Potentially deadly assault—Two stabbed, suspect shot in incident

By David Anderson
CENTRAL VALLEY — The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident that left three people hospitalized Thursday night.

The shooting and stabbing incident was reported in a 911 call made at approximately 11:35 p.m., according to Sevier County Sheriff Nate Curtis.

“The caller was in obvious panic as she reported her husband was being stabbed by her grandson,” Curtis said. “Right after the call, the caller was attacked by the same individual.”

As the second victim was being attacked, the first stabbing victim was able to get a handgun and shoot the attacker — the couple’s grandson — multiple times, according to Curtis.

“This gave the stabbing victims time to leave the residence, get in their vehicle, and drive to the neighbor’s house and then called back reporting the shooting and their location,” Curtis said. “When deputies arrived, they found them in their vehicle bleeding from multiple stab wounds. The neighbors were tending to their wounds until EMT’s arrived on scene. Upon arrival, officers found two elderly victims who had suffered stab wounds.”

Deputies: Teen acted in self-defense in fatal shooting outside Escambia County home

by Olivia Iverson
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Sunday’s fatal shooting of a 60-year-old man in Escambia County is now being investigated as a “Stand Your Ground” case.

Escambia County deputies say the teen shooter will not be charged at this time, as investigators believe he was acting in self-defense. The State Attorney’s Office is investigating and will make the final ruling.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. in the 500-block of Corrydale Drive near Quigley Road.

Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons says the 60-year-old man thought the pair of young men were trespassing and yelled at them to leave. But Simmons says the passenger lived in the home and both were preparing to go fishing.

At one point, Sheriff Simmons says, the man stuck his arm into the car — grabbing the driver by his throat and choking him. Fearing for his life, Sheriff Simmons says the teen shot the man.

It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.
