Grits? Here’s what you need for good grits:

Here is everything you need to make the Creamiest Cheese Grits ever:

Milk – Whole milk is best for creating the creamiest grits.
Water – Or stock for making savory dinner grits.
Corn grits – You want old fashioned grits with cornmeal, not those instant grits. White corn grits are traditional in the south.
Seasonings – Salt, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika.
Butter – Adds wonderful flavor and creaminess.
Cheddar cheese – Or your preferred cheese.

KoB

AAHEEMM!?!? Where’s the shrimps? And bacon pieces? A certain Aereonautically Designated Squidley Swabbie has posted an outstanding recipe on Monday’s Recipes Thread for Cheesy Grits with Shrimps that would go well this afternoon. ‘Specially since the Earner of the Coveted FIRST (EARNED NEVER AWARDED) on the Friday TAH Weekend Open Thread for today has not offered up any snacks or libations for his (dis)loyal miscreanted d’weeded subjects.

Everything is better when you add bacon.

Bacon: *Puts brass knuckles on and beats the shit out of avocado *

Ex-PH2

Ahem: Shrimp and bacon pieces are optional, according to personal taste. My list above is the basic ingredients list for cheesy grits.
If you want to add shrimp, bacon, chopped ham, chopped anything else, it is a personal choice. 🙂

Roger that Mi’Lady. I wuz just a’figurin’ since he said he was goin’ to the store anyhow…

Graybeard

Whelp, in the GB household, Mrs. GB appears to be content with the grits I cook for her 3 days a week:

(Makes a bowl each for Mrs. GB and me)

4 rounded tsp Jim Dandy white grits
1 slice of ham, diced
1 c water
1 egg (optional)
shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Boil ham and water, add grits while stirring, reducing heat and stirring for 1 minute. Cover and let set.

In a cast iron frying pan, warm up oil/grease/ lard and, with fire on very low, cook 1 egg until white is done, yolk is still runny.

Dip out cooked grits into bowl (or onto plate) sprinkle shredded cheese and/or place egg on top.

Say grace and dig in.

Mrs. GB does not like the egg on her grits, so I add a pat of butter to hers. I mix my egg & ham and grits together so the yolk is spread throughout.

A side of sausage or bacon is welcome – but to keep my old ticker ticking, I’ve had to give that up.

Sarge, Congratulations! If I possessed your internet skills. I could get a Covid shot.

Our county uses a website for scheduling appointments for the Covid vaccination. The county announces a time for making an online shot reservation on their website. Your career, so your call. However, I’d argue yes for the following reasons:

1. Your records are incomplete without it. Someone researching your career later (say, for a family history/book/obit) would have the full story.
2. Documentation of the award would be in multiple places. Personal records do on occasion get lost or destroyed.
3. Retirees can end up back on AD under some circumstances, and that would be one less hassle in the event you did end up back on AD.

If there are any other awards missing (say, a KDSM that you rate but which was for some reason never entered into your official records), IMO getting those added to your records worth doing also. In addition to the above reasons, one of those might qualify you for either Veteran’s Preference or VSO membership if you’re not otherwise already eligible (which I’d guess you probably already are if you’re a recent retiree).

Minor point: if you go this route, you probably won’t actually get a revised DD214. Instead you’ll almost certainly get a DD215, which is used to amend or correct an existing DD214.

I had multiple periods of AD during my career (several years of service on Active Duty followed by service in the reserves until retirement). Over half of my DD214s ended up later being amended or corrected by a corresponding DD215.

By Commissioner Wretched There are two ways to look at January, you know. One is, you can look on it as the first full month of winter, with cold weather, the chance for snow and ice, and generally gray days. Or, you can look on it as bright, cheerful, a new start to a new year, the prospect of spring coming soon, and … Yeah, I know which one I choose. The best part about any month is, I get to offer you some new trivia, freshly dug up and ready to present! Among the gremlins that can get you during a game of golf are: lightning, power lines, heart attack, heat stroke, and the occasional freak injury. For example, in one instance, a golfer was so angry about missing a shot that he swung his club at his caddy, killing the poor man; in another, a player enraged by a poor shot broke his club against a tree, and the part that snapped off rebounded and impaled him. Hank Aaron, our FAVORITE Baseball player, received the COVID 19 Vaccination on 5 January 2021:

https://www.mlb.com/news/hank-aaron-covid-19-vaccination

🤔

Hondo

Ah, Eddie Gaedel – courtesy of Bill Veeck, showman par excellence!

