Portent of Floyd Trial Aftermath

| April 12, 2021

A fatal police shooting during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, sparked protests and demonstrations just miles away from where George Floyd was killed last year. The driver, identified as Daunte Wright, had a warrant and got back into the vehicle as officers were trying to take him into custody. Details are sketchy, but he was shot after attempting to elude and crashed out.
The ensuing riot was completely predictable.

National Guard deployed in Minneapolis after fatal police shooting of Daunte Wright

By Lee Brown

The National Guard was deployed in Minneapolis as hundreds of people looted and rioted into the early hours Monday after a black man was shot dead while trying to flee arrest less than 10 miles from where George Floyd died.

The fatal shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center came as the Twin Cities was already in a state of high alert over the trial of ex-cop Derek Chauvin, charged with Floyd’s murder last May.

Wright, who had an outstanding warrant, had been pulled over around 2 p.m. Sunday — and was shot after jumping back in his car and trying to race away, crashing to a stop after driving several blocks, police said.

His mother had quickly raced to the scene — and called for calm as crowds soon joined her there, local media said.

But within hours, at least 500 protesters had taken to the streets, according to the Star Tribune — many looting and trashing up to at least 20 stores, officials later revealed.

“Hey! They’re coming!” a man was heard yelling on one video that captured several people running out of a looted store with their hands full of stolen items as nearby car horns repeatedly honked. Other videos appeared to show groups doing victory dances as they left completely trashed stores.

As many carried Black Lives Matter banners through the streets, protesters jumped on top of police vehicles — and started throwing rocks and other projectiles at officers, officials said.

Protesters even “shot up” a police precinct in neighboring Brooklyn Park, with multiple rounds fired through the front door, some reaching the lobby, officials told Fox 9. No one was injured in the attack.

Police fought back against the violent protesters with tear gas, flash bangs and rubber bullets.

Expect much more of this at the conclusion of the Chauvin trial, regardless of the jury’s findings. The entire article may be read, among many other sources, here: New York Post

This is the “new normal”. Any excuse for a riot and looting.

From the news story:

““Hey! They’re coming!” a man was heard yelling on one video that captured several people running out of a looted store with their hands full of stolen items as nearby car horns repeatedly honked.”

That, folks, is the driving motivation behind these events: Easy-peasy loot and the sheer joy of trashing and burning the property of someone who has more than you do.

Poetrooper

Apparently fomenting such rioting and looting can be very lucrative as Jack Posobiec reports in the NY Post story, “Black Lives Manors”:

Didn’t these LEOS here of the Fergesson effect. Just ticket parkers, hang out and coop behind a building, go nice and slow on gun runs and domestic disputes etc so you can go home alive and not worry about demonstrators in front of your house. The effect mostly applies to what neighborhood your sector is in. They should have just let him drive off with a slow car chase. He gets away and no rioting/looting. Just saying.

While other places were defunding their police we got a 20% raise last year. This was because officers were quitting in droves. It stopped the bleeding but wasn’t enough to get anyone to sign up for a job this challenging.

When in I was hired in 2013 after I retired most departments would get 10-20 applications for every position. These days it is about 1:1 (after initial screening).

But no Ferguson effect here. Everything is pretty much same. Just short handed.

The news reports (FOX) are saying the Police Officer who was making the arrest made a negligent discharge (she said “Taser, Taser, Taser” but pulled her service pistol and fired) when she followed the suspect back to his car. The Mayor (who looks like Tiger Woods) wants her fired…without due process.
From the video they are showing her only mistake was what she said, not what she did! More training, not firing is needed!

No difference between these assholes and the assholes that led the insurrection on the Capitol on 6JAN2021.

Hang. 👏 All. 👏 Seditionists. 👏 No. 👏 Exceptions. 👏👏👏👏👏

5JC

That was a mostly peaceful drive by of the police station.

Really?
Show me the rioting, burning, (major) breakage, and (major) looting that went on at the DC (District of Criminals) protest 6 Jan 2021.
I will admit there was minor breakage of a few interior windows – and some asshole in “disguise” lifted PeeLousi’s laptop (I’d LOVE to see a forensic analysis of the contents – after all, it IS the People’s Business) – but nothing compared to the temper tantrums being thrown now over assholes being assholes.

You forgot Bela Pelosi’s podium/lectern, right? Didn’t someone run off with that??

The Other Whitey

There was no insurrection at the Capitol. It wasn’t “stormed.” Capitol Police (who answer to Nancy Pelosi) opened the doors, encouraged protesters to enter, then initiated violence without provocation or warning.

I can’t believe the behavior of the descendants of the Swedish settlers of Minnesota.

Kidding aside, I suspect this shooting will come in over $20 million for the family members.

That’s a lot of Swedish meatballs.

rgr769

Da-untay will likely make Ben Crump a couple of million and his family will likely clear about 12 million after attorneys’ fees and costs. Hope his momma and his baby momma don’t blow it all before his illegitimate son reaches majority.

rgr769

Welp, my prediction proved accurate; Benny Crump of Trayvon fame is on the case. He will be banking some serious coin this year.

The police chief of that agency said that the officer that shot the driver meant to draw his taser instead of his gun. That officer has been fired.

What a mess.

5JC

Her taser, not his.

Sapper3307

She also burned her face answering the iron.

MI Ranger

Her. The Union rep stated she will have due process. The Mayor (who looks like Tiger Woods) wants her fired…without due process.

