Woke-ism in the military

| March 27, 2021

Two stories on the topic today. First up is an opinion piece from a Marine Corps officer who has watching things unfold over the last decade and some change. If it’s hit the USMC, you can be sure the other branches are much worse.

From Soft Liberalism to Iron-Fisted Leftism in Today’s U.S. Military | Opinion

Newsweek;

In the Marine Corps, we don’t have quotas, but we do have goals. And Marines accomplish goals,” my officer-in-charge told me and a few other brand-new second lieutenants, each of us assigned to temporary recruiting duty while awaiting orders to Quantico. The captain then told us we had to sign up a certain number of college-enrolled racial minorities and females. No need to be too strict on physical fitness or academics, he said. Just bring them in.

That was in 2009. Discrimination of this sort has been an ingrained yet lamentable part of the military’s recruitment, retention and promotion practices for many years. But my fellow officers and I couldn’t have imagined that, 12 years later, our disagreement with these policies would get us labeled “racist,” “sexist,” “bigoted” or “extremists” worthy of “eradication” and “elimination” from the USMC. Yet the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps said as much in his February 22 “core values” memo.

I’m now a major in the Marine Corps Reserve and a member of a formerly all-male infantry battalion.* This past weekend we had our monthly drill period. A few days before drill, the command told us that all scheduled training on Sunday morning was canceled and replaced with a “stand-down to address extremism in the ranks.”

It was left-wing political programming, as direct as it sounds.

We were instructed that there is a Taliban-like threat in the United States called “domestic terrorism.” These terrorists are characterized in part by “anti-government,” “anti-authority” or “abortion-related” extremism and various “supremacist” ideas. None of these terms are defined. The Marine Corps entrusts the government’s HR department to figure that out.

Reporting requirements are key. Do you suspect someone supports an “extremist ideology?” Alert the chain of command. Have you heard a Marine express “contempt toward officials?” Notify the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Don’t handle anything on your own. Just rat them out. After all, “service is a privilege” and it’d be a shame to lose that privilege for failing to do your part to stamp out “extremists.” One PowerPoint slide posed this imperative in stark terms: “Do you want to be a Marine or do you want to be part of an organization that sows disunity and hate. You cannot have divided loyalties.”

Special Operations Command Hires Diversity and Inclusion Chief Who Posted Anti-Trump Memes

Why in the fuck does SOCOM need a “Diversity and Inclusion Chief?” The whole point of special operations is to select the best of the best based entirely on abilities. It’s exclusionary by design, intent, and purpose! Even better, the woke administration chooses someone who is clearly biased. They don’t even try to hide it. Let the purges commence!

From Breitbart;

United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) has hired as its first “chief of diversity and inclusion” a person who posted anti-Trump memes on his Facebook page, including one that compared the former president to Adolf Hitler.

SOCOM posted about Richard Torres-Estrada’s hire on Thursday:

After his hire was announced, some of Torres-Estrada’s apparent social media posts began circulating.

A Facebook account appearing to belong to Torres-Estrada posted on June 2, 2020: “Here I leave this and slowly retire (to continue working from home)…” along with a meme of then-President Donald Trump, holding up a bible in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church after Black Lives Matter protesters set fire to it, next to a photo of Hitler.

Breitbart News reached out to a spokesman for SOCOM on Friday afternoon, asking, “Does SOCOM have a statement on why he was hired at SOCOM to be the diversity and inclusion chief when his posts could be seen as partisan, and concerning for members of the military and SOCOM community who supported Trump?”

The spokesman responded, “We are aware of the allegations and are looking into them now.”

Joe Kent, retired U.S. Army Special Forces chief warrant officer 3, who spent more than 20 years in special operations and completed 11 combat deployments, criticized Torres-Estrada’s posts.

“Looks like the new diversity officer loves celebrating diversity with those who agree with him. Here is what he thinks of the rest of us- Mr. Torres-Estrada was not placed in US Special Operations command by mistake,” Kent tweeted.

Kent added: “The left is not hiding the fact that they are in control & have the power to cleanse the ranks of those who do not submit He is one of the reason you see so much woke tweeting from Sr Mil leaders They are pledging their loyalty to the new order & cleansing themselves of the old.”

He added: “Special ops leans heavily right, that’s why Biden’s team put such an outspoken monitor in SOCCOM & is not having him tidy up his social media, it’s a not so subtle warning. Special ops leans right but honorably serves our nation, regardless of what party POTUS is from.”

This is just wrong on so many levels. Now freedom of thought and belief are being removed from the military.

This ass hat in SOCOM is a joke. What is his purpose? To make sure there is a female SOCOM member with braids and 3 months pregnant?

Anonymous

Winning wars is out, showing loyalty through self-flagellation is in.

HMCS(FMF) ret

The asshat is nothing more than a commissar in today’s military…

pfdr

Isn’t the correct term “zampolit”?

