CJCS Milley embraces critical race theory

| June 25, 2021

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, US Army General Mark Milley (pictured), testified in front of Congress recently. The topic of critical race theory (CRT) came up. CRT has been described as a twist on Marxist class warfare, substituting race for the class divisions. CRT says that black and brown people in this country are systemically held back. They preach “equity”, not equal opportunity, but equity of outcome, which is antithetical to the American way. It’s literally the opposite of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream. Everything needs to be judged within the context of race.

When CRT came up, Milley said he thinks it’s important to read CRT so he can understand “white rage.” The best test for if something is racist is to substitute another group. Would he be receiving glowing praise (MSNBC for example titles their video on his testimony “Joint chiefs chair Milley schools Gaetz on Critical Race Theory”) if he had testified to trying to better understand “black rage” or “Muslim rage”? Of course not, because painting an entire race with a broad brush is racist.

Milley then made his thoughts clear on the protest turned riot on 6 Jan;

What is it that caused thousands of people to assault this building and try to overturn the Constitution of the United States of America? What caused that? I want to find that out. I want to maintain an open mind here, and I do want to analyze it.

No wonder the FBI is furiously and doggedly pursuing people with tenuous connections to the events of the day. The professional head of the United States military thinks that the protest was actually an attempt to overthrow the US government. He’s testified as such in front of Congress now.

Milley then went on to say that he’s read other anti-American, racist, murderous hate in an effort to understand our adversaries;

I’ve read Mao Zedong, I’ve read Karl Marx, I’ve read Lenin. That doesn’t make me a communist,” Milley said. “So what is wrong with understanding, having some situational understanding about the country for which we are here to defend? And I personally find it offensive that we are accusing the United States military, our general officers, our commissioned, non-commissioned officers of being, quote, ‘woke’ or something else, because we’re studying some theories that are out there.

If he’d said only this, I could defend him. He didn’t though. He preceded this with his pondering on “white rage” which, on its face, is a blatantly racist statement that should receive universal condemnation.

Hear his remarks yourself.

  7. LC says:

CRT has been described as a twist on Marxist class warfare, substituting race for the class divisions.

That’s one heck of a take on it. I’m no fan of how CRT is being talked about by the vast majority of people, including on the left, but no, it’s not a twist on Marxist class warfare. It simply says the because some races have been oppressed -hopefully there’s no disagreement on that?-, systemic issues developed that exist even outside of any individual’s mentality. Eg, you might not be racist -as opposed to the again-all-too-common ‘white people are racist!’ shit some idiots subscribe to- but the system still might be. And, like people, to widely varying degrees.

Once again, VoV pointed out the ‘Color of Law’ book a while ago that gets into aspects of this. Another example would be how different sentencing for things like crack and heroin, while not directly about race, clearly have had racial impacts.

There’s nothing wrong whatsoever about understanding that, and working to address is. And that implies also curtailing the idiocy I mentioned above about how it’s being taught today, in a reactionary, stupid way.

It’s a bit like how quantum physics is a real, valid thing to study. It doesn’t mean your ‘chakras’ are ‘unbalanced’ because your quantum self is out of alignment with the astral plane, or similar verbal diarrhea that some liken it to be. That’s taking the same conceptual name, and giving an absolutely untethered take on it.

No reason to replace the best system of government on the planet with a slush fund for rich white kids to dole out judiciosly.

      • LC says:

Residual institutional racism? Right. There used to be a marriage penalty in tax law. There will be inequities in any system. Go ahead and correct the most egregious and live your life.

Absolutely no disagreement there. But there’s nothing inherent to CRT suggesting reparations for slavery should be official US policy as well. That’s utter madness in my opinion. Virtually nobody is seriously talking about replacing our system of government.

In many respects, if the thesis is that the US mistreated non-whites, and left them statistically poorer, a pretty simple solution that’s not race-based is to simply work to help uplift the poor. Irrespective of race. If the Democrats had any sense, they’d push that angle.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

        • Mason says:

Critical race theory is all about blaming some “other” for your lack of success if you’re one of the “oppressed” races.

Look at who’s peddling the garbage. It’s the same people who peddled the Marist Occupy Wall Street. The goals are the same as well. Sow division and discontent.

          • Anonymous says:

Ah, The System, The Man, etc.– it’s all “oppresssion” and never left/libtards’ fault, of course.

Think that was called “The Great Society”.

    • penguinman000 says:

CRT sprung from critical legal studies which spawned from the loins of marxist legal theory.

