South Dakota AG’s Army Reserve promotion being held up after fatal car accident

| May 5, 2021

SD AG Jason Ravnsborg

Somehow it looks like we missed talking about this story when it originally happened. South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg (an elected Republican) last September who it seems hit and killed a pedestrian. He also is a lieutenant colonel in the US Army Reserve.

The accident has a lot of questions left unanswered. Ravnsborg hit something (he claims he doesn’t know what it was, thinking it was a large animal) while driving home at night. The damage to the car was enough to make it undriveable. He called 911 to report the incident and received some preferential treatment from the county sheriff (the sheriff gave him his own personal car so Ravnsborg could continue home).

For some reason, Ravnsborg the next day says he retraced his route and found the body of 55 year-old Joseph Boever, who he’d apparently struck and killed the night before. He says he was going back to look for the carcass of the deer he’d hit, which is odd to say the least. Investigators also found the deceased’s reading glasses inside the Attorney General’s car, suggesting that Boever’s head came through the windshield of Ravnsborg’s car.

In February, Ravnsborg was charged with three misdemeanors, including careless driving, driving out of his lane and operating his car while using his phone. He remains the AG despite calls from both sides of the political aisle for his resignation.

One other career unhindered by his poor nighttime driving is his Army one. Ravnsborg was selected for promotion to full bird colonel. He announced the promotion on his Facebook page and changed the profile picture to the silver eagle insignia of rank for colonel. This drew ire since he’s got active civilian criminal charges pending.

Army Times reports;

“Army Reserve leadership is aware of the tragic incident allegedly involving LTC Jason Ravnsborg and is following applicable Army regulations and policies,” Lt. Col. Simon B. Flake, an Army Reserve spokesman, said in an emailed statement first reported by local news.

“Soldiers pending investigation by civilian law enforcement authorities and/or civilian criminal proceedings may still be eligible for selection for promotion, but the Army Reserve retains discretion regarding actual promotion,” Flake added. “In this case, relevant Army Reserve leaders will monitor the ongoing civilian proceedings and make further decisions at the appropriate time.”

Thanks to Jeff LPH 3 for sending this one in. We’ll be sure to monitor it further.

It used to be when I read something like this, I’d hope it wasn’t a veteran or AD military member even Reservist, or if it were it would be a SV POS because of the shade that will be thrown. Now, my first thought is, hope the victim is white. And a Conservative if not a Republican.

Countdown til the vultures in the media and on the left (but I repeat myself) use this to hang Kristi Noem.

Hell, I hit a deer last fall… and knew EXACTLY what I hit. Too, I wasn’t drunk and trying to avoid consequences. I know the Pentagon tries to be impartial, but in cases this serious, even promotion consideration should be suspended.

UpNorth

I’ve hit four over my driving career, and I knew each time that I had hit one. These were all out in the country, no street lights, and yet, I could plainly see that I had hit a deer. This seems to be a case of hope I get home and don’t hit anyth….oh shit.

Roh-Dog

In my state involuntary vehicular manslaughter gets you 11 points on your ‘loicense’, with an additional ticketable factor you’ve earned yourself a suspension! In addition to that inconvenience, IVM is also one of those crime-type thingies.

Wait a minute Mason, this dude is a republican, and according to a certain leftist mouth-breather, those of us on this site never call out republicans for doing bad shit, only leftist like him..

It couldn’t be that he’s full of shit, could it??

I’m soooo confused…

2banana,
Or Harrisburg.
1999
Former US Marine killed by a hit and run driver in Harrisburg, PA.
And then the attempted cover up and political drama unfolded.

(Druce) – “I struck what I thought was a sign in the roadway,
but I never saw what I hit.
I was alone in my vehicle. I was not intoxicated.
I simply wasn’t looking.”

And now this Marine killer F wad Tom Druce
lives in a gated Yacht Club in Orange Park, Florida.
Ugh.
RIP KRC.

MarineDad61

But you know,
If I show up at the Yacht Club
wearing a black hood and robe,
and carrying a long sickle,
then somehow I’m the bad guy.
(Classic clip here.)

I’ve hit plenty of deer over the years. Twice the deer ended up quite a ways from the roadway, once I couldn’t it till the next day. But never was it wearing glasses

He in deep kimchi.

Char Gatlin

Yeah.

This dude is fucking moron and a lair.

Maybe he was on his way to pick up Cal Cunningham from some Army dude whore wife’s house on the way to drill…?

HE put himserf in VELLY deep Kimchi, Adashi!

Query: Why was the fellow who was struck by the AG’s car wearing “reading glasses” on the side of a dark road at night? Asking for a friend named S. Holmes.

5JC

Reading a map? Texting? Could be a lot of reasons. Or he might not have been wearing them at all. During an MVA, Athens tend to explode in all directions.

5JC

Things not Athens, damn slow auto correct.

timactual

I wear mine pretty much all the time. Easiest and safest place to carry them.

KoB

Different spanks for different ranks? Me thinks he has a lot of ‘splainin’ to do, Lucy.

And as OAM pointed out, the vultures will blame Noem…or Trump.

This has the same credulity of all the stories I was told by junior enlisted folks explaining how the popped on the piss test.
“Ya see, I never touched the stuff, but I was at this party. . . .”

MI Ranger

Yeah, I can personally attest that you have to inhale to get it to pop! Before I came into the Army I was working for a private bus company that sub-contracted a city contract. We suddenly had to take piss tests to get the routes (suddenly all the old timers were scrambling for the crappy routes). I attended a concert the day before I had mine, and everyone thought it was funny to blow it in my face, with several cutties doing the French kiss after a hit…I did not care if I got the route so I wasn’t worried. It did not even register enough to be noticed!

The only excuse I ever even remotely believed was a kid from Columbia who claimed he drank tea on leave. He stayed clean afterwards so we believed the claim.