Anonymous

Da, comrade, is correct!

26Limabeans

Is that jizz on his glasses? Sure looks like it.

Reminds me of “Associate Bob” from Demolition Man:

Gawd, what’s next, SEALs in heels?

Sapper3307

WE have that already.

Doc Savage

Ah,yes…..it was only a matter of time before PC diversity Commissars were introduced into the force structure.

SIG HEIL to the new 1,000 year 4th Reich which is now taking over the Military. WOW as I’ve mentioned before, THIS SHIT CAN’T GET ANY BETTER. I put the caps on for the very very very few of us seniors in the over 70+ commenters on the site.

The Other Whitey

From the linked article:

In his memo, Austin announced that the Department of Defense “will not tolerate…actions associated with extremist or dissident ideologies”

“Will not tolerate dissident ideologies.” Wow. That’s got to be the most unconstitutional and un-American sentence I’ve come across….ever. It contradicts everything we’ve ever been taught America is supposed to stand for. And this came from the new Secretary of Defense*. Every syllable of that sentence drips fascism. It’s disgusting.

So now what?

* Austin’s legitimacy is questionable, as the United States currently does not have a president or vice president. Austin was appointed by a fraudulently-installed cabal illegally exercising (and exceeding) the authority of the presidency.

Reference Other Whitey and Marine Major article. It started long before 2008. In 1972 I spent a week at a Navy Race Relations/ EEO presentation. If I was not careful, the program would have turned me into a racist.
Folks on friendly terms avoided each other after the first day. The effectiveness of the program seemed to be judged on how much Whites could be encouraged to wallow in guilt.
As years went by the sessions were shortened but the hostility to Whites intensified. With time short it was difficult to squeeze Hispanic mistreatment into the mix. The few Asian (almost totally Phillipinos) did need seem to feel slighted at being left out.
At first the Commissars were collateral duties assigned to poor-performers, later they became regular billets. Snitches lines were available but not encouraged or rewarded.
Infantry will be excellent when used against those the administration promulgates as domestic extremists, White equal righters and lawful gun owners. Against urban rioters, arsonist and looters, maybe. Against a well-disciplined foreign enemy, out-come unclear.
BTW the power-point bullet about a Marine can not have loyalty to any thing but being a Marine, what about the large number of high Washington officials who have dual citizenship? Any conflict there?
I remember when it was considered absurd to worry about any kind of danger internally from the left.

AW1Ed

Poetrooper sent a link to Mr. Torres-Estrada’s recent hire. I’m very glad the Spec Ops leadership has resolved all the other problems plaguing their community and has the luxury to indulge in this knee-jerk reaction to a non-issue, err, has the enlightened outlook to address this pressing social issue.

Jus Bill

Remember that time when Stalin purged the military ranks of non-Communists at all levels?

Chicoms are gettin’ a hard-on watching us do this to ourselves.

This crap will end on the first day of WWIII. Just hope that’s not too late.

UpNorth

If there is a first day of WWIII, it’ll already be too late.

Berliner

Missing are the preferred pronouns of the SOCOM Diversity and Inclusion Officer. How will members of SOCOM know how to address that appointed individual?

Poetrooper

Easy…”Hey dipshit…”

Sparks

So then, if I read this guy’s shit correctly, I would be out of the military by now.

Why?

I think Islam is a real threat.
I think our borders are sovereign and should be closed.
I do not believe women should be in ANY combat roles whatsoever.
I am pro-life.
I am a Christian.
I believe Democrats are out to undermine our nation at every level.
I believe Donald Trump was one of the greatest Presidents we have ever had.
I believe Joe Biben is a worthless, loser being tooled by his handlers to bring about their socialist utopia. (That is, a utopia for the upper crust Democrats in charge, serfdom for the rest of us.
And finally, I believe there are ONLY 2 sexes, male and female, and nothing in between or extra.

My list could go on, but I am sure announcing just these to my command structure, was I still serving that is, would be death by PowerPoint and then a BCD.

Note: I think 26Limabeans is right. That IS jizz on his glasses. So at least he knows where the right washrooms and glory holes are.

A Proud Infidel®™

What’s next, removal of Personnel from SOCOM at the mere accusation of a “thought crime”?

Commissar

The entire DoD that had the stand down.

We had similar briefings around era of Oklahoma City, Ruby Ridge, and Waco.

We also had see anything say something turn your busy in briefings after 9/11.

This is not “woke-ism”.

We had a bunch of fuckwits who were brainwashed into believing the election was stolen by a shitbag grifter, propaganda, and a utterly bullshit fan fiction conspiracy theory – attack our Capitol with the intent of overthrowing the will of the American voter and installing a grasping despot.

A one those present there was a disproportionate number of veterans and and military members. There was also cases of soldiers currently serving on active that openly expressed support of these actions to fellow soldiers.