It was a female officer that shot him. I watched the body-cam footage of her. A black male officer was trying to get him into handcuffs when be broke free and got back into the driver’s seat of his car, attempting to flee. She can be heard telling him to stop or she will taze him; she shouts “tazer, tazer” but she has her Glock pointed at his torso. The shot is fired as he attempts to drive away. She then says, “Oh shit, I shot him.” Donte drives away, but crashes up the street.

The traffic stop was not soley because he had an air-freshener hanging from his rearview mirror. His vehicle has expired tags. But anything hanging from the rearview mirror is against state law. Once stopped, the officers ran him and found an outstanding bench warrant for failure to appear. That is why they were arresting him.

Had he not resisted arrest, he would have likely been OR’d after promising to appear before the court, or some small bail amount would have been required, as the case against him is a misdemeanor. Apparently Black males have been indoctrinated to, or have adopted the principle, that they should always try to escape when police attempt to detain or arrest them. It often doesn’t end well for them. I might add that our DRT may be a gang member, as multiple photos of him are posted on social media where he is flashing gang signs. In one gang sign photo he has a semi-auto pistol by his side.

rgr769

Correction: I misspelled his name. It is “Daunte.” I guess you pronounce it Da oon tay; sorta like “Ay Ay Ron” by a certain substitute teacher.

Poetrooper

Ol’ Poe had to look up “Ay Ay Ron”. Good grief…is that what passes for humor nowadays?

rgr769,

Once again you are correct. The common denominator in all the “high profile” shootings that have spurred “protest” (disguised very well as looting) is non-compliance with police. Do what they say, live another day…

I live in Apple Valley, MN which is about 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, and I didn’t hear anything about this on our local news stations.
They cover the Chauvin trial as if it’s a sporting event (“we give you gavel to gavel coverage, and full information on all the players” as one of their promos went). But as for anything that smacks of “racism”; that is, a black criminal doing criminal things, the way criminals do regardless of color; they are silent as a church on a Saturday night.

Has the new Supreme Ruler at the DC Kremlin chimed in about this yet. The Fuhrer/Reichstag term I have been using went by by after QMC mentioned after one of my comments that it is more of a Stalinist thing. Thankyou QMC for the tip.

UpNorth

Yes, Pedo Joe is distressed that there was looting. Protests fine, but looting goes too far.
On another note, what police administrators should do is find more shit to hang on officer’s gunbelts. Mace, handcuffs(usually X2), 2 pistol magazines, a pistol and a taser, and sometimes a first aid pouch aren’t nearly enough for an officer to carry, much less try to grab the right one in times of high stress.

“But within hours, at least 500 protesters had taken to the streets…many looting and trashing up to at least 20 stores…”

Yea, that is what they were after, loot. They did not know the man shot and many would have killed him for what he had in his wallet. It was just time for more drugs, a bigger TV or stereo, and anything else they could steal.

I do not believe myself to be prejudiced nor a racist. It is difficult for me to understand why the blacks in these large cities think it so unjust when others view them so poorly.

They do exactly the things which those who think the worst of them point to.

It is hard for me to see the better side of those who take from the taxpayers their whole lives and then at every opportunity, steal, burn and wreak havoc on their neighbors, their community stores, and the police.

This makes about as much sense as looting, burning, and pillaging because your favorite team lost the playoffs. That is how it appears to me because it happens with any and nearly every incident, great or small, right or wrong that offers the opportunity to act criminally.

KoB

Spot on Sparks…Nailed it…every paragraph. And as pointed out above, all he had to do was obey the LEO’s instructions. He decided to make a run for it. It’s too bad for the female officer that pulled her Glock instead of the Taser. I’m of the opinion that, like George Floyd, this “fine upstanding urban entrepreneur” would’ve done something, sooner than later, that would have cut his life short. I have sympathy for the LEO. This dude? None.at.all!

rgr769

The DRT was a 20 year-old gangster who FTA’d on an illegal handgun charge, though it was only a misdemeanor. He likely would have been back on the street in less than 24 hours if he complied and let the officers do their job that required they arrest him. For the uninitiated, a bench warrant is a court order that any LEO that encounters him must arrest him. In my little bedroom community, about 2/3rds of the people arrested by our local police are people arrested on outstanding warrants. They stop someone for a traffic violation or suspected DUI and when they run the driver’s license they find he or she has an outstanding warrant. In such situations, the stop always results in an arrest.

Time for me to get my street medic bag ready… it’s gonna be a hot one tonight!

As I see it, BLM and its rich supporters will bus in as many “rent-a-mobs” as they can while fleecing others for cash to replace what has been spent by its upper echelons for multiple expensive houses.

rgr769

One of the three black females that started BLM is now the proud owner of four swanky houses, including one in Topanga Canyon, where about 85% of the residents are those evil white devils.

Slow Joe

This sounds like that shooting in Oakland over 10 years ago, when a LEO shot a dude in the rail station thinking he was using a taser.

I thought one of the lessons learned from that one was that taser and handgun should be on different sides of the belt…

rgr769

That incident was worse than this one because the suspect was prone on the pavement when the officer shot him in the back as he was standing over the arrestee, while another officer was trying to cuff him.

Having these tools on opposite sides is SOP now in every department. The handgun is on the strong hand side with the taser on the other. Thus if one is a left handed shooter, the taser goes on the right side of the belt, with the handgun on the left.

11B-Mailclerk

There might also be value in changing the Taser shape such that the grip is different and the trigger is a thumb button.

Grab the wrong item and nothing happens.

Because “oops” is no defense.

rgr769

Excellent idea. I did notice a security guard at my local grocery store was wearing a taser with a very short grip and it was bright yellow.

11B-Mailclerk

We didn’t have so many of these “oops” when “less lethal” meant cracking limbs with a baton.
