Civilian Climate Corps Proposal

| May 10, 2021

Ben Garrison. (GRRRGRAPHICS.COM)

Looking for a $15.00 an hour job with full health care coverage, educational grants of $25,000 for each year of service up to $50,000? If Alexandria Cortez and others in Congress get their way, and Joe Biden signs something like this into law, you could be in luck.

From the Washington Examiner:

Alongside liberal Sen. Ed Markey, the congresswoman is proposing that the federal government hire 1.5 million people to “reduce carbon emissions, enable a transition to renewable energy, build healthier and more resilient communities, implement conservation projects with proven climate benefits, and help communities recover from climate disasters.” It would spend $10 billion in taxpayer money on these jobs, which would last up to 5 years, pay $15 an hour, and come with healthcare benefits. So, too, the initiative would reserve large portions of the funding for “environmental justice.”

And it’s not just a pipe dream. President Joe Biden explicitly included this idea in his multitrillion-dollar “infrastructure” proposal. The craziness has White House support. This makes its implementation much more feasible than if it was just wish-casting from a few liberal legislators. That should alarm taxpayers.

From the proposal:

To attract the broad and diverse group of corpsmembers necessary to accomplish the crucial work of the CCC and Partner Corps, all corpsmembers are guaranteed the following benefits:

– Salary and benefits: Compensation of at least $15 per hour, full health care coverage, and critical support services such as transportation, housing, and childcare.

– Educational Funding: Enabling educational grants of $25,000 per year of service, up to $50,000, eligible for further education at any level or to pay down student debt.

– Career Opportunities: All corpsmembers will be provided with a job and career pathway during their service and corps will prioritize registered pre-apprenticeship curricula and union membership as part of service. Corpsmembers will receive vocational training appropriate to the local job market. Guaranteed follow-up services will help track corpsmembers’ professional and career progress.

You could read the whole proposal here, and the Washington Examiner puts this in wider context.

Sounds a lot like how the SS and SD got started.

Yet another Alexandria Occasional-Cortex brainstorm…..rather, brainsquall.

Can’t wait for the training to begin. You arrive at your destination at 0Dark30 on an environmentally friendly mode of transportation; you are ushered into a barracks powered by wind, but there is no power because the only thing that blows is the chow; you get your cut to fit the current regulations, which happens to be a man bun, regardless of what gender you identify as today; and you are issued your Mao Zedong jacket and Che Guevara t-shirt and are set loose on the population to re-educate them.

What will they serve in the chow hall, Soylent Green?

In essence, you’re selling your soul to the federal government.

May your chains rest lightly on your shoulders.

$15/hr for make work jobs doing CCC type manual labor?

These idiots can’t be bothered to get off the couch for the $18-21/hr Walmart is offering in my town.

My math says 1.5M people X 40K a year in salary and benefits is $60B not $10B. That is before tuition, buying a stick of furniture or transporting anything anywhere.

And yeah, none of them are going to work for $15/hr when they can bate on the couch all day for more money.

There are currently 2.1M Federal employees, so they want to nearly double the size of the government.

Is this obamas idea since he is running the country.??

Probably, or it’s Moooochelle’s idea, cuz, well, you know….

I’m balls deep into this idea!

You want to curb carbon? Take one million of these folks and give them shovels, axes, and sws and have them grub out the underbrush in our national forests. Most of them have had no forestry maintenance in decades. We spend billions each year and the wildfires pump millions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere with each fire season. Of course, the other half million will need to be given guns to keep the other lazy bastards on the job.

Jawohl, comrade!

Remember the old Job Corps in the 70s? The Carter Administration hired youths to plant trees, shrubs, (and pot) around the federal buildings. Dopers, hippies, slackers, and flower children were recruited. A probation officer friend told me about a mother who wanted her kids to work there for the summer. He talked her out of it; referred to it as the felony academy.

I got one of those type jobs, but we worked at the preserve doing actual needed maintenance: Trimmed paths and “roads” so that they could actually use them, rebuilt an outdoor amphitheater, built some pedestrian and light vehicle bridges, cleared poison ivy…great job.

I remember taking the bus to MEPS in Kansas City to ship for Basic, also on board was a kid younger than me bragging that he was getting a good ride out of the Job Corps while he showed his pot pipes off to me!