CRT doesn’t posit that some races are oppressed. It posits that all people of color are oppressed by whites.

Our leadership looking to “learn” from this is akin to them reading a David Icke book for education on space/aliens. Both are nonsense of no value to a functioning society.

CRT is very much a polished commie turd.

      • Only Army Mom says:

LC is not incorrect on the origin of the social psychology of CRT, which as Penguinman accurately describes as originating in Marxist legal theory – hence the accurate shorthand statement that CRT is Marxist in origin and intent.

LC is also correct that understanding the idea of CRT is not in and of itself a bad thing. There are actual, factually correct points within it. As Mason stated in the original post, if Milley had only defended himself by stating it is important to understand the theory, therefore read the books, I’d have been with him. Sadly he went full rutabaga, proving he is as intellectually deficient as anyone who reads Marx and thinks, “Gee, this could work”.

        However

Like Common Core Math, whose roots are in the valid, important work of metacognition, it is in the implementation of a complex theoretical framework that things go sideways. By the time these intellectual conversations, theories and notions get watered-down to the pablum that passes for intelligent conversation these days, the key components are lost, twisted and completely devoid of merit.

Real research and intelligent discourse use words like, “supports the theory”, “may have a correlation”, etc. The media, policies, dictums and politically driven narrative translates those terms as proofs and causation.

What I find most interesting, and was brazen (or dumb) enough to bring up in a discussion on CRT is the opposite track one could follow based on CRT. Namely, why it is that nearly every culture around the world with a naturally high melanin ratio reveres those with a lack of melanin. These attitudes long pre-date contact with “White” people.

Example, in numerous African cultures, Albinism is rare but a naturally occurring mutation. Albinos are considered magical and are routinely mutilated or killed so others can “obtain” the magical properties their skin contain. Ancient Asians revered “White” skin as a mark of beauty and/or royalty, as have countless others as only those with power, status or wealth could avoid the darkening of the skin that comes with labor in the great outdoors.

My contention, phrased as a question that of course garnered uncomfortable silence, was how much of this seemingly universal human attitude contributes to modern perceptions of racism, and how this may be a more useful and appropriate direction of study vis a vie CRT.

        • Poetrooper says:

Mom, you don’t have to be an African albino to get special treatment by others of your race.

As the articles at the link below will show, “colorism” is alive and well in American black culture. Lighter skin is an important determinant in achieving preferential status and success in the black community, especially for females.

  9. Commissar says:

    More propaganda by Mason.

If you had any clue what critical race theory was you would know General Milley is absolutely correct.

Some millionaire trust fund frat boy in a bow tie on Fox News told you to be outraged by critical race theory, and like a mindless drone you obediently became outraged and then propagandize about it.

There is nothing controversial about critical race theory and it has been taught in law schools, not even a required course, for a half a century. And it’s core theory has its roots in legal realism which is a century old.

There is nothing racist about it, it is REALIST.

All it says is that the law is not independent of politics and culture. That the law is influenced by politics and culture and because politics and culture influence legislation and the adjudication of law, then the power structures of politics and culture shape legal institutions, legal arguments, and legal rulings.

Critical race theory merely says that racism is not simply evident in the interaction between citizens, but has, at times, been part of our legal institutions from the beginning.

The 3/5th compromise in the constitution and the fact the the constitution explicitly persevered slavery makes that assertion indisputable.

    That is not tucking controversial.

In fact it is so self evident that legal realism and critical race theory is not even taught to most law students. It is just implicitly understood by anyone who actually studies the law.

They don’t need to be told racial prejudice has been embedded in our legal system since the beginning and influenced legal decisions…any person with an IQ high enough to study the law will understand that we have had an issue with racial prejudice in our legal system.

Hell, any 8th grader who learns about the Dred Scott decision does not need to be taught about critical race theory or legal realism to know that the decision was fucking unjust.

There is no liberal conspiracy to indoctrinate children into believing critical race theory. It is not taught in schools. Not even taught to the vast majority of college students, not even to social studies students. Most law students are not formally taught it.

Some social studies grad students, law students with a specific interest, and most legal scholars have essentially been it’s only exclusive audience for the last half century..

But you don’t need to be taught it, don’t need to have ever even heard of it…, to know that the core theory is correct. It is self evident.

And anyone with a moral compass knows that without ever needing to be taught it or told.

The irony is that because of mindless knee jerk right wing outrage about Critical Race theory, more people now are aware of it than ever before…and unlike Mason, many of them will actually take the time to understand the basics of it.

So the right wing outrage machine is facilitating the very thing they are outraged about.