They thought there was some potentially dangerous domestic terrorists & extremists serving in the 1993-1996 era.

And again in the 2001-2007 era.

These briefings are not new. And there is nothing “woke” about them.

Hell there was even a “gang activity” crackdown in 1991-1992 because of a string of incidents that made it appear there were too many former military members involved in gangs after they got out or before they came in,

The Other Whitey

From the linked article:

In his memo, Austin announced that the Department of Defense “will not tolerate…actions associated with extremist or dissident ideologies”

Try bullshitting your way around that one, Lars.

Poetrooper

Anything that Lars and his ilk don’t happen to like is extremist and dissident…

UpNorth

Just because “woke” hadn’t yet been defined, doesn’t mean those stand-downs weren’t examples of being woke, dipshit.
“They thought there was some potentially dangerous domestic terrorists & extremists serving in the 1993-1996 era.

And again in the 2001-2007 era”.

So, did the people in charge appoint hall monitors to turn in those who walked on the yellow lines?
Did they make up a position, just to conform to what they thought folks in the head sheds wanted? That’s being woke, to the extreme.
Did you watch your fearful leader’s press conference the other day? You must be so proud. The guy can’t even talk, or chew gum and breathe, and you’re worried about a president who’s not in office.

Commie-Tsar

I AM WOKE!!!

rgr769

And you are a JOKE.

Forest Bondurant

You wrote “…attack our Capitol with the intent of overthrowing the will of the American voter and installing a grasping despot.”

First of all, there was no “insurrection”.

The most common charges against those who participated in the riots include assault, resisting arrest, impeding or obstructing a law enforcement officer, entering and remaining in a restricted building, committing acts of physical violence on Capitol grounds, obstruction of official proceedings, civil disorder, and theft or destruction of private property – a combination of charges.

(Oddly enough, similar charges could (and should) be made against people who participated in riots around the country (i.e., Seattle), in which you gave aid and comfort to as a “medic”.)

Only 1 person was charged with making interstate threats against a public official. Two or 3 were charged with conspiracy to injure law enforcement officers.

Not one of the 379 people arrested so far have been charged with “insurrection” or anything close to it, and only 3 of them have been charged with carrying or possessing a firearm (0.79%).

There was no sedition either.

timactual

” there was a disproportionate number of veterans and and military members.”

LOL.
And you know this, of course, from the questionaires that were filled out by everyone in the crowd.

“We had similar briefings around era of Oklahoma City, Ruby Ridge, and Waco.”

Of course. The boy who cried wolf did so more than once.

And how useful were those briefings? I would love to see how those briefings explained Waco and Ruby Ridge where those dangerous extremists were minding their own business in their own homes until violently assaulted by the gov’t.

We’reAllDoomed

Can confirm this training. I am an army vet and a DA civilian.

The training was way too much like indoctrination. Your thoughts are now reportable. Not even joking. They even had the balls to ask people to talk and offer ideas on why people might become extremists. I kept thinking who’s dumb enough to voice an opposite opinion?

This isn’t extremist this is 1984 100%.

rgr769

Thanks for your insight, from someone who has actually experienced the brain washing sessions.

HMCS(FMF) ret

It’s a matter of time before there are little “Stazi’s” in the ranks , reporting on any deviations from “acceptable norms” to the unit commissars.

rgr769

If the commie cuttlefish was still “in the ranks,” he would be one of the first to volunteer.

Slow Joe

I had the stand down.
Real infantry has no time for bullshit.

The stand down included all types of extremist ideologies that create a break in our trust to our fellow Soldiers.

The theme was “extremism undermine our trust on our battle buddies, thus diminishing our combat readiness.”

And it is true. Soldiers can only have one loyalty, to our flag and the Republic it represents, therefore there is no room in the Army for extremism and the additional loyalties it entails.

And that’s how the wise leaders in my Chain of Command managed to avoid making this just about stupid wokism and turned it into an issue of combat readiness.

Fuckin brilliant.

rgr769

If word gets back up the chain, they may not last long. Austin is not going to tolerate any dissent from Proggy wokism. He has already said so. You all would be wise to pretend you were Gropey Joe voters and you love all forms of Progtardism.

11B-Mailclerk

Or, defy the stupid fucks and dare them to show their anti-American true nature by being what they are: treacherous lying stupid anti-American would-be tyrants.

Fuck them and defy them. Throw the fucking tea in the harbor.

11B-Mailclerk

How did the Nazis and the Soviets and the ChiComs and similar evil do so much damage?

People obeyed them when they were small and weak, and when they were making the initial demands that people go along with evil/stupid.

Get started early on defying evil, and you castrate it early, before the mass graves stage.

“This can’t be happening!”
said millions as they died.

Yes it is. Defy them before they have total control. It is -much- easier to non-violently cast off evil when it is still in “persuade and deceive” mode.

They need your cooperation.

Deny them.
