Top enlisted soldier at Fort Hood reinstated, cleared of wrongdoing

| January 23, 2021

Command Sgt. Maj. Arthur “Cliff” Burgoyne III

An update with some much needed good news. As previously reported here: Valor Guardians, Command Sgt. Maj. Arthur “Cliff” Burgoyne was temporarily suspended for using “unprofessional language toward subordinates.” This action spiked our TAH First Alert Bullshit Detector. It seems some sanity has returned to the Multiverse, as the good CSM has been exonerated for apparently talking to his troops like they were his troops.

Our own OAM sends.

Kyle Rempfer

The senior enlisted soldier at Fort Hood, Texas, has been reinstated following an investigation into allegations that he used unprofessional language toward subordinates, according to a brief statement on the matter.

The investigation concluded Friday and determined that Command Sgt. Maj. Arthur Burgoyne’s language “was not unprofessional and he did not exhibit counterproductive leadership,” according to a statement from Army Forces Command, which oversees Fort Hood and ran the investigation.

Burgoyne was temporarily suspended in mid-December over the allegations. He was cleared of wrongdoing and placed back in his role as the command sergeant major for III Corps and Fort Hood roughly one month later.

The exact comments were not disclosed. But an Army official said on background that the language had nothing to do with race, gender, sexual orientation or sexual harassment, and was akin to the kind of “direct talk” common within light infantry formations, where Burgoyne spent much of his career.

So, he spoke the way NCOs have to their charges since the history of forever, then. Heh. Having been, as I suppose most here, on both sides of that conversation it is always better to give than to receive.

Very good. Due process worked. 35+ yr career rolls on.

USMC Steve

No, it worked THIS time. Given the pussification and political correctness currently exhibited by the Army, this is an aberration. Big Army is out of its mind.

Obama's boyfriend

Agreed. My old friends tell me that the flag officers are being indoctrinated by E-4s that diversity trumps everything else. Our enemies must be laughing their asses off as some, overweight, self identified wyman, black, jewish, eskimo who identifies as a gerbil is going to lead our troops into battle.

Good on Big Army doing the right thing. Would not like to be the sh^tbag that got their fweelin’ hurted by that big old mean man. Whining has consequences.

Can you say “Smoked”?

I knew you could.

Thank God. Some sanity for once.

Skippy

So it’s ok for a CSM to be a CSM.
Thank fucking god…

That may be the best news of the past week. Happy for him, his family and everyone who serves with him.

Pretty sure that I have already told the story about the Senior DI from my basic course… I had never heard anyone string so many “course” words together, without missing a breath, until then. He had me laughing until I couldn’t do another push up. But that didn’t slow him down. Still makes me laugh, nearly 50 years, later.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman

Is that “course”, as in, follow a direction?
Or “coarse”, as in, rough, uncouth, foul?

We might have to change your name to President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman Grammar Nazi. 😉

That leaves your mother, your girlfriend, your dog….

Well, as long as it’s not personal; that would be rude.

HMCS(FMF) ret

I probably used some of the same words the CSM used on his young Soldiers before on Sailors and Marines that needed it. And a few JO’s that needed some “guidance”.

Good news for the CSM…

OWB

Good.

“Unprofessional language,” huh? Well, OK, then.

At a time like this, you have to wonder:
“What would Basil Plumley do?”

It is too bad swagger sticks went out of style.

My favorite was when the senior drill was talking to our basic training company for the first time.

After cursing, he stopped and asked, ‘is anyone offended by foul language?’

One Soldier raised his hand.

‘Well son, what offends you?’ Senior Drill asks in a concerned tone.

‘The F-word Senior Drill Sergeant’ replies the Soldier.

‘Fuck, you mean Fuck, son?’ asks the SD.

‘Yes, SD sergeant.’

‘Well, what about shit, son, does that offend you?’

‘No, SD sergeant.’

‘Well, hell, son, I’d rather fuck than shit any day.’

We died…

Mason

TI in basic had a similar speech. It was a profanity-laced description of how he’ll avoid profanity if it offends anyone. Nobody was offended. At least nobody admitted to being offended.

SFC (R) Blizz

I struggled and still do struggle with not using foul language as a former SNCO now civilian leader. Luckily I have a lot of veterans who work for me and give me a pass, lol.

SFC D

The shop I work in is mostly former Army with the addition of 1 squid and 1 wingnut, ranks vary from E4 to E8, with a CW3 for good measure. The language can get pretty colorful, but gets turned off when anyone else is in our workspace.

Ret_25X

when I transitioned from working in the Army to another gov agency, I had to rapidly change my “dialect”….

No kidding, some of these friends of Dumbkopf get offended by phrases such as; “Your work was due yesterday but I have not received it, is the work done?” or: “I expect you to dial in to every meeting of your team unless you are on leave.”

The whining and crying that ensues is certainly something to shake your head at.

My favorite is the GS 14 on my team that has to be called before meetings and told “make sure you dial in to the meeting” or he does not even make an effort. His defense of this behavior is to tell us, “it’s not right to hold me accountable for attending meetings unless you remind me day before and day of.”

When I asked him “do you not know how to use your outlook calendar?” he got all butt hurt and acted like he was being singled out.

Of course, what I really wanted to say was something more along the lines of “awww, does him need his mommy to hold his widdle hand at work so him can be on time?”

I’m sure he would have gone full worm shit beyond retard on that one.

Jesus said “The poor you shall always have with you”. He forgot to mention the stupid.

Ret_25X

statistically, 50% of all people have an IQ below average.