I guarantee there will now be a demand for undergrad level critical race theory courses in colleges across the country, a demand that previously did not exist anywhere.

Contemporary Black Studies theorists, artists, fiction writers implicitly and explicitly posit just such a connection. Theorists use astronomy concepts like “black holes” and “event horizons” to interpret the history of race in creative ways, while artists and musicians conjure blackness through cosmological themes and images. Co-taught by professors in Comparative Literature and Astronomy, this course will introduce students to the fundamentals of astronomy concepts through readings in Black Studies. Texts may include works by theorists like Michelle Wright and Denise Ferreira da Silva, authors like Octavia Butler and Nalo Hopkinson, music by Sun Ra, Outkast and Janelle Monáe. Yet many Indian tribes held slaves in the thousands who weren’t freed by the 13th Amendment because as sovereign nations, the tribes weren’t bound by the Constitution. For some of those slaves, emancipation didn’t come for years after the Civil War.

Even when they were finally freed, many weren’t accepted as freedmen or given citizenship by the tribes, but were instead scorned and even banished from tribal lands by their fellow People of Color.

In every other country this is the norm. Try being a black guy in China.

What the Neo-Marxists call “white privilege” is nothing more than Majority Privilege, which has historically existed in every nation in the world. If anything, we have done the more than anyone else to make our laws just and frequently gone too far into the other side, as with Affirmative Action, abandoning the principle of meritocracy which propelled Western culture into world dominance in the 19th century.

If we continue with CRT, the future will belong to China, and they are definitively not going to be as nice as America has been as the global hegemon since WW2.

China’s loving that, of course. They scorn “woke”-ness (having won in ’49, CCP needs no more such “useful idiots” to cause trouble) themselves.

Not to mention their “Cultural Revolution” which was a mass purge that would have made Hitler, Lenin and Stalin “cream their jeans”!

OK…who are you and what have you done with Joe? Next thing you know, you’ll be drinking Yuengling Light or Yuengling Flight and swearing off that piss water you claim is your beverage of choice!🤣🍺

    • The Other Whitey says:

You are correct, Joe. This crap is designed to breed racism where none existed before. While some will swallow the White Guilt bullshit, most will question how they could be at fault for something they didn’t do, had no connection to, and happened centuries before they were born. They will question how they could possibly owe anything to people who suffered none of the evils for which they are being blamed. As they they continue to get beaten over the head with this blatantly racist bullshit, many will inevitably become resentful. That resentment will turn to hatred for the “victim class” from whom they are expected to beg forgiveness for the actions of others long past.

This is a focused attack on the very foundations of America. Those who push it are domestic enemies of this nation, and traitors actively aiding enemies of the United States.

They can’t get Jan 6th out of their heads…I was wondering exactly how weapons did they confiscate? How was The Shaman going seize power with Grand-poo-ba Water Buffalo horns? It was sure nice of many of those trying to “over-throw” democracy to stay inside the velvet ropes and have cordial escorts. I was wondering if Milley would tell us who shot Ashli Babbitt? If she was a black crack whore, they’d be building statues of her and trying send that cop to prison. Some of those questions need to be answered.

  21. Devtun says:

GEN Milley is a smart, cagey, ambitious man. He sucked up to all the shot callers. He was not the first choice of SecDef Mattis to be CJCS. GEN Milley changed that w/ a full court charm offensive on Pres Trump. He will ingratiate himself w/ whoever is in power. He got super chummy w/ Biteme & Kamala on Inauguration day.

  22. KoB says:

We’re so screwed as a nation.

Was it racists when the black tribal leaders sold their own and captured people to the A Rabs? You notice there has been very little talk of the free blacks in America that owned other blacks either have you? Yeah, me neither.

I give respect to every person that has earned it. Sad that the same 3% of the population that is steady killing one another is whining about something that really does not exist.

Open letter to America haters everywhere:

    1. We don’t care what you call it, we want no part of it. Changing the nomenclature doesn’t make it better or confuse us.

    2. Refer to the Merle Haggard song.

    3. To prove that someone is exhibiting “white rage,” don’t you first need to prove that they are enraged? Lacking that, does it really matter what their skin color might be??

    4. Study up on the meaning of the word defend. Then learn the difference between defensive action and offensive action. Yeah, the distinction is important.

    5. Repeat number 1 until you get that we don’t care what you call it. You just make yourself look even sillier by not accepting that reality.

Milley is living proof that a Commissioned Officer can be “Tabbed” out , “Blinged” out and still be a suck-up Jackass
