Mid-Month Econ Report

| January 15, 2021

This is yer Friday heads up, ahead of the weekend.

Joe Biden has announced that he will be promulgating his stimulus plan, which includes $1400 checks to supplement the $600 checks that went out in December or January or Saturnalia, or whatever. The full package total comes to $1.9 trillion, instead of the near-impossible $4 trillions he had originally proposed last week.

However, AOC has a problem with it: she “thinks” (huh?) the stimulus checks should be larger, as in $2,000. Apparently, simple arithmetic – meaning Joe’s $1,400 offer to make up the difference between $600 in December and Trump’s proposal for $2,000 – is beyond her. And she has a degree in economics, or something, so she’s got that going for her, right? Right?

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/14/biden-wants-to-raise-stimulus-checks-to-2000-how-payments-will-work.html

What Biden proposes is generous, indeed, but no one is looking further than next Thorstag, which is the day before Frejastag, and yes, it will help a lot of people who are literally hurtin’ for certain since the shutdown started last year.  The problem is that not one of those clowndog Democrats in WDC thinks any further ahead than next month or maybe two months ahead, max. The rest of us, whether we run businesses or not, have to look further ahead than the next six weeks.

We’re in a recession, which is not lightening anyone’s load right now. It will be prolonged, and likely become more painful over the next three years, so just where is this money to come from if 6.7% of taxpayers are out of work and there are no taxes to be had from them? Unemployment is now at 6.7% nationwide. The unemployment rates vary from state to state, which you can check on here:  https://www.bls.gov/web/laus/lauhsthl.html

If you recall what I said last week about retail chains closing their doors or reducing their outlet numbers, partly due to online shopping which is a throwback to the printed catalog shopping from bygone days, that does have a good deal to do with it. It’s not that people are not working, but has more to do with places like restaurants closing their doors for good because of dining restrictions.

So I give it 18 more months of this decline before the reality of it sinks in. Maybe Nancy and AOC could get together and do what Mickey and Judy used to do: have a barn dance and save the town.

I’m adding the following link to a news alert on retail sales, which fell 0.7% in December, instead of flatlining as had been expected. There is no text connected to it yet, but it will show up shortly. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/15/us-retail-sales-december-2020.html

Friday is the day when the counting houses count the coins and then file reports. There is more to this coming down the road, so keep an eye out for it. Also, there are people who have Bitcoin accounts, but so seldom used their passwords that they can’t remember them now, and can’t get into those accounts any more and Bitcoin’s encrypting system has no sympathy for them. It makes sense, then, to keep a written record of such things in some safe place, like a little pocketbook of phone numbers used to be something you could carry with you, doesn’t it?

There’s more to come in re: the economy. This recession is going to be prolonged and difficult, and handing out cash money will help some people, but the real goal needs to be to get people back to work. I know that there are people who find it to be an opportunity to try their wings at financial independence by starting a small business online. I’m glad the weekend is here. It means we are one week closer to Spring.

Yeah, but what they are masking is the relief for cities that were run into the ground by Democratic governance.

They are pushing the $1400 in the news to mask over the fact that there is a lot of bail out money for poorly run cities.

So – we go into debt to help those cities go further into debt due to mismanagement.

Only in America.

Mike Gunns

Yeah, I believe I read that Cuomo of NFY wants a 15 billion dollar bailout. That would be in addition to any other federal monies for Covid relief.

Ahh, the scent of money. On a related note AP reports Thursday hundreds of Hondurans attempting to form a caravan to the United States was stopped by Honduran security personnel before they reached the border to Guatemala.

Tanks, Ex. I was a’fixin’ to send Mason a Fox linky to this same subject, but this one works very well too. The individual “stimulus” checks are a drop in the bucket to what all this porker has in it. Would be nice to see a line item by line item of where it is all going, but, again, “We’ll have to pass this bill to see what is in it.” Pay particular attention to the doubling of the minimum wage provision and the major increase in the “Earned Income Tax Credit” give away. There was an article the other night from someone complaining that the 11 BILLION that was earmarked for the “Arts Performers” in Vermont(?) and other NE States was not enough to keep “quality performers” in the area or the entertainment field. Guess the 25 millions for the Kennedy Center was a drop in the bucket for that one too.

I noticed when I was choppin’ up my turnips for the traditional Southern New Year’s Day meal that there was NO blood in those turnip roots. Maybe I needed to send them to Sniff, Blow, and Also Old Cotex to show me how you get “blood out of a turnip.”

I restocked up to a 90 supply of essential meds the other day. Looking at different designs for rabbit and squirrel traps as we speak. When it all falls apart, I think I will miss ice cream most of all. Maybe the FIRST raid we make on the elites should be SanFranNanPigulosi’s freezerators.

One more week closer to Spring.
GOT-Damn right Ex-PH2.
I bought a 10 lb bag of all-season wildflower seed for the side of the house. Dumped the whole damn thing down in November and Damn if those hearty little bitches aren’t trying to sprout already.
GIT SUM!!!
One garden is going fallow this year and the other is going to have ‘maters and stuff.

I wish I could grow bullets. (Yeah, I’m not loading my own. Thanks)

Saw an article somewhere, maybe the Wall Street Urinal that 42% of the workforce now works from home. Forty… effing… two… percent. That says forty effing two percent of the workforce is actually employed, has no commuting or wardrobe expense, eats from the fridge instead of the local watering hole which is closed anyway, and as stated in another article, is socking money away.

