No Means No (Bangs Gavel)

Speaker Pelosi objects to “court packing”, which is adding 4 judges to the Supreme Court.

Note: Sorry about the ‘toon, it was the only one I could find with Her Speakership on it.  Then I realized that it was very pertinent to this post.

There is a crack in the shell surrounding the House of Representatives. The headlong rush to alter what already works quite well, e.g., the Supreme Court, by adding four more justices to those already sitting is being thwarted by the one person who is so iron-fisted she could squeeze blood out of a turnip.

From the article:   Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday she has “no plans” to bring a Democratic-led bill to expand the Supreme Court to the House floor for a vote, while saying such an idea is “not out of the question.”

Pelosi was asked during a press briefing if she supported a bill brought forward by House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) to expand the Supreme Court by four seats and if she would bring it to the House floor.

“No. I support the president’s commission to study such a proposal, but frankly I’m not — right now, we’re back, our members, our committees are working. We’re putting together the infrastructure bill and the rest,” Pelosi said.

“I don’t know if that’s a good idea or a bad idea. I think it’s an idea that should be considered and I think the president’s taking the right approach to have a commission to study such a thing. It’s a big step,” she continued.

Pelosi added re: expanding the court: “It’s not out of the question. It has been done before in the history of our country a long time ago. And the growth of our country, the size of our country, the growth of our challenges in terms of the economy, etc., might necessitate such a thing.” – article.

I sincerely hope this means that there are cracks in the shell surrounding the nutballs in WDC. I also sincerely hope that this and other subjects like it become such an issue of disparity amongst the Democrats that they start to split, and split hard.

I can also sincerely say that I have never respected Speaker Pelosi more for saying “NO” to this idea.

I agree with you Ex-PH2. I hope she sticks to her denial of this. I hope and hope comes pretty thin and sparse when it comes to DC.

It was done in the past for the same reason Biden wants it now. FDR called the Supreme Court, “nine old men of the horse and buggy days”. Because he didn’t like their decisions. They were simply getting in his way. Well, the same is happening now. Biden wants to pack the court to 13 and then the Dems will have control of the House, Senate, and the Oval Asylum, and the Supreme Court. Noone and nothing sacred to our nation will be safe.

I think she will stand on this until some commission from Biden gives it the thumbs up, then she will drag it to the front of the House herself.

The Dems will never let the separation and balance of powers designed in our Constitution get in the way of their control of everyone if they can help it.

The only reason Pelousi won’t bring up the Court Packing bill now is because she has to work on making DC at state first. Then Puerto Rico is next. That will give the D-rats 54 senators. With a few RINO’s supporting their moves, the D-rats will likely have enough senators for filibuster-proof legislation.

agree…the counter move is to offer statehood to Samoa and Guam.

Also, states like NY, CA, OR, WA, IL, and MI are ripe for breaking into smaller states.

Imagine a world where CA is broken into North and South CA or NY broken into East and West NY.

As for DC becoming a state. No. DC should have only 2 families resident in it. The President and VP. The only rational argument for statehood is to make north of the Patomic River part of MD the way the southern section was made part of VA.

The PDRMD deserves them anyway

It’s ok SarMaj, I knew Pat O’Mac too. Fine Irish Lad! He did like his whiskey.

Another Skrunt whose obit I will read with great pleasure. And as posted above, she is working her own game plan. We all know that sniffy joe didn’t come up the idea to “study” this, or any issue. He is being told what to say and what to do.

I hate to break it to you, but it’s Potomac.

Don’t worry. That’s happened to me a time or two.

Pentatonic River?

Unfortunately breaking a state into two or more is much more difficult than making a new state.

There are smart people in the Dem caucus who understand that once you open this Pandora’s box, there’s no shutting it. Dems increase the court to 13? OK, next time Republicans are in office they’ll raise it to 19. Or 23. Or 35.

By the time it’s all said and done, the SCOTUS, which is (in theory) the “non-political” branch of government is essentially just a third legislative house with one important difference: Unlike Congress (which controls the $$) and the President (who controls the military, law enforcement and executive agencies), the SCOTUS has no means of actually enforcing any of its edicts.

There was even a famous SCOTUS decision that said that: “The court has no purse and no sword” and therefore must rely in its persuasiveness to enforce its directives.

Dumb Democrats are playing the short game, not realizing that it doesn’t take much to tip the balance of power against them. I’m guessing most of the young Dems who support this were in diapers or not even born in 1994 when the Democratic party got its ass handed to it in the mid term elections.
