SecDef overruled NGB Chief on keeping troops in D.C.

| March 11, 2021

Devtun posted a link to this Fox News article in our last post on the topic. It seems that SecDef Austin overruled the Chief of the National Guard Bureau General Hokanson. Hokanson made the case that the Guard should not and cannot continue to fulfill the Capitol’s request for turning D.C. into Red Square sorry Tiananmen Square sorry an obscene show of military force (remember when the Democrats were against a military parade?).

Fox News reports;

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin overruled the chief of the National Guard Bureau with the decision to keep 2,280 National Guard troops at the U.S. Capitol, according to a memo obtained by the Fox News Channel.

Gen. Daniel R. Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, laid out in the memo his assessment that the National Guard cannot and should not fulfill the Capitol Police’s troop request at this time, making the case that the National Guard is already over-stretched due to coronavirus constraints, civil disturbances and wildfires.

“Efforts to date have not secured enough volunteers among supporting states to meet the USCP request of 2,280 soldiers, nor Option B of 1000 soldiers,” the memo stated.

“I am concerned that the continued indefinite nature of this requirement may also impede our ability to man future missions as both adjutants general and guardsmen alike may be skeptical about committing to future endeavors,” the memo stated.

The memo circulated within the White House National Security Council over the past week, Fox News Channel learned.

“Yes, the Department of Defense will be funding this as we’ve funded the previous mission, which ends at the end of the week,” Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said on Wednesday. “But that’s not how anybody’s looking at this or foisting that on the Capitol Police, that they’re looking at this as free labor.”

“They have a legitimate need,” he continued. “I’m not going to speak to specific threat. And as I’ve been trying to say over the last few days, it’s not just about the threat environment in a highly polarized, hypercharged environment that we’re in right now. It is very much about a capacity assistance to the Capitol Police as they begin to flesh out and develop what they’re going to need long term to deal with a new reality on Capitol Hill.”

The Department of Defense is reportedly considering issuing involuntary activation orders to keep National Guard troops stationed at the U.S. Capitol.

The deliberation on a mandatory activation comes after Austin said he will be extending the National Guard’s time stationed at the U.S. Capitol until May following a request from Capitol Police.

“A new reality on Capitol Hill” you say? We’ve seen this “reality” before. When MacArthur ruthlessly pushed out the Bonus Army for one. The People’s House should not be surrounded by fences, razor wire, and thousands of armed troops.

That optimism people had that General Austin would not just toe the party line is rapidly falling, I imagine.

So, (as has been pointed out to me last week, TY), are the NG troops under Title 10 or Title 32?
Maybe it’s ’bout time for some un-civil disobedience, and start bringing the NG troops home?

……….Hmmmmmm……..sound familiar? Say……Vietnam? And the Peacenik hippies?

(that’s maybe why the milly-annuals don’t like the “boomers”, we have too much accumulated memory & are able to tell them to Eff Off)

Austin is an obama turd. He also wants the military to provide gender re-assignment surgeries at no cost to the service member. Who expected anything less from him?

Isn’t Austin the one who convinced President Obama ISIS was the JV?

Don’t fence me in, 1934 and now in 2021 the song of the Reichstag’s Berghof Don’t fence me out 2021.

MK75Gunner

4,600+ Law Enforcement personnel within the NCR but we need the NG? Is there anyone outside of the most rabid leftist ideologues that believe this is anything other than a giant political propaganda stunt by the DemocRATS to smear anyone not onboard with their Hate America first agenda?

KoB

Y’all good and pissed off yet? Anybody still think that the United States of America, the land that We Love and whose Constitution we swore an oath to defend is NOT headed toward becoming a Socialistic/Marxist/Communist Country? This activity is a blatant violation of the Law of The Land. I’m sure that a certain spapos is fapfapfapfapfapfaping all over himself watching America The Beautiful sink slowly away.

The Fox Linked article had around 900 comments when I FIRST saw Devtun’s posted comment. It’s up to nearly 3K now…and climbing. Most of them feeling the same way that we are.

Time to raise them 2 Flags yet?

This is different. They are in charge now. Obey.

Austin was nothing more than a “diversity” hire, and he’s already the worst SECDEF since…well ever. Even though Colin Powell has campaigned for the last 3 democratic presidential nominees, he earned his job and was smart enough to let Stormin’ Norman run The Gulf War

Is there a tunnel or something like a hole in the
fence where the politicians come and go?
And how about supplies like ice cream for Nancy?

Here’s an idea, build a second fence outside the
first and keep them in there until 2024.

rgr769

That was a technique perfected by Caesar’s Roman Legions that was a battle ender for Gaul King Vercingetorix.

But there is a tunnel system under the building that allows the Congressrats to leave at will back to their offices in other buildings adjacent to the Capitol building. That is why AOC was back hiding in her office when the infamous “armed insurrection” that “stormed” the Capitol occurred on 1/6/2019, “a day that will live in infamy.”

Pretty sad commentary when the NGBC says that he can’t support a deployment of 1/2 of 1% of the NG force.

Hilarious they can’t find 1000 volunteers out of over 400k to the thankless job. Shows the NG members are more insightful than I previously thought.

11B-Mailclerk

I do not believe they are asking PVT Schmudlapp to volunteer. They are asking Governors to volunteer Schmudlapp.

PVT Schmudlapp, of course, is voluntold he is volunteering, or not, as the Governor decides.

I beleive the issue is the current status of folks, the Governors have to agree to it as they are still under the control of the Governor.

““Efforts to date have not secured enough volunteers among supporting states to meet the USCP request of 2,280 soldiers, nor Option B of 1000 soldiers,” the memo stated.”

So rather than having the NG to pull from they are limited to the States who have agreed to support this. All of which leads to
“The Department of Defense is reportedly considering issuing involuntary activation orders to keep National Guard troops stationed at the U.S. Capitol.”

Which would put the folks in Title 10 status and not under the control of their Governors/TAGs.

Then the subject of Posse Comitatus raises its head.

ArmyATC

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t DC a federal district or territory? If so, would Posse Comitatus apply?

Lemuel Vargas

As stated by me, The fence together w/ the National Guard will be retained indefinitely because it prevents the protesters to air their grievances even peacefully. This will allow the Dems to pass whatever laws they want to pass, including such laws as making the US Constitution null and void (obviously a satirical statement but could happen), and bury it to the thousands of pages that the Dems have been happily approving.

USMC Steve

I was under the impression that unless Federalized, the SecDef had no authority over state National Guard units. And if they are federalized, is this not a direct violation of the Posse Committatus act?

Hate_me

With unemployment plus-ups and all the other benefits of not working, I imagine even E-1s are taking a pay cut to deploy on a mission with no honor.

Think of those Veterans Day conversations over a free Applebee’s steak and an overpriced beer….

Old guy in an ugly hat: “Da Nang sucked, man. Then, a bunch of hippy fags spat on me when I got home. At least I made it home.”

Aging guy in an ugly beard: “Sir, I have nothing but respect for what you guys went through. You’re the reason we were treated so well when we got home. At least, those of us who came home in one piece.”

Guy who can’t even grow a beard: “Fuck, man! They made us smoke in a damn parking garage!”
