VA to offer gender surgery to transgender vets

| June 19, 2021

Veterans Affairs officials for the first time will offer surgeries for transgender veterans seeking to alter their physical attributes.

“[This is ] allowing transgender vets to go through the full gender confirmation process with VA by their side,” Secretary Denis McDonough said in prepared remarks for an event at the Orlando VA Healthcare System in Florida. “We’re making these changes not only because they are the right thing to do, but because they can save lives.”

Biden Admin Takes Steps to Offer Gender-Transition Surgery through VA Health Care: Report

Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough is taking steps toward making gender transition surgery available to veterans through Veterans Affairs health-care coverage, according to a new report.

A VA department spokesperson reportedly told CNN that McDonough plans to announce the move at a Pride event at the Orlando Vet Center in Florida on Saturday.

“We are taking the first necessary steps to expand VA’s care to include gender confirmation surgery — thus allowing transgender vets to go through the full gender confirmation process with VA by their side,” McDonough is expected to say.

The VA Health Benefits package currently covers mental-health services and sex-change hormones, but does not cover gender-transition surgery.

McDonough’s prepared remarks note that “there are several steps to take, which will take time.” Policy changes will need to be made and the process of creating a new federal regulation can take years.

A VA spokesperson told CNN the department plans to start the federal rulemaking process to make the change this summer.

I am not a health care professional, but enabling a person’s psychosis doesn’t save lives, nor make a more lethal military.

I pity the poor sap that goes in for knee replacement surgery and instead gets changed from a rooster to a hen.

Another reason to stay away from the VA.

How the friggin’ hell can gender dysphoria be a service-connected illness? Why is this the VA’s responsibility? I sure am glad we have so much spare government cash laying around that we can easily afford for government agencies to start offering free services in areas that are not in their wheelhouse or mission statement.

timactual

You are a bit out of date. You do not even need to have suffered a paper cut in order to get VA medical benefits. That is probably the main reason there are complaints about having to wait months to get an appointment; freeloaders.

BULLSHIT!!! If you are a veteran, unless you have a documented service related issue – and the medical records to back it up – and either made what they call “too much money” or are married to someone who did, the ‘means test’ will be applied and they will tell you you cannot even get into the VA system. VA has limited resources, they say, so they can only help those who need it most – and it ain’t you. Apparently is, however, Bradley Manning.

How?

You have the wrong attitude.
You are projecting your personal failings into societal policy.

If we accept the Lames (LGBTQWERTY+-÷×*#), then the Lames become the norm, and we as a society select ourselves out.

We cannot lose the Darwinian race to the China or Russia. Of course, China is an strategic threat while Russia is barely a tactical threat, but we risk selecting ourselves out if we don’t strategically defeat the Chinese.

Therefore…

So what if they want to be changed back to their original sex will they pay for that as well. Will they demand help if they have emotional distress by having the change.

I say take them out to sea and deep six every one of them.

FFS! What’s next, we have to pay for murdering the unwanted babies of “service members”? Speaking of members, if you don’t like the one God issued you, then you can lop it off or add to it all you want to. Just don’t make the Taxpayer pay for it! The VA can’t even take care of all of the legit combat or medical problems that Vets have now, how daHell and WHY daHell are they going to do this?

God Save Us…but not the queens.

I haven’t had my eyes checked in 7 years. One of ’em is shrinking due to pressure, or something.
I’m sure I’ll look good in an eye patch but go ‘head and get that thing tucked in there, sweetheart.

We are living in some crazy times. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings…

On the YouTube channel Zeducation (I highly recommend, it’s like Boomers Sunday three times a week), Zed shows a tweet from a woman who wants to add “MAP” to the LGBQT+ spectrum. What is MAP, you say? Minor Attracted Person – as in little boys and girls. She even sent a tweet with a picture of herself (woof) and her 15 year old lover.

Just thinking that the VA will make these procedures a priority over non-woke procedures such as heart surgeries…

Wait, how is gender dysphoria “service connected” and, since service “caused” it, wouldn’t they insist on reversing it?

Some cost-cutting wag there (knowing how the VA gets) will probably insist on folk showing proof some combat injury led to it, too.

I’m sure there was more than one guy who, while facing enemy fire for the first time, wished they could be a WAC or WAVES.

rgr769

I dreamed of sleeping in a barracks full of hot, horny WAC’s after crawling into my prime shelter (hole in the ground) and bedding down on my “rubber lady.” Actually, most of us just dreamed of having a job in the rear with three hits and a cot.

rgr769

“prone,” … damn autocorrect!

timactual

Actually I think ‘prime’ works, too. I am not so sure about “three hits…”.

