy has a corruption problems, especially in the ranks of its law enforcement of military…

Is not “well, I am sure it is not much worse than the rest of the world”…

What the fuck is wrong with you? Is that your standard for our country?

Well, you have what you want, we are indeed no worse than most of the countries in the third world.

Much worse than most industrial democracies. But why hold ourselves to a higher standard than any other failing state? Right?

Hatchet

Whatever. FUCK OFF

Commissar

*whether….not “weather”…

Among other mistakes, probably.

SFC D

You gotta be shitting me. You, of all people, are gonna correct someone’s spelling and grammar? You’re a linguistic fraud.

Mason

To be fair, D, he’s correcting himself. 😉

SFC D

Well fuck. Please retract my previous statement. My apologies. I’ll put myself in timeout.

Hatchet

SFC D – no need for any kind of ‘Time out’. The proper spelling is ‘WHETHER’ and Commie-czar is STILL and ALWAYS will be, just a FUCK’N FRAUD…

timactual

“Among other mistakes, probably.”

Certainly, not “probably”.

Hatchet

Big SURPRISE!!! Commie-czar vague attempt at spelling and syntax is still…very apparently..absent.

Hack Stone

Weather or whether, you make the call. Not trying to be a dick, just recommend that you stop using the spellcheck software from that proud but humble woman owned business that sells software to the federal government formerly located in Bethesda Maryland.

Pineywoods NCO

Be useful, Commissar…and

Go away.

Go far away.

The other side of the known universe is not far enough.

SFC D

Ft. Hood is corrupt at Chicago levels. Always has been.

Commissar

I am surprised at this.

I knew it had a huge problem recently but I saw it as just a statistical blip and potential command climate issue.

I was surprised to learn that it goes deeper and for longer than that.

SFC D

You’re always the last to know.

A Proud Infidel®™

If genius skips a generation, every offspring he ever had would be an Einstein!

Pineywoods NCO

Commiss-tard…

You couldn’t learn anything deeper without a road map out of the paper bag you reside in.

Stop wasting our time and go away.

OldManchu

“ I was surprised to learn that it goes deeper and for longer than that…..”

Common comment made by most of your ex-girlfriends to their new man after they dump you for a big bull.

OldManchu

I wanted to send this article to some civilian friends, but you are such a fucking embarrassing piece of shit in the veteran community that I now decided not to.

And fuck you with your Texas call out in the subsequent post in this article. Go talk to your potato chief Biden. Fucking asshole. You could ruin a non-binary wet dream.

Skippy

There are many more issues then what is being reported. Enjoy the new PC army

Veritas Omnia Vincit

You’re not wrong about the corruption levels in New Mexico. In a 2010 Senate Hearing (March I think) it was revealed that there had been a 40% increase in corruption of Federal officials working the Border Patrol largely due to infiltration by the cartels.

That same hearing revealed that 1600 convictions of Federal, State, and local officials had taken place in 2008-2009 and there were 2,500 additional cases pending.

As with all things drug war related one suspects the problem has not been significantly reduced in the ensuing years.

The United States has no bigger failure than the drug war in its history with respect to efforts by the government to stifle a black market product that Americans desire.

The drug war has brought nothing of value to the United States people, only infringement after infringement on our rights.

We Americans would prefer to think of our law enforcement agents and officials as typically above reproach, it’s a comfortable illusion about a benevolent government. The evidence unfortunately presents a somewhat different portrait. As with all things it’s never as clear as black and white but rather cloudy with shades of gray overlapping the law, ethics, and morality of a not insignificant portion of these agencies along the border.

The sums of money involved are very hard to resist for someone trying to take better care of their family and obtain the material things that large sums can purchase.

penguinman000

It always amazes me when people miss the long range effects of establishing case law.

Carroll v US (1925) is one of the primary pieces of case law for warrant-less searches of vehicles. It was a result of prohibition efforts. It’s now become a routine part of the law enforcement landscape.

The drug war has gifted us civil asset forfeiture and privatized prisons.

I don’t think the corruption we’re seeing nowdays is really much different from what we saw during prohibition. We survived it then and I suspect we’ll survive it now.

Hate_me

I’ve taken to signing all my hand receipts with my right hand (normally a lefty). If anything goes sideways, the graphologist has my back.

Roh-Dog

That’s pretty dang funny right there!
To establish its rightful owner, on my folding chair I had scrawled across the back: CAPT YOSSARIAN.
My PL was only slightly amused.
To this day it makes me wonder just HOW I avoided a second psych eval that tour.

MI Ranger

You had to sign in to your TOC? Every Day? Did you wear badges as well?
Or was it like a Super Secret Squirrel kind of TOC where you played with alien inventions and mind control?

The only SCIFs I have ever had to sign in to were ones where I was only read-on to some of the stuff they worked.

Roh-Dog

Don’t look at me, mine are out on hand receipt.
I’d drive off base as fast as you can. Don’t look back, don’t answer your phone.

KoB

Ruh Roh, some ‘splainin’ to do for shore. A maintenance facility? Is this where they would be working on said NVGs? Wouldn’t want to be the receiving/disbursing tech there. Sh*tbags gonna sh*tbag.

I’ve been known to do my best work in the dark. Never needed NVG for that work, tho it would be nice to have a set to keep a weather eye on that North Wall. Guess I’ll just have to depend on the light from the foo gas when the time comes.

A Proud Infidel®™

Some asses gonna be grasses!

Graybeard

Methinks the Hood has gone to pot (and other substances favored by those escaping from reality – like whatever Lars partakes of).