But in all seriousness: that was nowhere near Veeck’s finest moment; showmanship was far from being Veeck’s only interest or skill. As owner of the Cleveland Indians, he was responsible for signing a player named Larry Doby in 1947 and getting him onto the field. That was Veeck’s finest moment.

Doby is now in the Hall of Fame, but that’s not why his signing was Veeck’s finest moment.

Doby was the first player to go directly from the Negro Leagues to MLB. His signing broke the “color barrier” in the American League.

Commissioner Wretched

Doby’s signing remains the best thing Veeck ever did, but the Gaedel story (and Disco Destruction at Comiskey Park) are far and away the wackiest.

Gotta love Bill Veeck. (And this is coming from a Cubs fan!)

I say fuck all the left wing media scum. None of those cucks and cunts never spent a day in a U.S. military uniform, let alone ever served in a combat zone.

MarineDad61

rgr769,
It’s more than that.
It appears Cotton claimed Phony Army Ranger
to get elected to Congress in 2012.
He apparently got tipped off that
he’ll get busted (and outed) for lying,
and so, by 2014, he wasn’t claiming this anymore.

Stopping Stolen Valor (voluntarily) is good.
Telling the truth and apologizing is better.
His spokesperson handled this poorly,
like a classic phony denier.
And so, there will be more to this.

Cotton, meet super phony Blumenthal.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Maybe the two of them can get together and form the “Stolen Valor Congressional Caucus”. Their “secret handshake can be the dutch rudder…

rgr769

Well, you show me where Cotton said he served in the 75th infantry. After Ranger school, I considered myself a “Ranger.” I wore a tab that said so two years before I fortuitously ended up in a LRRP company designated “Ranger.”

MarineDad61

Sapper3307,
Cotton called out by Army Ranger Congressman.
https://www.businessinsider.com/tom-cotton-ranger-military-service-jason-crow-2021-1

rgr769

I’ll just consider the source: a vile D-rat politician and Progda Salon.

MarineDad61

rgr769,
Are you giving a pass on embellishing military service for gain,
to win an election,
because of partisan politics,
and the party of the offender?
So it’s bad for members of 1 party to do it,
but somehow ok for the other?

rgr769

So, by your definition, everyone who belongs to the Army Ranger Assn. but didn’t serve in a 75th Inf. unit is an embellisher. I guess in 1969 and ’70, I was one too. By the way, have you served in the military?

Well, it looks like you have an agenda on this. I might add I looked up the source for this, Jason Crow. And, IMHO, his motivation is strictly political.

Show me where Cotton personally claimed he served in the 75th Ranger Regiment.

MarineDad61

rgr769,
I have no political agenda here.
My agenda here has ALWAYS been
military phonies and Stolen Valor.
And when it comes to politicians and candidates
using it for their personal and political gain,
I have done what everyone should do,
treat them all EQUALLY.
Seek the truth, and condemn the lies.

For you to question my military service,
or my (apolitical) agenda,
for calling out some serious embellishment,
is really low.
You know it, too.

rgr769

I didn’t question your military service because I don’t know whether you had any, other than some connection to the Marine Corps. I asked because I was wondering whether you have a Ranger tab or ever served in a Ranger unit. If you have experienced neither, then I think I am a little better qualified than you to judge who is lying or embellishing about his military service insofar as “Ranger” is concerned.

Tom Cotton is not a “military phony” nor a “phony Army Ranger” as you put in caps on one of your other posts.

