News From the Last Day Of…. Something

| January 19, 2021

Oh, what a tangled web they wove….

I was holding this back for a little bit, partly because when I watched it the first time I laughed myself into hiccups. (I got better!)

But here it is: Poland, Germany, the UK, and other members of the EU and many, many other foreign nations such as Uganda, and India are dropping or censuring Twitter and Facebook for blocking Trump from using them as a means of communicating with a large audience. The video is below. It is mostly stills with captions. Enjoy it at your leisure, and remember that Twitter’s value as a business entity has dropped rapidly in the past few days.

If this childish behavior referred to as cancel culture can block people or bury them in the wall, then they are no longer in business to serve the public, and other entities/companies will fill the needs of those people that the brats just plain don’t like.  Enjoy.

  1. Slow Joe says:

    Drop Twitter.

    Go with Parler.

    (Oh, wait a minute…)

    • ChipNASA says:

      Wait. For. It…..

    • thebesig says:

Go on Gab (gab.com). I also post there, it’s nothing like what the leftists try to describe it as.

      • ChipNASA says:

I just resigned up because I used an old e-mail and deleted it because I signed up for gab before I knew what it was and now I had to generate a new e-mail to resign up because once you delete an e-mail from them, it’s blocked forever.
        ANYWAY, I’m on Gab

  2. ChipNASA says:

    Fuck.
    Them.
They. Are. Going. (are currently paying) To. Pay.

I am laughing at Big Tech. Not going to last.
AT&T, Ma Bell. YES, it has rebounded greatly now as like 3 or 4 or 5 telecoms BUT, it’s taken “decades”.
Parler *WILL* return and it’s going to be taken a HUGE hit when it opens again.
    I hope they’re ready.

  3. Slow Joe says:

The big issue is that liberals are free to be liberals, they can say and do whatever they want, while conservatives are under a constant threat of losing they livelihood due to the political persecution unleashed by the liberals.

    • Mason says:

Except the libs are forever moving the goalposts of what is acceptable speech. Something said today will offend in short order. Whether they take that to be a big deal (Kevin Hart) or whether they ignore it (James Gunn) is the question.

      • LC says:

This is another one of those rare moments where we agree, at least in some part. I have a friend in IT who needed to change a bunch of documentation because the ‘master/slave’ designation is common in cables, and is considered offensive by some. Now, I’m not against people picking new terms, but to think that people who are actually dealing with slavery care one whit about the word, versus the history or current problems with it, is absolutely insane. Another person didn’t like to have to ‘submit’ a job application, as if that use of it suddenly implied they were somehow lesser. If I’m suddenly offended by the color blue, does IBM have to change their logo?

With that said, I don’t think Twitter should be required to grant people access to their platform, especially if they violate their terms of service. They’ve been banning people for that for a long time; Trump is only one of the latest. There’s a list of notable ones (not all, just notable ones) here – including, among others, terrorists, an Antifa account, people posting PII, etc:

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter_suspensions

Forcing them to do otherwise is a quick recipe for disaster. In fact, if Parler tries to guarantee that, they’ll be out of business fast – people will just upload videos all day. That takes manpower to take down if they’re copyrighted and infrastructure to host, even if they’re not.

        • Ex-PH2 says:

LC, if you’re offended by the color blue, stay indoors and do not look at the sky. It is blue 98% of the time. It can also be gray, green, red, yellow, orange, and at times, white or black with little sparkly things in it.

It is a sad, sad day – and you make a good point – that there are people who think theymselves more important than anyone else and can object to “whatever” without repercussions.

        • Poetrooper says:

LC, it is not that Twitter doesn’t have the right to enforce their terms of service–it is the hypocritical and clearly unfair manner in which they do so, based undeniably on political views.
That kind of discrimination flies in the face of fair business practices and American tradition.

And you are too intelligent not to see that–unless you are being deliberately and disingenuously obtuse.

          • LC says:

We can both agree that more conservatives are banned than liberals on Twitter, but we disagree on the root cause. You assume it’s largely their politics, and I think its largely their actions. The evidence to that is the huge number of conservatives on Twitter who aren’t banned because they follow the rules. And the liberals who have been banned for breaking them.

Now, Twitter is hardly perfect, so they don’t get it all right, but that’s the high-level difference. Add to that the fact that the terms of use, and the people evaluating violations, tend to be younger and tech-savvy, and thus more liberal, and it isn’t too surprising that perhaps the interpretation of what constitutes a violation skews a bit left, too.

Taken together, I think that explains things. There’s no witch-hunt for conservatives; they just push the boundaries of what’s acceptable more, and get ruled against more often when doing so. And no, I don’t think that’s deliberately or disingenuously obtuse, either.