Not good for someone there. Hope they find all the missing items and those responsible and secure both for a long, long time.

ChipNASA

NVGs?
What are those?

(Not a thief, just retired Chairforce…)

Roh-Dog

Fair and fore warning, the hobby gets spendy… DON’T DO IT! (But do it. Half the year is dark and some things may need holes ballistically-installed at night)

(This is my go-to or optics planet. Must. Hide. Credit card. Now.)

ChipNASA

OK Mr Fuckballs.
Thanks for the link. My credit card has been abused more lately than a new camper at the Epstein/Clinton Summer island daycare compound.
I justified it as a national/family emergency.
NOW you want to go and tell me that I need, absolutely NEED, NVGs?
Yeah, I’m already in trouble by trying to recreate the armory of any of the recent Call of Duty releases in real life.

Roh-Dog

Sorry not sorry.
On the upside they retain their value well. (Look for used prices, very little depreciation) And they’re priceless if you ever need them.
If you are entertaining the idea seriously I’d get some hands-on experience.
Oh, and ‘buy once, cry once’. A ‘good’ set of PVS-14’s should run $3,000.
Then there’s infrared aiming lasers…

ChipNASA

Yeah, I just went to my “GoTo” about guns and stuff…

Pew Pew Tactical. Not the be all and end all but my first, educational place that’s (IMHO) pretty solid and reasonable, kind like Consumer Reports.
I’d like to think they’re not biased unless I hear otherwise.

At this point, I’m going to work on zero-ing my cc in addition to my weapons (LOL!)

Not only that, I’m securing a 1,200 sq foot cape cod with scarcely 50 feet wall to wall on 1.5 acre lots (side to side, more like 50 yrds back to back), SO tactically, swinging a 12 ga around for home defense is not exactly my first choice on my floor plan, my 9mm with a green laser will work just fine. (As tested at 2 am one night before I went to bed, on the way to the safe..in decent ambient light with some indoor nightlights on, it lit things the fuck up and with a 9mm Canick with a 20 round (standard) magazine, I think I’m ok with that.)

NVGs probably aren’t necessary. I’m past the diapering stage. (LMFAO)
😀

That’s supposed to be 1/5 Damn, I’m not a millionaire!!

the hobby gets spendy

Indeed looking at those prices all I could think of was upgrades I want to get done to my sailboat for that kind of money…especially the high end items…

Hatchet

Scrounge!

Gear a’drift is a gift.
There’s one thief in the (inset branch), everyone else is trying to get their sh*t back.
If you steal sh*t and get caught, you suck at stealing sh*t.
Don’t trust no one. Trust yourself twice as much as that.

I’m sure the heroes at CID will have this wrapped up in time for dinner. Who am I kidding, CID couldn’t find pussy in a whorehouse. Can I still say “whorehouse “?

A Proud Infidel®™

Most of the CID’s I evermet couldn’t even lead a Platoon of drunk Sailors to a whorehouse!

I’ll say it before Jeff LPH 3;

Missing NVGs? They did not see that coming.

Russ Vaughn

More bad imagery for Ft. Hood…

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I had a vision that you would say that Mason.

Sapper3307

Experimental MRE is the current code word.

Sgt K

I was down there in 1992 when a sister battalion had all their NVG’s stolen out of their arms room over a holiday weekend. They were living in their motorpool for two weeks before they finally gave up. Never found them…

Graybeard

And somewhere in Mexico, a cartel is shelling out bucks for ’em I’ll bet.

Carlton

If I were an army officer with ambition, I would have to retire or resign my commission if sent to Ft Hood; it looks like a career killing assignment.

Roh-Dog

The only place outside of Iraq I’ve been shot at-ish with an AK, Killeen Texas.
Never wanted to unass an AO that quick, ever.

SFC D

Lately, it’s a killing assignment. 159 non-combat deaths since 2016.

Back in late 02 early 03, the aircrew mobility side left their outside door unsecured. Security Police found it, and went shopping. After shopping on the mobility side, they discovered they could walk through the freight elevator and go shopping on our side (Aircrew Life Support). Survival Vests, GPSs, aircrew winter gear, oxygen masks, flight gloves, flight suits, flight jackets, Gore-Tex jackets and pants, etc went MIA. I had to inventory all the Vests, all the GPSs, find out how many were missing. Then had to take the evidence sheets, come up with the NSN, price of everything listed in evidence. They also hit base mobility, and their own Cop Shop supply. One of the idiots had taken some fancy ass night scope. I was a witness for the Government, testified at the Article 32 hearings. After seeing the evidence and looking at Grand Larceny, the 4 cops took the deals the Government offered. The were looking at a General Court Martial. All were sentence to various amounts of confinement, reduction in grade, forfeiture of pay and allowance, and dishonorable discharges. Great end to a military career. Had an ENVIS (Evasion Night Vison Imaging System) basically a NVG monocular go MIA while deployed. Someone had given Aircraft Maintenance the combination to Life Support. Once I discovered this, I changed the combination, and notified all, that the next unauthorized person caught in Life Support would be charged end of discussion. Pissed a lot of people off, I sure in hell didn’t make a lot of friends that’s for sure. But when you have damn near a Million Dollars in Classified and Sensitive equipment (IE ANVIS-9D and 9G NVGs, PRC-112B1 radios, GPSs), you don’t need to be in there. Life Support is a controlled area, only Aircrew Life Support and Aircrew allowed, all others must be escorted at all times. Never found the missing ENVIS, I reported it to Army MPs so I would have a paper trail for the Report of Survey. I’ve always been surprised at how much shit people will walk off with, when given the opportunity, whether at… Read more »