Got Ranger tab? Ever worn the scroll? Even got CIB? I think not. Tom Cotton has two out of those three and never claimed the third (anyway according to Wikipedia; and I am certain their lefty googlegeeks would be working overtime to find one).

I usually enjoy reading your comments and links because they are mostly accurate, but not when you just amplify false lefty talking points by the Progda, and you expect no blow back.

Finally, there is no evidence Tom Cotton is a miltary phony; and he has never stolen valor from anyone. In fact, he has more decorations that Jason Crow. And he joined the Army as enlisted and became an OCS commissioned infantry officer, after he was making the bucks as a lawyer, not before, as in the case of Crow.

OWB

Nobody gets a pass from us.

Best scenario is to never make false claims. Never, ever. Yes, it is sometimes easy for others to misinterpret stuff, but to avoid that it is better to just not put out things which can be misinterpreted. (Like those of us who served during Vietnam but did not serve in Vietnam.)

It is nearly impossible to reverse a false claim once made. So just don’t do it.

If you will lie about something so easily verified, it can only bring into question every other thing one says or does. Forever.

MarineDad61

OWB,
Bingo!

Ret_25X

I like the “anyone can attend” comment.

No, Salon, it doesn’t work that way. Almost the entire Army is in a category of “no slots for you”.

Even in the infantry, a mechanized soldier at Fort Hood has a better shot at Yale enrollment than Ranger School.

We’ve discussed tabbed vs Ranger Battalion here before, but my own take is that graduating from the school makes you a Ranger. Being in the Battalion makes a Ranger as well, but the Tab is the Tab.

As for Tom Cotton, if he embellished, let’s call him out. But if this is just partisan hit pieces by those who wouldn’t piss on a veteran, let alone ever serve themselves, then they can piss off.

rgr769

According to Wikipedia, which is influenced if not controlled by the left, Cotton never claimed he served in a 75th Infantry Regiment Ranger unit. He claims he is an Army Ranger by virtue of the school and the tab (he has one). I don’t call that embellishment.

I might add that there are clerks and support personnel in the Ranger regiment that are considered “Rangers” and they will never make it to Ranger school nor hear a shot fired in anger. Also most of the men who served in the LRRP companies in the RVN are considered “rangers” by the 75th Ranger Regiment Assn. They did not attend Ranger school; and men like my supply/motor sergeant didn’t even attend a recondo course. Cotton is more of a Ranger than they are. Two officers (1LTs) joined my Ranger company; neither had been to Ranger School nor the recondo course in Vietnam. Although, they did come to me from CCN. Well, according to the the 75th Ranger Regiment Assn., they are all Rangers and entitled to join. I might add they would all be ineligible to belong to the Army Ranger Assn. because they are not tabbed.

I think you should understand who Jason Crow is who started this. He is a first term congressman lawer who advocates for all forms of gun control; he wants to ban “assault weapons.” He is a supporter of late term abortions; he supports impeaching trump. San Fran Nan selected him as one of the house impeachment managers; he will vote for anything she tells him to. He is likely a supporter of the federal voting bill just introduced which will make this country a one-party (D-rat) oligarchy. You all should read it. In addition to mail-in voting and ballot harvesting, it legalizes voting by 16 year-olds and set the stage to making the DC and U.S. Territories states. The D-rats are about to destroy our representative republic. And we are wasting brain cells talking about semantics of who is and isn’t a “ranger.”

Ret_25X

No “Russian Hacks”..but definitely fraud.

Every election.

In every jurisdiction.

I mean, voter fraud is so commonplace in the elections that it has been a running joke since the 1830s.

As for Presidents, yes, Biden holds the office. But that does not mean we hold any responsibility for his actions. I know that the coastal elite tribe think there can be no legitimate ideas other than their own, but that just makes them idiots, not woke.

After all, in his first two days he took action to prevent insulin price controls and effectively laid off more than 500k workers. He also lied about the immunization plan and had to be corrected by none other than the high priest of COVID, Fauci.

But, that is how the DNC works. The left hates workers and anyone who doesn’t toe their line.
