LIVE UPDATES: Minnesota police, rioters clash after Daunte Wright shooting; dozens arrested

Police shot and killed Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, during a traffic stop Sunday

Minnesota authorities arrested about 40 people after rioters and police clashed for a second night in Brooklyn Center, Minn., authorities said during a news conference early Tuesday.

Hundreds gathered outside the Brooklyn Center Police Department Monday and defied curfew. They demanded justice for Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man fatally shot by police during a traffic stop.

The crowd chanted “Daunte Wright!” Some shouted obscenities at officers.

Authorities fired tear gas, and flash-bang grenades into the crowd after warning them that they were in violation of curfew. Some rioters retaliated by throwing smoke canisters back toward law enforcement, while others launched fireworks at the police lines, according to reports.

“Move back!” the police chanted. “Hands up! Don’t shoot!” the crowd chanted back.

Authorities said officers were shelled “pretty significantly,” with objects thrown from the crowd. A few officers were hit by debris and suffered minor injuries during the unrest, police said.

Minnesota State Patrol Col. Matt Langer said law enforcement officials made attempts to talk with protest leaders about figuring how to peacefully disperse the crowds, but “unfortunately, those efforts weren’t successful … so … [we] stood and protected that building.”

The roughly 40 arrests were made at the Brooklyn Center Police Department protest, Langer said. He added that people were arrested for violations including breaching curfew and rioting.

Doubtless those arrested are already back home, resting up for another evening of festivities. We have members in the area, stay safe but be prepared. Read the entire article here: Fox News

  1. How come you don’t see this in one party socialist countries? Because you can get run over by tanks or shot by the military troops down in south america. Since we are heading to a one party socialism by fixing voter ballots and talking about packing the supreme court judges we are heading in that direction under the new Kremlin supreme ruler and his ventriloqist handler.

Don’t worry Jeff, we’ll get there soon enough. These riots and the pandemic have shown that there are plenty in government who want to take extreme positions for the “emergency”. What they don’t tell you is that the emergency will never end.

      Well, sometimes seen briefly…

Don’t forget Burma aka Myanmar. Its military has already killed over 600 protestors. As for Gropey Joe, I think you mean his Beijing supreme ruler, cuz the ChiCom’s have much more ability to influence the JoBama admin than Putin does.

  2. Hack Stone says:

Much like some call for a total withdraw from Afghanistan, as it is not worth the blood and treasure of our troops, maybe they should withdraw all law enforcement, and let them rule themselves, as they demonstrated so well in Portland last summer with CHAZ. It wouldn’t be the first time that Minnesota politicians turned their cities over to the criminal element.

    • UpNorth says:

Rep. Rashida Tlaib D-Dearbornistan, wants to do away with all policing and incarceration.
she’s probably the spokesjerk for the “Squad” on this.

There wouldn’t be much to worry about with BLM or Antifa or rioting, if there were no police. Her and her “woke” Squad have no clue as to what would happen.

    • Koekepan says:

I hate to be that guy, but quick correction:

CHAZ/CHOP was Seattle. Portland was more like the long-term Antifa practical training grounds, with a complicit mayor and city government.

Let me be very clear, both cities enjoyed an abundant harvest of stupidity from their long and diligently improved fields of pandering, but the manifestations were a little different.

    Clear the area as ordered.

If we cannot do that then we cannot have law and order.

  5. Commissar says:

It was a pretty stupid shooting.

Not only are you supposed to carry your taser on your non-dominant side, you are supposed to deploy it with ONLY your non-dominant hand.

How she made this mistake is bewildering. But she is not the first officer to do it.

One of the primary reasons you supposed to use your non-dominant side for your taser is to help avoid this kind of mistake.

Additionally, assuming you have your taser out because you do not believe lethal force is necessary it allows your dominant hand to be free to revert to lethal force with your firearm without dropping your taser if things escalate quickly.

And, if things remain non-lethal it allows you to help control the situation with your dominant hand while using the taser to incapacitate the suspect.

So there no reason to ever have your taser in your dominant hand,

I heard she actually had her taser on her non dominant side…which makes this mistake even more bewildering.

You snowflakes all are so damn triggered over defending AOC.

Meanwhile, MTG you regard as brilliant.

      A bunch of clowns.

    • 5JC says:

Commissar, as usual, you are incorrect. While it is true that Taser are recommended to be drawn with the non-dominant hand they are normally deployed from the dominant hand.

    • MTFAO says:

Unless you have a copy of that department’s use of force/taser policy in hand; and have a current certification as a law enforcement taser instructor, you should refrain from commenting on how a taser should be used by law enforcement. It is recommended to carry the taser on the opposite hip from the pistol so it is a conscious decision to deploy the taser vice the pistol. However, many departments carry the taser in cross draw configuration. There are arguments for and against crossdraw for the taser. Personally as a LEO I prefer to set up for weakhand draw with the taser for the reason you stated. But, this is all dictated by agency policy and training. The bottom line is the cop in question made a horrible mistake in the heat of the moment with tragic consequences. This will all come out in the investigation that is going on now in her department and likely in the city/county atty’s office. I prefer to wait till that investigation is complete before commenting so I have all the facts. Unless you have been in a similar situation as a LEO then armchair quarterbacking what happened shows how little you truly know.

      • Hondo says:

Unless you have a copy of that department’s use of force/taser policy in hand; and have a current certification as a law enforcement taser instructor, you should refrain from commenting . . . ”

Lack of knowledge of the facts and/or lack of relevant expertise has never prevented him from running his yap to date. Do you really expect that to change?

      • 5JC says:

This is a much better answer than mine. Put me in MTFAO camp.

  6. nbcguy54ACTUAL says:

One thing that 6 January proved was that the leftists are perfectly fine with unarmed “protestors” being shot.

A word to the wise should be sufficient….

Bet there was still not ONE (1) pair of work boots looted.

Sure was nice and quiet while the spapos seagull was gone. “Those were the days my friends…”

Those stores burned and looted won’t be back.

  9. Commissar says:

So apparently the department trained their officers to wear their taser on their non-dominant side.

    which is correct.

But also trained them to draw their taser across their body with their dominant hand.

    Which is fucking idiotic.

    • SFC D says:

It’s called cross-draw and is pretty much the standard. Were you not consulted on its efficacy? Shameful.

      • A Proud Infidel®™ says:

I still think that Major Moonbat DID NOT make it past the probationary period with whatever Departments that hired him which is the biggest reason that he’s no longer an LEO.

        • UpNorth says:

No doubt about it, API. Can you imagine having to spend a shift in a cruiser with that asshat, as his Field Training Officer? When spends 9 hours telling you, his FTO, how the job should be done?
Or having him follow you to a coffee shop for a break?

      • 5JC says:

The reasoning behind using the dominant hand is so that you only have one gun shaped object in your hand at a time. That way you don’t use the wrong one.

I too am shocked that they did not consult commie. I hear he almost made it through his rookie year as a LEO and is therefore an expert on all things police related.

  10. Forest Bondurant says:

It’s shameful how protesters continue to cry “hands up, don’t shoot”, which is based on a false narrative – and debunked after the truth came out on the Michael Brown shooting – which just goes to prove they aren’t interested in hearing the facts first.

    They aren’t interested in justice.

    • 5JC says:

Don’t forget about the racist white cop that shot Trayvon Martin. Except for the parts about him being racist, white and a cop its all true.

BLM epitomizes the philosophy of never letting the truth get in the way of a good story.
