Firearm Sales Surge

| June 4, 2021

The jackbooted mandatory Corona shut-downs, along with continuous riots and looting in American cities, sparked a gun binge across the US. The uncertainty resulted in unprecedented gun sales including a wave of new gun owners.

Gun sales skyrocketed 40% in 2020 compared to 2019, with a record 39,695,315 background checks conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The gun buying surge has continued into 2021 in a major way. In January, gun sales soared to 4,137,480, the largest single month since figures started to be recorded in 1998.

Americans Buying Firearms: A Trend That Isn’t Stopping

by Garrett O’Leary

Last year saw more than 21 million background checks conducted for the purchase of a firearm, a record-shattering number, and at the current rate 2021 is on, that number looks like it could be broken again.
With more than 1.3 million background checks conducted for firearms purchases through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in May, according to new data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the current number of checks for the year sits beyond 8.5 million. At this same point last year, that number was just north of 8.1 million.

“These figures are hardly surprising to the firearm industry, which is battling against the Biden administration’s attacks on gun rights of law-abiding citizens,” said Mark Oliva, NSSF director of public affairs.

Surprised? Yeah, me neither. Another non-surprise is quite a lot of the first time buyers are minorities and women.

I’ve been selling some of my guns. The market has been good to me.

I know a guy that bought boo coo ammo during
the Obama years and is now more than doubling
his money. Especially 12Ga OO and slugs.

Depends upon when he bought it. 2008-2010, 2012-2015 were really expensive years. The Trump years were much cheaper.

2017 was the year of the affordable AR. There was tons of supply and Clinton had lost the election.

I have sold some ammo too. Mostly for the guns I sold and didn’t need the ammo any more. The ammo did well too.

What the media is ignoring is that there are plenty of minority Folks buying guns for the first time as well as plenty of inner city types who are sick and tired of the rants from the left and now see right through the veil!

“Gun Culture” is likely to further change.

No corresponding major upswing in hunting licenses, right?

If the vast majority of purchases were based on “I do not feel safe without a gun”, then they may be unwilling to support folks seeking to further restrict or prohibit.

Of course, there were no end of idiots previously. Folks like the shotgun-sport person who pompously advised me that anyone who owned an “AR” wanted to mass murderer. Or, the one that got angry because I referred to his “$20k” 20 Gage skeet gun as a “weapon”. He -really- blew up when I pointed out that fifteen minutes with a hacksaw and some duct tape would make it an “assault weapon”.

“I got mine. F U.” is not helping, folks. Squish it when it pops up. The folks with the truly weird/big/ugly stuff are the calories in the legislative coal mine. If they can have theirs, yours might be safe.

That momentarily-satisfied crocodile is not done, it’s just waiting for more room in the queue.

How on earth? Typozilla stomps through the village of Prose….

Canaries in the coal mine

But given my use of the Crocodile Eats metaphor, perhaps “calories” is funnier.

The Other Whitey

Yeah, but he also gave Nuisance 30 days to appeal to the 9th Circus, which puts the whole exercise into the “why bother?” category.

Hmmm……I just bought all the parts, minus the barrel so far, for my Retro/Faux USAF 604 build. With shipping I’m under $700.00 spent.

To buy one built already is in the $1,400.00 range plus or minus a bit.

Now I just got to find a barrel, buddy is going to install the barrel and FSB for me, for free. So it’ll come in under a $1,000.00, so not too bad……