“… a job in the rear …”

True, true. It’s interesting how subjective “the rear” is. To the guy in the rifle platoon the mortar platoon is “the rear”. To both of them anyplace with a GP Med. tent and a “piss tube” is “the rear”. And so on, up the chain. At one time we even considered being a door gunner to be a good “sham” job in the rear.

Stacy0311

Not gonna happen.
They’ll get put on a waiting list and kick it before they ever get seen.

Sad thing is these 41%ers will get lumped in with all other veteran suicides.

Interesting take. I agree. The VA probably does not have physicians / providers qualified to perform this surgery. They could hire someone, but I doubt there would be many takers (not to mention how fucked up the VA bureaucracy can be at times). This surgery requires a highly paid specialty and I doubt they (surgeon) would take a reduced pay cut to work in the VA (not to mention internal VA issues with this process). They would, in all likelihood, outsource it. That would require a ton of paperwork, pre / post screenings and evaluations, logistics, etc. But to the other side, with all of the paperwork and medical checks, etc., the SM would have to stay local to the outsourced facility and would, in all likelihood, be non-deployable as to the need for continuity and continuum of the medical care. Additionally, due to the type of specialized medicine required, they (the SM) would probably need to be in close proximity to a larger medical center in a major city that specializes in this “care”. That will limit many MOS and duty stations based upon entry into the military to get the surgery. And if the surgery is botched or complications arise from “lack of adherence to profile by command”, dudes are going to be on the chopping block (no pun intended). I hope after the very first one (if Army), SMA Grinston and SECDEF Austin pay a visit to the individual in question to tell them how proud they are and how brave the individual is and do some photo ops. And maybe, if the patient is white, try to also ask them some questions about “extremism” in the ranks as well. Kill two birds with one stone. And then, if Walter Reed / Bethesda is doing this in house w/ the VA (which would seem the likely path forward if kept in house), they could then go see some of the wounded folks down the hall. Curious as to if they would do another photo op at that point and tell the wounded SM how proud they are… Read more »

Green Thumb, I think you nailed it and countersunk it Brother. This is not going to go well. No individual entering the military with this in mind will ever be trained completely much less deployed. They will in all likelihood be on profile their entire enlistment for however long that lasts. Even they, cannot stay on profile for psychological, medical, etc. reasons indefinitely and would soon be processed out for “the good of the service.” I do imagine this will happen. probably in the Navy first, then Air Force and possibly the Army. They know enough to go for the least combat-oriented boot camp process available.

Again, this is not going to work well or at all. The dream of these queens and dykes to get a free sex change on the government dime will not turn out as easy as they think. And I hope those discharged for failure to follow profile, will lose VA benefits.

But, I could be just pipe dreaming that somewhere in the mess, logic and common sense will have a rubber stamp as well.

I am rated 100… I can not even get a COVID antibody test to help me make a fully informed decision concerning the vaccine, but I guess I’ll just change my gender instead. I have no problem with trans people, you be you but not at GOVT expense. There was a preliminary report concerning transitioning on active duty, that’s gonna cost alot.

Old tanker

That will be the primary reason the Military will soon be infested with non deployable mentally unstable critters.

But it’ll be “woke” and suitably career enhancing for some folk until we get into our next shootin’ war and it gets TF Smith 2.0 jacked-up.

CWOStuart

I thought you guys would love this idea. The VA absolutely sucks shit at everything they do and who better to receive botched surgeries than prospective trannies? Win-win!

Per this article, the VA/Pentagon has spent north of 15 millions of $ on this freak show during the last 5 years. That was to “treat” 1,892 “patients”. That’s a heap of money that could have been saved the taxpayer.

Given the VA’s stellar (sarc) record of helping veterans on the whole,n with the exception of that whole home loan guarantee thing, I don’t see this being any more successful than pretty much anything they do.

1. How is this a service connected disability

2. Isn’t classifying this a disability confirming that there are only two genders?

Cracker

Come on. You have to see the humor in all this, gentlemen. I was “incarcerated for a year in a VAMC up in Seattle. I had 4 surgeries for Crohn’s. Each surgery after the first was to attempt to fix the error of the one before. My small bowel is now 95 cm shorter and they took my ileum as well. I’m sporting a 12×12 “patch” of Alloderm cadaver skin to hold in my belly that was outdated (and recalled)a year before the 3/2010 surgery.

So… can you imagine these gomer Doogie Howsers doing sex reconstruction surgery? Relax. If they didn’t have gender dysphoria before the surgery, it’s safe to say they’re in for a rude awakening when they wake up.