        • Hack Stone says:

Master/Slave in the IT community should be updated to something less offensive and reflective of modern society. May Hack Stone propose NBA Player/Athletic Merchandise Sweatshop Worker?

          • SgtM says:

Master slave is also a term in hydraulic systems. The farmers I deal with could give a crap about other meanings other than making their tractor work.

          • LC says:

I can’t wait to hear your suggestion for male/female connectors! Maybe we can get you a job in the Biden administration at NIST to come up with new standard terms.

  4. Slow Joe says:

There are dire consequences for a private company that crosses the Left, but conservatives get walked over every day and nothing happens.

This has shaped the market, with private enterprises willing to go out of their way to satisfy the Left, while conservatives have lost most of the corporate support, with only small businesses remaining on the right.

It is cheaper for Corporate America to submit to the pressures from the Left than to resist. And while doing that corporations get favorable regulations that keep the competition artificially at bay.

Every successful corporation is an enemy of the free market, and will do its utmost to regulate the competition out of business.

Just a few observations about how we got here.

  5. Slow Joe says:

A bunch of people have downloaded Parlor instead of Parler.

Parlor is some leftist crap out of New York.

OK OK WTF JUST HAPPENED!!! Is this doctored??
OAN just broadcast this a little while ago…

“Joe Biden is in Federal Custody until a hearing Friday??”

    • ChipNASA says:

A comment is that this was an overlap from another story that was badly edited….JESUS PEOPLE!!!!!!
      Really??
      This whole thing is scary.
You’re going to give some of us a heart attack.

  8. OldManchu says:

    Lars heart Twitter

    • Commie-Tsar says:

I luvs me some Jackie!!! He’s my bestest buddy in the whole wide world!!

I wonder if I can get some tips from my BFF to start censoring this blog? It’s one of my empirically derived duties as this blog’s officially unofficial antisocial socialist!

  9. NewsMax was saying that cnn is trying to shut them down and a cnn contributer was saying that ATT, Verizon, Comcast shouldn’t be allowed to send Conservative cable news stations into peoples homes. ATT owns cnn, and NewsMax is a fast growing news outlet since fox went south and running scared.

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

Isn’t it weird how the Left shreiks “Fascism! Fascism!”,

then shreiks the need for some sort of “Security service”, a secret state police, and “separating” opponents.

      Loudly.

  10. OWB says:

Some interesting factoids about the tweetter company: https://www.omnicoreagency.com/twitter-statistics/

No opinion of the validity of this info, just that it is interesting. It does not agree with what I thought I heard recently about US customers being a relatively small percentage of their total business though. Found this while searching for the other info.

Do with it what you will.

    • Poetrooper says:

“Do with it what you will.”

Donald Trump certainly did and to ol’ Poe’s way of thinking it was detrimental to his political future, as many older Americans, unaccustomed to social media and who usually vote conservative, believed it made him seem immature, undignified and unpresidential, especially when he used it to attack individuals.

His Twitter excesses may well have prevented him from getting the necessary margin to overcome Democrat fraud.

      • KoB says:

Ol’ Poe this Gun Bunny got to agree with you. After locking the Bitch of Benghazi DasHilterlyBeast, FIRST (ht 2 TX Norsky) thing Trump shoulda done was put down that damn phone. The demonrats would have had to steal twice as many votes as they did to win then.

This “cancel culture as they are calling it now, is getting out of hand. Lady Friend made mention that Kohls and Bed, Bath, and Beyond dropped the My Pillow Brand because of Homeboy’s support of Trump. She won’t be buying from them anymore. Kinda stupid to go and potentially piss off 70 some odd million customers. Amazon is next.

    • SFC D says:

And after the Trump loyalists are gone, we go after the Obama loyalists, then the Biden loyalists…

      • Slow Joe says:

It always goes that way. Look at what happened to Sergei Kirov, Leon Trotsky and Lavrenty Beria.

The Revolution always eats it’s own. Those fools supporting the radical Left think they will get a piece of the pie. The forget the Revolution destroys the pie, and the glorious leaders do not share power.

  12. Slow Joe says:

The President Select Joe Bin Biden will take power tomorrow.

Any bets on how long until Vices’ President Kamaleon Heels-Up Harris takes over?

Congress Demands Investigation Into University Of Notre Dame For Incitement.

Members of Congress are calling for an investigation into the University of Notre Dame, claiming the school is a hot bed for incitement of violence and insurrection.

“We have no idea what this is about,” said Father Charles “Chuck” O’Malley. “This accusation came as a total surprise to us.”
