WWII Sailor Gets Birthday Wish

A WWII Sailor gets his birthday wish:  https://www.navytimes.com/military-honor/salute-veterans/2021/02/14/wwii-veteran-wants-to-be-buried-in-navy-uniform-so-she-made-one/

All his old shipmates had passed away, and his wife of 67 years had preceded him in passing on.

He did have one set of his dark blues, but they didn’t fit. Fortunately, when he went to a shop to ask for alterations, he got a new set of dark blues out of it, thanks to the generosity of someone who knew how to duplicate those old 13-button pants. Once she had his new blues tailored properly, he got the surprise of his life.

Read the story, but have a box of tissues handy. You might find yourself sniffling.

Fair winds and following seas, Mr. Hall, and a very happy birthday to you.

Awesome story. I’m really happy that my shipmate got the help he needed. I would have thought, though, that it would have been much easier if some Sailor had simply gotten him a set from the uniform shop!

And I have to say that dress blue cracker jacks are the greatest uniform ever made. I LOVE them! If you’re a fleet squid, all you have to do is fold them the way you were taught in boot camp, put them under the mattress on your rack and they are “fresh” as a daisy all the time. Not a wrinkle on them.

Put some liberty cuffs on them and you are BADASS! They look great, just like Buddusky said!

I don’t remember that line from the movie! Saw it when it first came out and really enjoyed it.

…. especially the semaphore part.

Great flick. I was convinced that Nicholson had been a Sailor. He was absolutely perfect.

Don’t re-post this one Mi’Lady Ex, it made us cry. (not that there’s anything wrong with that) It was FIRST posted here; https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=110591

The pollen, Dust Bunnies, and Onion Fairies will be out in full force…AGAIN! Another BZ to the Seamstress and a Hearty Thank You for Your Service to this Swabbie.

I know that I am going more crazy by the day, but I was reading your post on the investigations on looking into extremist organizations in the Military and referencing to the draft Kent State, went to comment and it just went POOF! and this post showed up. Did I just step into a Slide Zone?

Whew! Tanks, I weren’t sure for a minute there. Seeing things? Flashbacks? Deja View (sic) all over again? The other post did, literally, go POOF as I was typing my comment and this article appeared.

Ma Deuce? My next boat WILL be soaked in a vat of that new fangled Flex Seal stuff.

and find if it was up I could watch up to 32 trains a day go through on Youtube. When shopping for a house here we looked at several very close to the tracks….think I am glad we bought several miles away whewre I can hear ’em but don’t feel ’em. 32 a day might be a bit much!