Add “woke” entitlement and stupid does not even cover it.

The Stranger

Yeah, think about how dumb the average person is. Then remember that half of the population is even dumber.

Just An Old Dog

Jordan Peterson made an interesting point in that the US Military will not accept anyone with an 83 or lower, as they consider that to be a point where a person couldn’t perform ANY type of work or duty.
Roughly 10% of the US population is below that. So roughly 1 in 10 adults cannot do the simplest of jobs with any type of consistent efficiency.

My dad always said “suffer fools gladly”.

Those kinds of turds are a large part of the reason I fled the GS world after 3-4 years.

When you have employees who can’t/won’t be fired eventually they will start to act like it.

Only Army Mom

I’ve been developing a seminar for those who want to with with military, veteran and LE clients. Slide 1 is all about language, meaning, if you tend to clutch your pearls or blush, pick another client community.

I’ve thought of using some of the comments here as an example. But, I probably wouldn’t be able to sanitize them enough to pass the University censors and maintain a viable example…just one of the reasons I adore the TAH cast of characters.

KoB

OAM, we are so very proud to serve as bad examples!

Graybeard

Just point them to the World Famous Hemisphere of Insults and say: “If you cannot deal with this, don’t bother trying.”

Of course, trying to help Airborne son with AKO logon yesterday had me using some of my decidedly not-Sunday-School language. Under my breath as Favorite 2nd D-i-L was in the room.

Only Army Mom

When the time comes, I will humbly refer to the Hemisphere of Insults, with explicit permission, of course. It will be a short class that day as laughing that hard is as physically exhausting as a stint in the gym.

timactual

And just like that stint in the gym, I don’t get enough of that laughter.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman Grammar Nazi

I still say that the name needs to be changed to “Globe of Insults”. It’s gotten too large for just a Hemisphere.

Hooah! 🙂

Ex-PH2

Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, but if you do not have enough working brain cells to acquire a vocabulary that is deep, colorful and profound without the use of obscenities and slang, you ain’t real bright to begin with.
Examples might be as follows:
Latin: Cum ego occurrit canes melius quam Imago animi tua
Eng: I have met dogs with better character traits than even one of yours.
Latin: Infectum pannus ad a persona in vobis
Eng: You have the personality traits of a wet rag.

HOWEVER….. And I use that word loosely: there may arise the occasional need to get the attention of those asleep on their feet, so I bow to the (very imaginary creation on my part) advices of wisdom of GySGT Millard Rzezckowski, USFMC, as outline below:

Behold, the field in which I grow my fucks! Cast thine eyes upon it, and see that it is barren!

This is the first lesson. The second is like unto it, as follows:

Thou shalt not wander into my field of fucks, lest thou shouldst be mistaken for lunch. Whereupon, should I mistake thee for my lunch, thou art indeed the shingle for shit on a shingle.

The third and final lesson doth follow.

Thou shalt keep thy booger hook off the bang switch at all times if thou dost wish to live past the end of the day. Shouldst thou put thy booger hook on the bang switch, thou shouldst likewise endeavor to ensure that the target is the Enemy, and aim properly.

Here endeth the lesson for today.

Nota bene: there were no sniveling noises at the end of his speech, however there were a few giggling and snorting sounds.

USMC Steve

Ex, you have to remember who you are talking to when using such high faluting speech. If they are stupid, ignorant, or liberal, and you don’t put the dressing down at a level they will understand, all you are doing is wasting your time.

Smitty

When my old 1SG retired, he sold cars for a local Ford dealer. We all wondered how he managed to avoid the coarse language which he used on us. Then he made TV commercials for the car dealer. We laughed and wondered how many takes it took to clean up those commercials.

Green Thumb

I am an artist and profanity is my canvas.

Hack Stone

Can you check Al Gore’s Amazing Internet to see if any other if any of those commercials are available for viewing? Hack loves those low budget regional commercials, they’ll put anyone with $400 on the air. Back in the mid 1980’s, the Jacksonville NC (Camp Lejeune) channels would air a commercial for an old fat white guy “rapping” about selling furniture and camper shells on the wrong side of the tracks.

Mike B USAF Retired

My language cleanup came about due to having to do so many “Dog and Pony” shows.

Dealing with congressional leaders and their aids, local government, teachers, students, foreign dignitaries, multi star Generals.

Plus aircrew refresher training (Water, combat, land survival, parachute/bailout/ejection training, NVG and survival equipment training, aircrew chemical warfare equipment and decontamination training).

Got my ass called on the carpet and a formal complaint filed against me by one of our EWOs (Electronic Warfare Officers). Everyone affectionately referred to them as SHE-WOs, and I had used the term myself during training. Until one EWO got butt hurt.

The individual wrote a nasty comment about it on the critique and had called the Commander during a break.

My boss and the Commander squashed the complaint. I made a written and oral apology to the individual, then to the squadron during Commanders Call.

The Os and Es during the CC wanted to know who cried about it. I didn’t tell them, and the Commander said it wasn’t important. They figured it out and made his life rough, even his fellow EWOs ragged on him.

From that day forward if an aircrew member made an inappropriate remark, I was required to leave the class and notify my NCOIC, who would ask the crew dog out and address it. Instead I basically would tell them, not in my class, and leave it at that.

Did have a female civilian during a virtual reality parachute trainer briefing, get one over me. When I asked for a volunteer, she popped off with “If it involves straps, a harness and you, I’m your girl…..”

Caught me off-guard to say the least, and made my day…..!
