JUPITER, Fla. (CBS12) — A dispute between two drivers ended with one shooting the other dead on I-95 on Friday afternoon.

The northbound lanes of the highway reopened as of 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

Both of these feel-good incidents are out of Florida. Unlike states like Maryland, New Jersey, New York, etc., Florida doesn’t infringe citizens’ 2nd amendment rights. Part of the decision-making process for interactions with others includes assuming the other person has a gun on them or near-by.

Hack Stone clicked on the link regarding the young Nimikae Clark, and there was another link at the bottom for the next entry in Stupid Criminals Of The Week Thread.

Pretty sure that this was the plot to one of the late season episodes of Laverne & Shirley.

Those M1917 .45cal wheel guns with the half moon clips are what the postal service guys who emptied the mail boxes used to carry. My friends Dad showed us his when he stopped by his house to pick up his lunch one day.

From the article on the highway shooting:

“You’re allowed to meet force with force under the stand-your-ground law,” said [Ian Goldstein, a West Palm Beach defense attorney who is not involved with this case.]

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! A THOUSAND TIMES NO!

Almost every state in the union has a law that allows people to meet deadly force with deadly force when threatened with immediate violence.

That’s the simple “law of self defense” that has been around for a thousand years.

“Stand your ground” laws don’t deal with the ability to defend yourself. The issue that SYG laws deal with is whether the person, when threatened with harm, has to “run away” as opposed to responding to the force being used against them.

SYG laws are an extension of the “castle doctrine” which is if you are on your property and are threatened with force, you can respond. SYG laws just preserve your rights to be able to defend yourself without the ridiculous legal obligation to run away when you can.

It always amazes me that lawyers get the SYG laws and their meaning wrong.

That review’s .44 Magnum/.45ACP comparison is pure bullshit. The .44’s bullets have a higher ballistic coefficient (by about 20%, .209 vs. .160) making them more wind-resistant in layman’s terms, and the .44 bullet at 200 yards is still doing over 1000 fps, more than the .45 at the muzzle. And if anyone thinks a New Service is a notably better revolver than a Python… well, they have never handled either gun.

Found one of those 1917 .45’s in a VC weapons cache in IV corps. It has bone grips. It doesn’t shoot line of sight due to the frame being slightly bent but I know where to hold to hit with it. It followed me home and I kept it.