Why in the 9 circles of heck do these people, or retirees like me who have enough income for that matter, need another 1400 or 2000 dollars? Whadahell, let’s give everyone 100 grand, and be done with it. No one will have to work for the rest of the year. Good times will roll.

There is an IQ test to be elected to Congress I think. Anyone over 50 is disqualified.

George V

Ex,
I see your point about a new roof, or maybe someone needs other things like a furnace or a new used car. That can be a budget breaker to many folks.

I do understand the people that are employed at the lower pay scales or lost hours could use the money in these times and I don’t begrudge them of it.

What frosts my attitude are the fairly well off middle to upper income folks who have not lost a dime since last March and could easily afford a furnace by cutting back on a few things. I just don’t think those folks need a handout at the cost to the national debt.

And that opinion plus 59 cents get a senior coffee at McDonald’s. If you have the patience to wait for the 20 cars ahead of you in the drivethu.

Now I’ve posted this before and that sounds like fancy ammo, but maybe I’m wrong but that sounds like $1.20 a round *before* shipping and tax and stuff… I jut snagged 500 rounds of Frontier Cartridge Military Grade Ammunition 5.56x45mm NATO 62 Grain Hornady Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail @ $359.99 + Shipping Total, $15.50 + Tax $21.60 for a Total $397.09 so call it 398, so about $.80 a round. still VERY high related to “old” normal prices, back in the day (6-12 months ago? I have no idea, I wasn’t in the game then) SO, anyone that’s looking, check this out. I hate to add competition to myself but, I love you guys and gals and I hate to see you pay extra premium unless you want to. https://ammoseek.com/ SO, this is currently what I’m tracking and I set the price point a little lower and get an e-mail alert when the price drops and I try to jump in and grab some if it’s the kind I want and if I can afford the lot amount. Jan 15, @ 2:15 pm 223 Remington [new only] [brass case only] 0.887 per round (my alert is set at 0.6) 22LR [new only] [brass case only] current at 0.234 per round my alert is at 0.11 5.56x45mm NATO, exclude(Green tip) [new only] [brass case only] currently at 0.895 my alert is at 0.69 and then 9mm Luger [new only] [brass case only] currently at 0.695 my alert is at 0.4 (really low) I just paid $.77 the other day after S&H and Tax so, it’s dropped a little bit. You *HAVE* to look at the Shipping and Handling column and see the little Shipping Estimation Details graph and you can see if the particular retailer has a High or Low shipping and Handing cost because some charge high charges to gouge you and make up the low per round charges there. I’ve seen some low PPR counts and then I’ve dropped orders in the shopping carts because of *outrageous* S&H costs. Other times, I’ve gotten lucky and S&H and Taxes… Read more »

Chip, to mind boggle you even more, here’s another site to set your sights on (was that a double entendre??) (grin)

Just a thought, you might want to save your expended brass. Sometime in the future you might pick up a good re-loader set and load your own. If not, there is always a market for once fired cases in the popular calibers…especially now.

Gropey Joe and the Ho will soon be sponsoring legislation barring the interstate sale of ammunition, so it is a good thing you are stocking up now. Commiefornia has already made it very difficult to import ammo from other states. They have also attempted to put a five cent tax on every round of ammo, essentially tripling the price of a box of .22 long rifle.

Out here in Red State ‘Merica, even all the dusty shelf-filler shotgun ammo and cheap uncool civilian-only guns are pretty much gone… despite much increased gun and ammo production.

If it goes “bang,” it’s bought and stashed. Poof, like it evaporated. (Prepping? Y’all do the Math… )

The Other Whitey

California is hiking up state taxes again, everything is rapidly getting more expensive, and the pay raise we were promised is officially cancelled. I swore I would never live in a tract house, nor would I ever live below 3,000 feet ASL, but I can’t afford to live in this goatfuck of a state anymore. My wife is looking at listings in Yuma as I type this.

I really don’t want to live down there, but my salary will go three or four times as far there as it does here. I can register my truck for five years at half the cost of a single year’s reg in California. Insurance, utilities, property taxes, and gas are drastically more affordable. And I can buy 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and a 3-car garage and still have $150k leftover from the sale of my current place.

Unless God Himself decides to square away California via divine miracle in the next few months (ideally with Gavin Newsom getting the same accommodation Vlad Tepes provided for his Turkish houseguests), there is no other option. My biggest fear is that the same idiots who ruined California will follow me there and wreak the same ruin. Never mind the buttfuckery Kammy Whorris will force upon us all via her puppet Rapey Joe.

As soon as the $600 hit the mailbox the drug surge crime wave took off. Every Crack hotel in the city was full. But it’s easy to burn through $600 in weekend. Give them another $1400. We can see the jump in overdoses and shootings as well.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH B Woodman

Sounds like a win-win. Stimulates the economy (especially the funeral trade), and gets rid of a few more unavoidably addicted.

The undertakers around here need no help at all. I spoke to one during a funeral this week. He has storage for three bodies and currently has 21 on hand. They have the bodies stored in a cool garage on top of packing crates till they can get them in the ground. They are running wide open.

rgr769

Ex, if you think it is going to be bad now, wait until about two million illegals hit our infirm economy, filling every low wage job where they get paid under the table. Plus, Gropey Joe wants to import more foreign workers to keep Silicon Valley mega-corps happy with low wages for tech workers.

We are going to be in a recession for the next four years. Most of the sheeple won’t know it because after Congress creates its de facto Ministry of Truth, no own will hear about the reality of the economy.
