Attempted Car Break-In Ends With One Person Shot

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — An attempted break-in in a Winston-Salem neighborhood ended with one person shot and in the hospital.

Neighbors tell WFMY News 2 this kind of situation happens more often than they would like.

Winston-Salem police say just after three this morning, a group of people was trying to break into a car.

A man yelled at them and when the suspects tried to run one of them was shot in the back.

“I would hate for someone’s life to get cut short because of a stupid mistake they made at a young age,” said Stephon Gatewood.

Gatewood lives a few houses down from the commotion.

He woke up this morning when police knocked on his door and tried to get more information about what happened.

Gatewood says break-ins happens all too often.

So often in fact, he tries to limit his losses.

Make sure I don’t have anything valuable in there and leave them unlocked. I would rather someone just go in there and look around rather than just break my windows and not get anything at all,” said Gatewood.

Gatewood would like to see more of a neighborhood watch to deter the break-ins.

Neanderthal

Love the Stoner, built like a SAW but hits like a 60!

“…shot in the back…” Hmmm, might not be a good shoot.

Wonder how many were Stoners back in ’63? Wonder how many Stoners ARE 63? “I was just experimenting, I never inhaled.” Riiiight!

A Stoner 63 may be just what I need to shore up that North Wall.

OK, ya buncha miscreanted ‘weeds (and the Adorable Deplorables) It’s Friday, that means the TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread will drop at some point in time. And we’ll have a Valor Friday. AND it’s pay day for my working crew. You’d of thought them porked beast chops with all the trimmings they had on evening last would have sufficed…but NOOOOOO…they want green money too. Oh well, there goes the swelling that was in my checkbook.

I’ll see y’all sometime later. Don’t get caught.

Wonder how many were Stoners back in ’63?

Back in ’63, probably not too many.

But five years or more later, well, I’d guess it was a different story. Ditto the answer to your second question. (smile)

May indeed be a bad shoot. Still, do something dumb with a potentially lethal outcome, can’t say too much when it ends badly.

Saw a story yesterday in which someone was bemoaning a guy’s 10 year sentence stemming from an argument over masking. Read the article, a few paragraphs in it adds that said miscreant started a fight, both poked the other guy in the eyes and kicked him in the balls, and sundry other damage. More than just a verbal exchange over a mask.

Solely defending against property crimes will rarely justify the use of deadly force in most jurisdictions. Shooting and killing someone breaking into your car in your driveway will get you prosecuted for voluntary manslaughter and/or second degree murder in most states, unless the miscreant imminently threatens you or another person in the process.

A pentagon police officer will be charged with murder for shooting two hoodrats breaking into cars. They both died at the hospital from their wounds. He is also being investigated for threatening a homeless woman in the lobby of his apartment building with a shotgun several months ago. Goodbye federal job and goodbye freedom.

Best practice is don’t shoot anyone unless it is absolutely necessary to protect life or limb. Besides, all the hassle, and paperwork is a bitch. Not to mention the money one will be spending on attorneys’ fees.

’63………..I was only eleven y.o., so, no Stoner for me at that time. Now add about five years………….

The Stoner were used by some US Navy Seals in Viet-Nam. Stoner had nice gun designs but lost to the Armalite co. I believe. Am doing this from memory but I maybe a little off.

Claw

“Stoner had nice gun designs”, Maybe, but from reading up on this weapon, especially from the rather frank field evaluation reports from the Marine Company Commander in Vietnam who troops had this weapon shoved at them in an effort to perform the same job as the M60 MG, it sounds like the Navy got hosed on the whole deal.

Further research reveals that the Stoner M63 cost-wise fell right in line with those horror stories of the $600/$800 dollar C-130/C-5 toilet seat covers or the $17K tranny oil drip pan for Blackhawk helicopters.

Sure am glad that weapon never passed the Army field trials and was accepted into the inventory or else we’d still have 55 or 60 year old open job orders waiting for repairs and parts at second or third shop./smile
