Oh, what a tangled web they wove….
I was holding this back for a little bit, partly because when I watched it the first time I laughed myself into hiccups. (I got better!)
But here it is: Poland, Germany, the UK, and other members of the EU and many, many other foreign nations such as Uganda, and India are dropping or censuring Twitter and Facebook for blocking Trump from using them as a means of communicating with a large audience. The video is below. It is mostly stills with captions. Enjoy it at your leisure, and remember that Twitter’s value as a business entity has dropped rapidly in the past few days.
If this childish behavior referred to as cancel culture can block people or bury them in the wall, then they are no longer in business to serve the public, and other entities/companies will fill the needs of those people that the brats just plain don’t like. Enjoy.

The big issue is that liberals are free to be liberals, they can say and do whatever they want, while conservatives are under a constant threat of losing they livelihood due to the political persecution unleashed by the liberals.
Except the libs are forever moving the goalposts of what is acceptable speech. Something said today will offend in short order. Whether they take that to be a big deal (Kevin Hart) or whether they ignore it (James Gunn) is the question.
This is another one of those rare moments where we agree, at least in some part. I have a friend in IT who needed to change a bunch of documentation because the ‘master/slave’ designation is common in cables, and is considered offensive by some. Now, I’m not against people picking new terms, but to think that people who are actually dealing with slavery care one whit about the word, versus the history or current problems with it, is absolutely insane. Another person didn’t like to have to ‘submit’ a job application, as if that use of it suddenly implied they were somehow lesser. If I’m suddenly offended by the color blue, does IBM have to change their logo?
With that said, I don’t think Twitter should be required to grant people access to their platform, especially if they violate their terms of service. They’ve been banning people for that for a long time; Trump is only one of the latest. Forcing them to do otherwise is a quick recipe for disaster. In fact, if Parler tries to guarantee that, they’ll be out of business fast – people will just upload videos all day. That takes manpower to take down if they’re copyrighted and infrastructure to host, even if they’re not.
LC, if you’re offended by the color blue, stay indoors and do not look at the sky. It is blue 98% of the time. It can also be gray, green, red, yellow, orange, and at times, white or black with little sparkly things in it.
It is a sad, sad day – and you make a good point – that there are people who think theymselves more important than anyone else and can object to “whatever” without repercussions.

LC, it is not that Twitter doesn’t have the right to enforce their terms of service–it is the hypocritical and clearly unfair manner in which they do so, based undeniably on political views.
That kind of discrimination flies in the face of fair business practices and American tradition.
And you are too intelligent not to see that–unless you are being deliberately and disingenuously obtuse.
We can both agree that more conservatives are banned than liberals on Twitter, but we disagree on the root cause. You assume it’s largely their politics, and I think its largely their actions. The evidence to that is the huge number of conservatives on Twitter who aren’t banned because they follow the rules. And the liberals who have been banned for breaking them.
Now, Twitter is hardly perfect, so they don’t get it all right, but that’s the high-level difference. Add to that the fact that the terms of use, and the people evaluating violations, tend to be younger and tech-savvy, and thus more liberal, and it isn’t too surprising that perhaps the interpretation of what constitutes a violation skews a bit left, too.
Taken together, I think that explains things. There’s no witch-hunt for conservatives; they just push the boundaries of what’s acceptable more, and get ruled against more often when doing so. And no, I don’t think that’s deliberately or disingenuously obtuse, either.
Master/Slave in the IT community should be updated to something less offensive and reflective of modern society. May Hack Stone propose NBA Player/Athletic Merchandise Sweatshop Worker?
Master slave is also a term in hydraulic systems. The farmers I deal with could give a crap about other meanings other than making their tractor work.

There are dire consequences for a private company that crosses the Left, but conservatives get walked over every day and nothing happens.
This has shaped the market, with private enterprises willing to go out of their way to satisfy the Left, while conservatives have lost most of the corporate support, with only small businesses remaining on the right.
It is cheaper for Corporate America to submit to the pressures from the Left than to resist. And while doing that corporations get favorable regulations that keep the competition artificially at bay.
Every successful corporation is an enemy of the free market, and will do its utmost to regulate the competition out of business.
