Mayor de Blasio denies veterans group permit to march on Memorial Day, is fine with pot smokers’ parade last week

Worst NYC Mayor in a generation…perhaps all time

Citing COVID-19 concerns, the City of New York denied a permit for a Memorial Day parade to a group of 16 veterans organizations in the Staten Island area of the city. The veterans groups were perplexed, as the New York Post reports;

The brush-off came despite myriad marches in the last year that have been recognized by the city, officially escorted by cops, and often featured elected officials in the line of march. They included a slimmed-down St. Patrick’s Day Parade in March, when de Blasio participated; countless Black Lives Matters protest marches; and the cannabis rally and parade May 1, when revelers hoisted a huge inflatable spliff along a 17-block route and heard speeches from Sen. Chuck Schumer among others.

This is especially offensive to the vets groups because just last week there was a “Cannabis Parade” that the city allowed to go down Broadway.

Mayor de Blasio is refusing to allow a group of military veterans to march on Staten Island on Memorial Day — after welcoming public pot smokers to puff their way down Broadway in last week’s Cannabis Parade.

“It’s a slap in the face,” Jamie Gonzalez, 57, a Marine infantryman who saw combat in Iraq during Operation Desert Storm, told The Post.

Gulf War vets like Gonzalez were set to be given special honors in Staten Island’s 102nd annual Memorial Day Parade this year to mark the 1991 conflict’s 30th anniversary — until the city pulled the plug.

“For many of us, a parade is a form of closure,” Gonzalez said. “We gather together and support each other.”

“I’m incensed,” said Ted Cohen, 82, a retired Air Force reservist who was on alert through the Cuban Missile Crisis. “It’s pathetic.”

One bureaucrat has obviously worked in government long enough to have seen this coming;

One city official said that the vets have become caught in the bureaucratic no-man’s-land of de Blasio’s haphazard coronavirus rules.

“People are just marching. That’s the new normal,” the official said. “The Staten Island people had the decorum and respect to go the proper way [and] they are suffering for their civic-mindedness.

“No one else is even asking permission.”

de Blasio’s administration is now spitting on the memory of fallen servicemembers. I thought his personal harassment of Jews at a funeral was a low point. He’s such a creative guy though that he finds new ways to dig deeper.

The vets groups are fighting back, as they rightfully should. They’ve demanded a permit from the city and are prepared to sue under the equal protection clause of the US Constitution. If this was a transgender, pot smoking, black lives matter parade, permit approval would have been swift I’m sure.

    DeBlasio and his cronies show yet again just how despicable some people can be.

    De Blasio is nearly as much fun to watch as ol’ DC Mayor Marion Barry was.

      My teenage son wanted to know why they named a berry pie (Marion Berry pie my wife brought home) after the guy. (This was back in the early 90’s when Barry was in the news for his felony conviction and imprisonment.)

        I brought marionberry ice cream home, MRS D asked if it tasted like cocaine and hookers.

        During the initial days of DESERT STORM the various air refueling anchors were named after Berries. When they ran out of common ones one of the wizards in Combat Plans portion of the TACC added the Marion Berry anchor from memory we stuck probe and drogue tankers there to refuel the Navy/Marines

          Ever since I ran across it, I have been fond of the “farkleberry”. The name just rolls off the tongue.

      Use the Barbed Co@k of Satan…wrapped in asbestos coated razor wire. And feed him puffer fish heads. I understand they can be poisonous if not prepared properly. And puffer fish make their own gravy. Have a bisket deBastardo.

    If you really believe the DNC cares about you or America, you probably believe Joe Biden got 80 million + votes. I really don’t know how the NY population puts up with them.

      Get outside NYC, Albany, and Westchester County, you’d be surprised how many NY residents can’t stand Cuomo or the Dems.

    Hmmmm, Pedo Joe denies a permit for the Thunder Run, DeBlasio denies a permit for a Memorial Day parade. One would almost think that dems don’t really give a shit about veterans and their families.
    I hope that Thunder Run and the vets on Staten Island go ahead with their plans, and give the one-fingered salute to Joe and the NY commie.

  9. MK75Gunner says:

    Fuck him and his permit. Just march. What’s he gonna do about it? Are the cops gonna arrest a bunch of Veterans on Memorial Day? I would think not.

    Warren Wilhelm, the squeegee man’s best friend – the mayor whose police turned their backs on him when he spoke. As the Cuban CO said in the original Red Dawn “The people are fortunate to have such a shepherd tending their flock.” He looks like a strong candidate to be tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail (preferably the third).
